X-Men: The Last Stand (a revised screenplay)

The Magneto/Scott confrontation has been rewritten to amend my laziness.

Vile, sorry about the language mix up. You wouldn't be able to provide the proper (Anglicanized) Russian word, would you?

interesting story so far. But Magneto can't levitate Scott. Not enough metal on the poor guy or in him. Wolverine just happened to have a metal skeleton. Scott has an iron will, but not a body.

I don't get something. How come Magneto can "fly" by creating some sort of reverse magnetic field around himself but not other people? Does he have metal junk in his pockets? I am prolly missing something or forgot something explained in the comics cuz my brain is fuzzy today. I haven't really thought about it just wondering??

P.S. You could always say "Thanks, tovarich" instead of whatever the Russian word is for Thank You.

The extent of Magneto's abilities have always been vaguely defined, but it doesn't matter, because he no longer levitates Scott.

dont worry, boba, just keep going, I want to know what's next to happend....Im curious.....

INT. PENTAGON

A soldier enters Trask’s office, escorting Raven Darkhölme.

TRASK
Who’s this?

SOLDIER
She turned herself in. Raven Darkhölme.

Trask looks up, interested.

TRASK
Lock her up.

RAVEN
Wait!

Trask looks back to her.

RAVEN
I can tell you where he is.

Trask smiles.

TRASK
Have a seat, Raven.

She sits down.

RAVEN
I’ll want amnesty.

TRASK
I don’t think you’re that dangerous anymore, Raven.

RAVEN
But you’ll let me go?

Trask sighs.

TRASK
You get us to Magneto, you’re clear.

EXT. FOREST ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT

Troops with cure guns, camouflaged, surround the encampment.

INT. PENTAGON READY ROOM

Trask, Raven, and the President watch on a monitor. On radar, numerous white dots indicate the congregation.

EXT. FOREST ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT

The troops close in.

SOLDIER
Hands up!

INT. PENTAGON READY ROOM

Suddenly, dots vanish en masse from the radar screen. The president’s eyes widen in shock, while Trask angrily rounds on Raven.

TRASK
What’s going on?

RAVEN
I don’t know!

The dots continue to disappear until only one remains.

EXT. FOREST ENCAMPMENT – NIGHT

All flashlights focus on the encampment’s sole occupant: Jamie Madrox. Madrox simply shrugs.

MADROX
You caught me.

INT. PENTAGON READY ROOM

The president becomes angry.

PRESIDENT
If he’s not there, then where the hell is he?

Trask yells at Raven.

TRASK
He was ready for us! You tipped him off, you told him we were on him!

RAVEN
Do you honestly think Erik cares about me anymore?

Trask pauses, seeing the very real hurt in Raven’s eyes.

RAVEN
He wouldn’t hear a word I had to say, even if I did want to help him.

She sits down.

RAVEN
So go ahead. Lock me away.

Trask looks to the president, who looks to Raven sympathetically.

PRESIDENT
Let her go. Get her wherever she needs to go.

Trask responds reluctantly.

TRASK
Yes, sir.

INT. MANSION

Scott and Logan burst in the front door.

LOGAN
Ororo!

Ororo descends the staircase.

ORORO
What are you—Scott!

She runs to him and hugs him.

ORORO
Where’s Jean?

LOGAN
She’s with Magneto.

SCOTT
Listen, he’s got an army, and he’s taking them to Alcatraz. We have to get there.

Henry and Emma join them.

HENRY
You saw Magneto?

SCOTT
Yeah. There’s no time, I want everyone downstairs now.

Scott moves past them toward the elevator. Logan looks after him.

LOGAN
He’s back.

He looks to Ororo.

LOGAN
Scott’s really back.

INT. MANSION SUBCOMPLEX

Logan and Henry walk down a hall toward the hangar together. Henry pulls a jacket on snugly.

HENRY
I can’t believe this used to fit me.

Logan chuckles.

HENRY
But in all seriousness…if Magneto gets ahold of that cure, he’ll be unstoppable. How many people does he have?

LOGAN
We can handle it.

Logan moves head.

HENRY
Well, that wasn’t exactly my question, but…

They meet with Scott, Ororo, Kitty, Colossus, and Emma.

LOGAN
Where’s the others?

Bobby, already in uniform, arrives, out of breath.

ORORO
Where’s Rogue?

Bobby looks down.

BOBBY
Rogue’s not here.

Ororo looks away.

Angel joins them.

ANGEL
I wanna come.

SCOTT
Who is this?

