Good, fun movie. Tom Cruise delivers again. It'd be nice to get a sequal.

just finally caught this

this was a damn fun movie and cruise was awesome also that opening scene was brilliantly shot

jai courtney really impressed me aswell

Ok movie. A little better than you standard action flick. I give it 3/5.

This went from a movie I liked when I saw it theaters to a movie I think is kind of great when I rewatched it recently. Like "top 10 of 2012" great. The direction is tight and clean, the script crackles, Cruise brings it, Werner Herzog (that's all that needs to be said), a great car chase with a great punchline, and a nice sense of morality to top it all off.

so, i kind of liked this movie, but i guess in the end it never really added up to more than the sum of its parts.

the opening is really, really well done. i was kind of blown away by it, to be honest. but then Jack Reacher comes on the scene and, i dunno, it starts to feel like a fairly generic procedural/action flick. a pretty good generic procedural/action flick, but still. things get a good bit more interesting at the end, so i'll give it that. Herzog is a big reason for that. he and most of the supporting cast (particularly Oyelowo and Jenkins) are one of the film's stronger points.

Cruise is okay but, honestly, i don't think they did a great job of handling the character. there are moments where they hint at some complexity and depth and i get the whole philosophical bent on "he's a drifter" is supposed to draw me in...but yeah, either they should have cast a more enigmatic actor in the role or they should have fleshed that part of the story out better. there are points where they're really hammering on that aspect of the character and then it goes by the wayside completely for the other half of the movie so they can just deal with the plot.

i also found the female lead a complete and utter bore and not convincing in the slightest. that really hurt the movie since i didn't care about her character and i didn't buy any of the supposed chemistry with Reacher.

anyways, i was impressed with how McQuarrie handled the set-pieces, but not as much with the other stuff that makes up the bulk of the movie. that and mixed returns from Cruise/Reacher and a thumbs down for Rosamund Pike and i'm left feeling like it was a 6 out of 10.

Yea, female lead was overacting at it's finest. Not believable.

Pike gave two absolutely incredible performances in this.

i am befuddled that anyone liked her in this movie.

i dunno, maybe it was more the character.

When do you guys think the sequel is coming out?

We'll see. Cruise is also attached to Mission: Impossible 5 which begins filming in February anyway, El Presidente, and Go Like Hell at the moment.

True. I feel like he might drop out of that.

Anyways, I've been re-watching some scenes from this lately. The bar scene with Sandy is hilarious!

^Thats what I was wondering, last time we heard it wasnt looking too promising, I would love to see one personally.

I don't know. It was a few pages back.

If there is a sequel, then Cruise sure does have a ton of action movies on his upcoming slate.

Cruise has 3 films coming out by 2015. Doesn't look like it and it didn't exactly light up the box office.

IMDB says Van Helsing but it has no date.

To be honest, I can't see Van Helsing coming out any earlier than 2016.
