I was thinking about how creepy the laugh track on Scooby doo used to be. Imagine if mysterio used that to freak out Spider-Man. So he’s trapped in a carnival of horrors, makes a joke to try and lighten the mood and then hysterical laughter booming in from everywhere every time he says something. So creepy

I'm not going to lie, as a kid I used to love all those Scooby-Doo live action films. I was surprised to find out James Gunn had a part in the first 2.

I would be excited if Mysterio has Scooby-Doo sounds as a backdrop, or Spidey jumping from soundset to sound set while dealing with Mysterio illusions.

Oh of course! I’m afraid the newer ones are not quite my cup of tea. Which is fine, the newer generation should do new things. But in terms of style I wanted classic Scooby.

I seem to remember Hugo weaving took a long time to be confirmed. We saw him on set and saw him in the credits but then for some reason it took ages for them to officially release the press release and by then we were like “we been knew”

I’m sure it will happen. I’ll be very sad if he doesn’t. I guess other than pay there might be an issue with appearing in sequels and how he will make time for that. They’re obviously building for sinister six but obviously Jake is quite in demand

I think it's safe to assume he's in unless we hear otherwise, e.g. any reports saying that the deal fell through, though it's been over a month since the news of his casting broke and there hasn't been. We don't necessarily need him confirmed either, because as someone else said it's taken a long time in the past.

Yeah true, and Feige tends to play coy anyway, so I wouldn't expect him to corroborate what trades are saying.

It's interesting if he does take the role. Mysterio is pretty much a C-list villain. And Jake was a frontrunner to be Batman or even Moon Knight if the MCU went ahead with it.

Where are you getting this? Seems like that'd be rumor/speculation and nothing more, I don't remember anything on that. Doubtful.

JG clearly has no beef against doing a commercial big budget film now and then. He’s not some holier than thou actor who only does independent movies. At this point I imagine it’s just a matter of finalizing how much he’ll get paid for this one and possible future appearances.

That's a good point. But just funny to see him as a villain in the MCU. I can't see him in a Sinister Six series unless they really added to the character.

They could certainly add to Mysterio as a character by playing up some of his comic book counterpart's more interesting traits and expanding on them, just like they did with the Vulture. They played up and expanded on Vulture's feelings of being persecuted and his desire to rise above that persecution and feel in control for a change. These traits were true to the comic book version of Vulture, and they did a great job focusing on them for the purposes of the movie's story. With Mysterio, they could play up and expand upon his desire to make his frustrating, unhappy reality go away and create a better, illusory reality in its place as a cure for all of his life's problems.