ANGEL
Warren Worthington. I know I just got here today—

SCOTT
You’re not trained. You can’t go up against this, I won’t take the risk.

ANGEL
My father’s out there. He’s in danger.

LOGAN
Kid wants to help his old man. I say let him.

Scott turns to Logan.

SCOTT
Get him a uniform. We need all the help we can get.

He turns to Emma.

SCOTT
Are you in?

EMMA
Of course.

SCOTT
Then go suit up.

She eyes up his uniform.

EMMA
These don't come in white, do they?

SHADOWCAT
Why would they be white?

Emma smiles, false sweetly, then follows Warren and Logan.

Moments later, everyone gathers outside the hangar. Emma's outfit, while black, at least has white piping, as does Angel's.

SCOTT
All right, everyone, listen up. There’s only nine of us. We’re outnumbered like hell, I won’t lie. We lost the professor…but if we don’t get out there and fight, everything he stood for goes to waste. You’re not all the most experienced, and I’m giving you this chance to back out now.

Scott turns to Bobby.

SCOTT
Magneto’s got an army out there. You go to war, you might not come home.

He gestures to Kitty.

SCOTT (cont’d)
She might not come home. Can you handle that?

BOBBY
We’re not kids anymore.

SCOTT
All right. We’re in this together everyone. X-Men, all of us.

All nod in agreement.

SCOTT
Let’s move out.

The X-Men file into the hangar. Logan and Ororo stand back.

LOGAN
They’re ready. The kids.

ORORO
I know. I just hope Scott’s ready.

She stops and faces Logan.

ORORO
You know what this is gonna come down to. If Scott can’t do it…will you? Can you?

Logan doesn’t answer. Ororo continues on her way, and Logan follows.

Cool...so Scott,Emma,Warren join the group for the last battle...awesome!!

P.S. You could always say "Thanks, tovarich" instead of whatever the Russian word is for Thank You.

His flying has been explained in various ways. In the early comics he seemed to actually 'ride' the planet's lines of magnetic force, Polaris is able to use enough magnetic force to push downwards and cancel gravity (which is how mag-lev trains work) and this has also been said to apply to Magneto. Movie Magneto uses magnetism to repel metallic objects or metallic structures beneath him, pushing himself off them in a controlled fashion. He is uniquely able to generate the magnetism within himself (I have a brilliant comic that shows his mutant physiology in detail).

He would therefore be unable to generate a magnetic field around something non-magnetic or non-metallic, like another person who had no metal or magnetic properties of their own. Hence he cannot raise Cyclops.

However, I think comicbook (and cartoon) Magneto has broken these rules a few times (depending on the writers!).

Thanks for the explanation. That's basically what I was thinking but wasn't sure. Appreciate it!! :D

Scott and Jean still have plenty coming, so it was okay, in my evaluation of the script, to leave that scene for the shock value. You don't ask the deep questions when your wife comes back from the dead; you make out.

Umm...Logan was the one you had making out with her.

EDIT: Vile: Then I'll rewrite that scene definitely. As for Scott and Jean, like I said, they have plenty more coming, and while it feels like a copout, there's nothing more I can say than "wait and see". There's a reason that Jean thought Scott was dead, which is coming. I don't see how Logan/Jean still feels like the central relationship, as I think I've shifted the focus enough that it's now a triangle. I'd even go so far as to say that it's biased toward Scott/Jean, but then, I'm hardly objective.

No I still don't see it. I think you are missing out on a lot of juicy scenes by writing Scott out of act 1. Just like the filmmakers did. And since you have basically just shifted things around from the actual X-men 3 script, Scott being alive does feel very forced. The coma thing causes a lot of missed opportunities.

Well, I respect your opinion, but I personally don't see how keeping Scott alive adds any more potential. The most that could happen is putting Scott in Logan's position in the infirmary scene, but still, Jean's gone right after that unless the script is entirely overhauled (which, I said at the start, was NOT my intention). So I'm not going to defend my decisions to you, because I feel that they're the right ones to make. Jean made out with Logan in X2 as well, and it was no less wrong then. There is a conflict of feeling there, and that's okay. I do appreciate your commentary, and maybe if I ever revise my revision, I'll take some of it into account, but this project was always intended to simply take Kinberg and Penn's screenplay and revise it, not completely reimagine it.

EDIT: Uh, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Scott and Jean get right to the kissing in my Alkali Lake scene.

Umm...you are keeping Scott alive in your version. So you know what that means? You don't have to make the same stupid mistakes X-men 3 did.

