...I assume. He said he wants to start filming WOLVERINE in the beginning of 2008. You'll remember an earlier interview with Lauren Shuler Donner where she referenced Hugh's opinion, but said that "we're thinking fall [07]". So who knows when production will start.

Q: About a month ago, we spoke last; you said that you might have some news on who you would prefer to direct WOLVERINE…

A: Yeah.

Q: Recently Bryan [Singer] said that he’s been offered to do WOLVERINE and doing some more research I’m hearing that it’s been you hoping to get Bryan to direct, is that accurate?

A: Well the… [Uncomfortable pause, then laughing] the thing is, it’s all in negotiation, I can’t really – there’s a list of, you know, Bryan ’s sort of at the beginning of, so you know of course he’s in the loop. So, it is too early for me to say.

Q: The fact that he’s talking about it, is that kind of…

A: I think it’s great, you know, so we’ll see the way we go. Now we have the script, now we really need to work out who’s the best person for it. You know, Bryan ’s always been in the loop, for us.

Q: Is the plan still to shoot mid-year, next year?

A: No… I meant to finish Baz’s [Luhrmann] movie end of August. My guess is that my… you know, Baz might just go… but who knows. I think we’ll go for beginning of 08. That way, I need to have my idea for Wolverine, I wanna have four months cleared before I start shooting because I wanna be in the shape, the physical shape that I’ve never been before for that movie.

I think that interview took place a couple of weeks ago and it seems like it may have all changed. Check the LSD thread.

i just heard yesterday that there is going to be a new X-MEN called "WOLVERINE"...now im sad its gonna release so late :(

I have listened to, read, and watched so many interviews this week of Hugh promoting "The Fountain" I can't remember where I read or heard this, but someone asked him again about Wolverine, and instead of saying "beginning of '08" he said he expected to start it in "8 or 9 months." I think it was a "live" interview. Now whether that means pre-production starts then or filming does, I don't know, but "8 or 9 months" would coincide with the end of the filming of the Luhrmann movie - which is now has the title "Australia." To me it sounded like filming since I was thinking of what Shuler-Donner said about "fall."

So we have to wait until 2009 for the movie? 2008 sounds right, but oh well.

The earliest Hugh could possibly start filming this movie is either August or September - it depends when the Baz Luhrmann movie he's filming finishes. It starts in March and it's supposed to go for five months but Baz is notorious for going over. So even if Wolverine starts filming in September and takes three months, how long would post-production be and would it be able to get into theaters for summer 2008, which is already getting crowded? Not sure about that. That's why I think 2009 may be a better bet.

Why not Fall of 2008? What movie is Hugh making right now?
Hugh is filming the epic "Australia" co-starring Nicole Kidman and directed by Baz Luhrmann starting in March. It's supposed to be a five-month shoot but Baz is famous for going over, so it will probably end filming in August or September 2007. Hugh said in an interview that he wanted about four months to get ready for "Wolverine" which is why he said January 2008. But then Fox and Lauren Shuler-Donner said they wanted to start in the fall, and in a more recent interview Hugh was asked about "Wolverine" and he said it should start filming "in eight or nine months" so maybe Fox changed his mind! We probably won't know the timing until a director is announced.

Four months to get ready? For what? Hes buff enough.
Who knows what he has to look like to film "Australia" and he lost a lot of the Wolverine muscle when he did his arena tour of "Boy from Oz" over the summer. It took him about four months look like Wolverine in X-3.

If they start shooting January 2008 then i hope that means a Summer 2009 release,i don't want a rush job

Plot Outline: A hard-living superhero (Smith) who has fallen out of favor with the public makes a romantic, life-changing connection with a housewife.

it'll be 2009- each x men movie is 3 years apart anyway. that means it will me wolverine vs superman- can adamantium cut through the man of steel? There may be wonderwoman as well but i think they may hold off on that until 2010- if joss whedon gets off his ass.

Wonder Woman was supposed to come out 2007, but he just doesn't even try to cast people or anything really. TPTB of Smallville wanted Wonder Woman on the show, but due to the movie, they can't. I can see 3 years between Xmen 1 and 2, but three eyars apart for each, I think is dumb.

its easy to see DC bringing out their big three out in rotation so thats why i don't think until 2010. remember three years between x1 - x2 then three years between x2- x3, then 3 years between X3 and wolverine sounds logical- i'd rather they'd not rush it

"Well the... you know... it was a huge mistake not to let Bryan do X3 so... we're trying to correct that know... you know... maybe..."

If my memory serves me well Hugh Jackman said they were going to have a director by the end of the year (2006). Well its now 2007 already and still no director. Are they going to wait until the last minute to sign someone just like they did on X3 and give that person little or no time to prep the movie?

I think Hollywood is still pretty much on vacation for the holidays this week. I don't think there really is a set date yet for when production will start, although we've heard rumors of late 2007/early 2008 - perhaps that all depends on when a director is attached. They may have one and it just may not be announced yet.