And you added Emma and her Cuckoos. If Emma Frost is in an X-men movie, I want to see how she'd react to Scott if at all. Plus, I'd love to see what would happen if Scott was added into the mix in those scenes rather than just Wolverine and Beast bickering.

So I'm not going to defend my decisions to you, because I feel that they're the right ones to make. Jean made out with Logan in X2 as well, and it was no less wrong then.

It wasn't making out. He kissed her, and she shot him down.

You've already re-imagined it quite a bit. So might as well take it further.

INT. X-JET

Kitty and Bobby look at each other, both clearly scared out of their minds.

Scott takes the pilot’s seat, Storm next to him.

SCOTT
Everyone ready?

STORM
As we’ll ever be.

SCOTT
All right.

He starts the jet.

SCOTT
Let’s see how fast this thing can go.

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO BAY – NIGHT

Magneto, Callisto, Pyro, and Juggernaut stand at the edge of the bay, looking toward Alcatraz.

MAGNETO
You’re sure the boy is still inside?

CALLISTO
Positive.

JUGGERNAUT
How are we supposed to get over there? I don’t swim.

MAGNETO
Leave that to me.

PYRO
What do we gotta get over there for? Just crush him.

MAGNETO
As usual, you fail to grasp the larger picture. I want to see Worthington’s face before he dies.

Pyro scoffs.

MAGNETO
Now follow me.

They leave. Off to the side, Jean stands alone, her hair blowing in the wind.

JEAN
Scott…

She turns and joins the rest of the Brotherhood.

EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE – NIGHT

A rush of nighttime traffic crosses the bridge. Suddenly, several of the cars screech to a halt. Many drivers look around, panicked. At the end of the bridge, Magneto, Pyro, Callisto, Juggernaut, and Phoenix lead the army of mutants, Magneto’s hands outstretched. He magnetically parts the sea of cars, sending them crashing to either side of the bridge. Citizens have now begun to leave their cars and run away. Magneto smirks, and stops in his tracks. Extending his arms grandly, he focuses all his power, and begins to tear the bridge from the supporting cables and columns. Soon, the entire section of the bridge is free, and begins floating toward Alcatraz.

EXT. ALCATRAZ – NIGHT

Troops rush up observation towers to get a better view, and react in astonishment as they see the bridge moving toward them. It moves over them, and some of the soldiers manage to run away before Magneto releases his hold. The bridge lands with a loud sound that echoes throughout the bay. Magneto smirks.

MAGNETO
Charles always wanted to build bridges.

INT. WORTHINGTON’S OFFICE

Worthington looks out the window in horror as the army sets foot onto the island.

EXT. ALCATRAZ – NIGHT

The soldiers prepare, taking up cure guns and rushing to the front of the complex.

The Brotherhood reaches a hill overlooking the lab yard.

CALLISTO
He’s in the southeast corner of the building.

MAGNETO
Then it begins now. Pyro?

Pyro smirks, then unleashes a war cry, rallying the Brotherhood.

PYRO
Let’s go!

The army charges forward, landing in the yard and beginning to fight the soldiers. Juggernaut moves to join them, but Magneto holds him back.

MAGNETO
Wait. In chess, the pawns go first.

The soldiers begin firing their guns. Magneto scoffs in disgust.

MAGNETO
Humans and their guns. Will they ever learn?

He extends a hand, expecting all the guns to cease functioning, but nothing happens.

MAGNETO
Plastic. They’re getting better.

The first wave of mutants falls to the cure guns. One mutant, a lizard-esque man, writhes on the ground, spasming, as his appearance returns to that of a normal human. A flying mutant is hit midair, and promptly falls to the ground, neck snapping.

Several of the soldiers set up rockets, which launch clusters of cure needles into the air and send them raining down on large numbers of mutants. On the hill, Magneto and the others watch. Phoenix stands far behind them, silent.

MAGNETO
That’s why the pawns go first.

He turns to Arclight.

MAGNETO
Arclight, target your shockwaves to destroy those weapons.

Arclight comes to the front of the group and claps her hands together, sending out a shockwave into the battlefield. The cure rockets explode, injuring the soldiers operating them.

EXT. SKY OVER SAN FRANCISCO – NIGHT

The X-Jet roars in.

INT. X-JET

Scott, Ororo, Logan, and Henry look out at the battle.

HENRY
Oh my stars and garters…

SCOTT
This is bad. Storm, cloak us.

INT. WHITE HOUSE READY ROOM

Trask and the president watch a satellite feed of the battle.

PRESIDENT
What’s going on over there? Send in tanks, planes—

TRASK
This is Magneto we’re talking about, sir. He’ll tear them apart.

PRESIDENT
What about Stryker’s designs? The Sentinels?

TRASK
The plastic models never got off the ground before Stryker’s division was shut down.

PRESIDENT
Damn it! Where are the back up troops?

TRASK
Thirty minutes away, minimum.

The president sighs.

PRESIDENT
Then I just pray God is with us.

INT. WORTHINGTON’S OFFICE

Worthington still stands, looking out the window. Kavita enters.

WORTHINGTON
They’re coming after me.

Kavita joins him.

EXT. ALCATRAZ – NIGHT

Callisto looks up in the sky.

CALLISTO
Something’s coming.

The cloaked X-Jet lands on the roof. Lightning lights up the sky as Storm flies down from the roof. Beast follows her, roaring and landing like a true animal. Iceman and Shadowcat jump together, phasing into the ground and then popping back up.

ICEMAN
Don’t ever do that again.

SHADOWCAT
Whatever.

Angel carries Cyclops to the ground, and Colossus and Emma, in metal and diamond forms respectively, jump off the roof. Lastly, Wolverine descends a chute, using his claws to slow his descent. Cyclops turns to yell to the humans.

CYCLOPS
Go back! Lock the doors! Don’t let them through at any cost!

The X-Men all line up: Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Emma, Beast, Shadowcat, Iceman, Colossus, and Angel. Cyclops shouts to them.

CYCLOPS
Stand together! No one gets past this point: whatever you do, hold this line!

Shadowcat nods nervously at him.

Over on the hill, Magneto’s eyes are drawn to the new arrivals. He sneers.

MAGNETO
Traitors to their own cause.

He then shouts.

MAGNETO
Finish them!

The brotherhood switches gears and charges toward the X-Men. Wolverine slashes a large pole, which falls to the ground crushing several of the brotherhood mutants. Beast snarls and leaps into a mutant, swinging around and tackling another. Emma hooks one in the neck, while Shadowcat phases through another. Colossus pick up the fallen pole and swings it at a large crowd of baddies.

Back on the hill, Magneto turns to Arclight and Quill.

MAGNETO
It’s time you did your part.

They nod and move toward the lab.

Storm flies close to the building. Smirking, Callisto speeds up to the roof, then leaps out, tackling Storm to the ground.

Iceman creates a wall of ice, stopping several mutants who had been charging at him. Pyro begins to move down to fight him, but Magneto holds him back.

MAGNETO
Not just yet.

Callisto and Storm continue the fist fight, Storm adapting to Callisto’s dirty fighting style. Frustrated, Callisto pulls a knife on Storm and begins slashing at her, tearing her uniform at the arm.

On the hill, Magneto turns now to Juggernaut.

MAGNETO
Go. Find the boy--and kill him.

Juggernaut nods and puts on his helmet. He charges toward the lab and right through the wall. Cyclops takes note. He yells to Kitty as he zaps several mutants.

CYCLOPS
He’s going after the kid!

KITTY
Not if I get there first!

Kitty gives chase, phasing through the wall.

Cyclops spins and elbows a mutant who tried to sneak up on him from behind, then fires an optic blast at Colossus; it reflects off his steel and into a mutant behind him.

Wolverine is midfight with another mutant. He slashes off his arms, but they merely grow back every time, and then hit Wolverine while his guard is down. Having enough, Wolverine simply kicks the mutant in the groin. The mutant falls.

WOLVERINE
Grow those back.

INT. LAB

Shadowcat chases after Juggernaut, who has knocked holes in several walls already. She jumps at him from behind and phases him into the floor, leaving him stuck there. She runs ahead and stops at the wall, smirking mischievously.

JUGGERNAUT
Don’t you know who I am?

Shadowcat runs ahead.

JUGGERNAUT (cont’d)
I’m the Juggernaut, *****!

He breaks out of the floor and jumps up, running after her and knocking through the walls in his way. After a few rooms, Shadowcat hides rather than continuing, and Juggernaut runs past her. Relieved, she takes an alternate route.

Hi Boba,

I just wanted to say that I think you're doing a great job revising the screenplay. I really like how you've added Cyclops back into the movie and found a place for Emma also.

I loved your idea of the bond with Jean, it gives more substance to their relationship which always was far underplayed in the movies. I had come up with something similar though not as defined as a psychic bond, would you mind terribly if I borrowed the term to use myself?

I also really like Angel in the picture for the final battle, I was really disppointed with him because it felt to me his role was basically a plot device to introduce the cure and nothing else, especially after so much promotion.

Anyway I just really wanted to tell you I am enjoying reading the screenplay in its entirety, great job.

Go ahead; I borrowed the term from Claremont anyway :p.

Thanks for the kind words. We're in the last leg of the screenplay now, so there should only be a few more updates.

Thanks a lot, I'm sure Claremonet won't mind.

I look forward to seeing what you've come up with in the ending. Without giving any specifics, are you planning a similar or different ending to TLS?

It's not radically different. I'll leave it at that for now.

This is excellent. One thing, during costume selection, can you add some info as to how Emma got her costume?I'd love to see

SCOTT
Ms.Frost,take a spare.

Emma
Do these come in white?

Really great to read and imagine all the x-men scenes, with Scott now, and Angel... really great.

Thanks for the work.

wow!!! really cool!! i love it please continue!!!cyclops, emma angel in the final battle great!

The penultimate update.

INT. LAB HALLWAY

Worthington and Kavita walk briskly through the hall, looking for a way out. As they turn a corner, Quill and Arclight appear. Worthington and Kavita promptly turn the other way, but Psylocke appears from the shadows, purple energy glowing in her right hand like a knife.

PSYLOCKE
Going somewhere?

Worthington and Rao stop in their tracks, trapped.

QUILL
You’re the guy who invented the cure, right?

WORTHINGTON
I am. What bearing that has on what’s going on now is lost on me.

QUILL
Sure.

He signals to the girls, who grab Worthington and drag him away.

KAVITA
No! Don’t hurt him!

Quill grabs Kavita’s shoulders.

QUILL
Shh…don’t scream…

He hugs her, comforting her.

QUILL
It’s all right…everything’s gonna be all right…

Suddenly, he spikes up. Kavita’s eyes widen. The quills retract, and Kavita slumps to the floor. Quill claps his hands as though brushing off dust, then follows Arclight and Psylocke.

EXT. LAB – NIGHT

Wolverine and Beast are back to back fighting Magneto’s mutants. Wolverine shouts to Beast, both conversing as they fight.

WOLVERINE
I thought you were a diplomat?

BEAST
Well, as Churchill said, there comes a time when all men must…

He stops to back flip over a mutant, who he then punches to the ground.

BEAST
Oh, you get the point!

INT. LEECH’S ROOM

Shadowcat phases into Leech’s room. She looks around and spots Jimmy hiding on the floor behind his bed. She runs over to him and grabs his arm.

SHADOWCAT
Don’t worry, I’m here to help you!

She helps him up.

SHADOWCAT
I’m gonna get you out of here. Hang on!

She runs toward the wall. And straight into it.

SHADOWCAT
Ow! How the—

JIMMY
Your powers won’t work around me.

She looks at him.

JIMMY (cont’d)
That’s my power.

SHADOWCAT
Oh.

She looks around, at a loss. Juggernaut can be heard approaching.

SHADOWCAT
Wait…stay close.

Jimmy stays by her side as Juggernaut crashes in.

JUGGERNAUT
You picked the wrong bloke to play hide and seek with!

SHADOWCAT
Who’s hiding, ********?

Juggernaut shouts and charges at her. At the last second, Shadowcat grabs Jimmy and dives out of the way. Juggernaut runs right into the wall and falls backward, knocked unconscious.

SHADOWCAT
Come on, let’s go!

They run back through the path Juggernaut created.

INT. HALLWAY

Arclight, Psylocke, and Quill take Worthington up to the roof.

WORTHINGTON
Please, don’t kill me!

QUILL
You mean the way you’ve killed all these mutants?

WORTHINGTON
No one’s died because of this cure! And I never meant for it to come to this! The cure was meant to be for those mutants who wanted it!

PSYLOCKE
Yeah…they’re called the weak ones.
They climb a stairwell.

EXT. ROOF – NIGHT

They walk Worthington over to the edge.

PSYLOCKE
We’ve had quite enough, Mr. Worthington.

She shoves him. Worthington falls, but at the last second, Angel swoops in and scoops him up, saving him from death.

Worthington looks at his son.

WORTHINGTON
Warren…son…

ANGEL
It’s okay, Dad. I’ve got you.

Warren flies his father away to safety. They land on the other side of the bay.

WORTHINGTON
Son, I’m so sorry. I…I was wrong.

ANGEL
It’s all right.

He spreads his wings.

ANGEL
I have to go back.

WORTHINGTON
I know. Just come back to me, all right.

ANGEL
Yeah.

WORTHINGTON
I love you, son.

Angel takes off and returns to the fight.

EXT. LAB – NIGHT

Callisto and Storm continue their fight. Storm manages to wrest the knife from Callisto, who punches Storm in the face. Storm extends a hand and sends lightning at Callisto, who flies back into a wall. Storm charges at her, but Callisto flips over her. This time Storm is ready, however, and she plunges the knife behind her into Callisto’s gut. Callisto’s eyes widen, and then she falls back, dead. Storm flies off quickly.

EXT. HILL – NIGHT

Magneto, Pyro, and Phoenix stand on the hill. Magneto scowls.

MAGNETO
It’s time to end this war.

PHOENIX
The boy still lives, Erik.

Magneto turns to her.

MAGNETO
I see you making no effort, my dear.

PHOENIX
You think I’m on your side?

Magneto turns to Pyro.

MAGNETO
Follow my lead.

Magneto summons a car from behind him and sends it into the air. Pyro sends a fireball up, turning the car into a grenade. It lands on a group of soldiers.

Phoenix returns to her silent vigil.

Down the hill, Cyclops and Emma fight a group of mutants. They find themselves surrounded.

EMMA
Shoot me, darling.

CYCLOPS
What?
EMMA
Your visor, aim it at me.

CYCLOPS
Oh. I get it.

He fires an optic blast at Emma. Her diamond body acts as a prism, and the beam goes wild, hitting all of the mutants encircling them.

CYCLOPS
Good thinking.

He looks up the hill and sees Jean.

CYCLOPS
Jean…

Emma notices where his attention has gone.

CYCLOPS
I have to get to her.

EMMA
She’s not hurting anyone right now. Why don’t we try to keep it that way?

CYCLOPS
I can save her!

A flaming car comes flying in their direction. Emma grabs him and dives away.

EMMA
It might just have to wait!

Magneto sees Cyclops and Emma, and turns to Gambit.

MAGNETO
Gambit!

GAMBIT
On it, m’sieu.

Gambit leaps down and swings at Cyclops with his staff, hitting him square in the jaw. Cyclops recoils and fires a blast at Gambit, knocking him back.
EMMA
Well aren’t you just a delightful opponent?

GAMBIT
Now, now, chére, don’t say anything you might regret. Who knows, after this battle, we might go out for a drink or two…?

Emma scoffs.

EMMA
Darling, if you’re trying to make me vomit, then it’s working.

She places her hands at her temples.

EMMA
Why don’t you take a break?

Gambit collapses. Emma helps Cyclops back up.

EMMA
Let’s take care of the huge army, and then we can save your girlfriend. Fair?

CYCLOPS
Someone’s gotta take out Magneto…Emma, patch me in to Logan and Hank.

EXT. LAB

Colossus and Iceman encounter Phat.

ICEMAN
Oh man.

PHAT
End of the line, X-Men!

Phat charges at them. Iceman ices up the ground, causing him to slip. Iceman jumps over him, creating an iceslide to lead him back down. Colossus picks up Phat and throws him into a wall, removing more than a few bricks.

COLOSSUS
That wasn’t too hard.

Elsewhere, Storm dodges a car, then finds cover with Wolverine and Henry. Iceman joins them.

STORM
Where’s Scott?

WOLVERINE
He was just talkin’ in our heads.

SCOTT (V/O)
Guys, listen up.

STORM
We hear you.

SCOTT (V/O)
We gotta do something about Magneto.

Scott and Emma run toward them, Scott blasting a car away.

They join them in the cover. Cyclops spots a cure gun laying on the ground.

CYCLOPS
We have to make a choice.

EMMA
I’m for it.

WOLVERINE
It’s him or us. And we work as a team…right?

STORM
Right. And you know what they say…

Wolverine chuckles briefly, then turns to Iceman.

WOLVERINE
Think you can distract your old friend?

Iceman looks toward Pyro.

ICEMAN
Yeah.

CYCLOPS
All right. Storm, give us some cover. Emma, keep everyone connected, all right?

EMMA
No problem.

Iceman runs out from the cover and ices a car before it explodes.

EXT. HILL – NIGHT

Magneto looks down at Iceman, then turns to Pyro.

MAGNETO
Go ahead.

Smirking, Pyro takes off. He shoots a fireball at Iceman, but Iceman freezes it, and their powers collide. Back on the hill, Magneto and Phoenix look around for the remaining X-Men, but the fog obscures their vision.

Pyro and Iceman continue the struggle, as Pyro’s flames begin to test Iceman’s stamina. Soon, he is engulfed. Pyro laughs.

PYRO
You’re in way over your head, Bobby. Maybe you should go back to school.

Enraged, Iceman fully ices up and leaps out at Pyro, headbutting him.

ICEMAN
You never should’ve left.

Scowling, Pyro gets up and punches Bobby, but to no effect.

PYRO
Neat trick.

Pyro ups the ante on his flames, but Bobby retaliates. Finally, Bobby dives forward and grabs Pyro’s lighter.

ICEMAN
Not much without this, are you?

Iceman freezes the lighter, and throws it away. Pyro whips his head around to track its progress.

PYRO
No!

Iceman punches Pyro in the side of the head, knocking him out.

ICEMAN
You’ll be better off that way, trust me.

Elsewhere, Wolverine spots Magneto, and looks to Colossus.

WOLVERINE
Think you can do it again?

COLOSSUS
Shouldn’t be a problem.

WOLVERINE
Let’s see it, then.

Colossus picks up Wolverine and throws him up the hill, at Magneto. Magneto merely spins around and uses his powers to stop Logan mid-flight.

MAGNETO
You really never learn, do you?

WOLVERINE
Actually, I do.

Beast leaps out from behind Magneto and injects cure needles into his chest. Stunned, Magneto falls to his knees. Wolverine falls to the ground. Cyclops, Storm, Colossus, and Emma all gather around him.

MAGNETO
I’m…

STORM
One of them.

Magneto rolls on the ground and looks to Jean.

MAGNETO
This is…what they want for all of us, Jean!

Cyclops moves slowly toward Jean.

CYCLOPS
Jean…it’s over.

The battle is dying down now. Soldiers have set up new cure cannons, and they take the opportunity to fire at Jean, who it seems from their vantage is attacking the X-Men. Cyclops shouts at them:

CYCLOPS
No, don’t shoot!!

Too late. Jean’s eyes go black and she stops all the shots telekinetically, turning the needles into dust. The X-Men all go flying down the hill in a burst of telekinetic energy.

CYCLOPS
Everyone, get out of here!

A telekinetic storm begins to rage as Phoenix levitates into the air. Shadowcat and Leech exit the lab and join with Iceman to run away. Magneto looks in horror at Phoenix.

MAGNETO
What have I done?

Surreptitiously, he sneaks into the large group that is now fleeing.

Storm, Wolverine, and Cyclops gather.

CYCLOPS
I have to stop her.

WOLVERINE
You didn’t see what she did to the Professor. She’ll tear you apart! Send me.

STORM
He can heal, Scott, he’s the only one—

CYCLOPS
No.

He looks at them, resolved.

CYCLOPS
It has to be me.

WOLVERINE
Scott, don’t do this, you don’t—

CYCLOPS
No, Logan! It can’t be anyone else.

Storm looks at him, saddened.

STORM
Please…come back.

CYCLOPS
Get everyone to safety. Now!

Storm flies away, and Logan runs off. Cyclops turns back to Phoenix.

CYCLOPS
Jean!

She ignores him. The TK storm has gotten worse. Poles fall, cars fly. Soldiers have begun to explode, as the professor did earlier. Quill, Arclight, and Psylocke run outside. Psylocke melds into the shadows as Quill and Arclight explode. Water now begins to rise up from the bay, and fiery wings engulf Phoenix, her rage embodying itself in the form of a firebird. She glows like a second sun as Cyclops continues to move toward her.

CYCLOPS
Jean!

Phoenix knocks him backward as she returns to the ground, but he resists and continues onward. The building itself has now begun to fly apart.

Cyclops continues up the hill, bits of his uniform flying off slowly. She continues to resist, and he is forced to crawl up toward her. Mere feet separate them, when, as he gets up, his entire top is destroyed. Gritting his teeth, he continues. His cheek is now bleeding, as is his arm.

Finally, he is before her. Phoenix looks to him, and smiles wickedly.

PHOENIX
You would die for them?

CYCLOPS
No! Not for them, Jean!

She is confused for a second, fire still surrounding her.

CYCLOPS
For you. I love you, Jean!

Slowly, her eyes return to normal. The flames recede.

JEAN
Scott…

CYCLOPS
Why, Jean? Why’d you do it?

JEAN
Do what?

CYCLOPS
Leave me.

She looks away.

JEAN
I…I wanted to save you. From this.

She cries.

JEAN
Please, Scott…save me.

CYCLOPS
No, Jean…we can make it better.

She falls to her knees, and Scott collapses with her.

JEAN
I’m so sorry, Scott! This is all my fault! I felt the power, and I knew I could save you, but…I couldn’t keep it in. I can’t control it!

CYCLOPS
We can make it better.

They both cry now. Silently, Emma approaches them. She hands Scott something.

JEAN
Please, Scott. I can’t anymore.

CYCLOPS
It’s okay.

Tears streaming down his face, he jabs Jean in the side with a cure needle. She gasps. Emma watches silently, her diamond façade hiding the fact that she’s tearing up. Scott clutches at Jean, who sobs into his shoulder as the transformation takes place.

EXT. XAVIER INSTITUTE – DAY

The next day, Kitty Pryde stands before Charles Xavier’s grave, tears in her eyes. Ororo joins her, and hugs her, comforting her.

KITTY
I can’t believe he’s really gone.

ORORO
I know. But he’ll always be with us.

Kitty wipes her eyes and nods her assent, leaning against Ororo.

EXT. BOATHOUSE – DAY

Jean and Scott sit by the lake.

JEAN
I remember the last time we sat here together.

She looks over to Scott.

JEAN
I thought I’d lost you. I thought you were dead. I…I think you were. But I felt you inside me, still, and…you kept me here, Scott. Kept me sane, through this whole nightmare.

SCOTT
But I came back.

JEAN
And I lost that piece of you. It left me, because it wanted you.

Jean fights tears.

JEAN
But…that small piece of me that was still me…I needed you. I need that piece back, to be me.

She curls up on the grass.

JEAN
And I can’t get it back.

Scott embraces her.

JEAN
I killed so many people, Scott…I can’t do this. I can’t live with this.

SCOTT
We’re gonna get you through this, Jean. You’re okay now.

JEAN
It’s like I’m deaf. You get so used to all the voices…and then they’re gone.

SCOTT
Shh…everything’s okay now…everything’s okay.

INT. LOGAN’S ROOM

Logan stands at the window, watching Scott and Jean. Ororo enters.

ORORO
She’s having trouble adjusting.

LOGAN
Wouldn’t you?

ORORO
Of course I would.

She sits on his bed.

ORORO
Do you think we did the right thing?

LOGAN
Only other thing we coulda done was kill her. And ain’t none of us wanted to that.

INT. ROGUE’S ROOM

Bobby stands in the empty room. Rogue enters quietly.

ROGUE
Hey.

BOBBY
Hey.

She hugs him.

ROGUE
I’m sorry, Bobby.

She begins to cry.

ROGUE
This…this is who I am.

BOBBY
Rogue…

ROGUE
I’m not here to stay. I just didn’t want you thinkin’ that I dropped off the face o’ the earth or anything like that.

He leans in to kiss her. She turns away.

BOBBY
Rogue, what…

ROGUE
I couldn’t do it. When I absorb people’s powers…I get a piece of them too. And…I couldn’t lose the piece of you.
She turns away, sobbing into her hand.

ROGUE
I gotta go, Bobby.

She leaves. Bobby stands for a moment, then shakes his head and runs after her.

INT. HALLWAY

He stops at the window. Outside, Rogue hops on a bike with Gambit.

EXT. MANSION

Gambit winks at Rogue as she puts on her helmet, then speeds off.

INT. HALLWAY

Bobby turns around, icing up, and returns to his room.

EXT. COURTYARD

Ororo, Emma, and Henry welcome stand with the students, back from an impromptu holiday. Jimmy runs up to Ororo, who hugs him. Emma stands with Cuckoos, and Henry smiles.

HENRY
It’s good to be back.

ORORO
We’re happy to have both of you.

EMMA
Yes, well, it will certainly take some getting used to, but I think my girls and I will manage.

EXT. BAR – ALBERTA

Logan gets off his motorcycle and enters the bar.

INT. BAR

The bartender takes one look at Logan. Logan nods at him, and reluctantly, the bartender nods back.

BARTENDER
Read about you in the paper. “The Wolverine”.

LOGAN
Yeah? What’d it say?

BARTENDER
They reckon you’re a some kinda hero or something.

Logan chuckles.

LOGAN
No kiddin’? Get the hero a beer, then.

The bartender goes to get Logan a drink.

EXT. SAN FRANCISCO – DAY

Reconstruction has begun on the Golden Gate bridge. Angel soars through the sky. A young girl in the park points up at him, excitedly.

EXT. PARK – DAY

Several chess tables have been set up, where the coffee clutches of old men sit around each morning. At one table, a sad old man sits by himself. Erik Lensherr. As though longing for the old days, he reaches out to a pawn, not quite touching it. And, just a little bit, it moves.

THE END.

So that's it. 116 pages in Word, and something that I hope is a little better than what we got. Hope you enjoyed it, and I appreciate all your feedback. Who knows, maybe I'll revisit this, or even start work on X4.
