Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

Am i the only one who thinks Spidey has way better villains than Mysterio?

I’m excited. They could have just taken the easy shot and gone for kraven or something but choosing an out there character like mysterio and making him work is genuinely exciting

superhero movies essentially create their own characters that are based on the comicbook versions. Mysterio has undeniable visual potential and the writing is just a matter of having a focused creative team on this movie. So, how good a villain is in the comics is almost irrelevant to what makes a good villain choice for a film. Take TASM2's Green Goblin for example. Just as well, Marvel could have a really cool angle on Mysterio with a sharp script

Mysterio is one of my favorites.

He does, but i like Mysterio and we've never seen him in live action before. I just hope they make his costume as close as they can to his comic book counterpart, and it's in no way inspired by Stark technology.

They butchered The Lizard in ASM, wasn't too thrilled about the Vultures look, and we've seen GG, Electro, Rhino, Shocker, Doc Ock, Sandman and Venom before. The only other villains I can think of minus Mysterio is Scorpion or Hobgoblin.

Mysterio is a very theatrical villain. You can do tons of creative stuff with his illusions.

I mostly agree with this and i hope they actually do pull it off. I just don't think Mysterio is that interesting to begin with but hey, if they make him awesome in the movies, i'll happily admit i was wrong.

I don't see any official confirmations from THR or The Wrap, just the initial "in talks" articles.

me either and they have started filming keaton was signed when they started filming

They did a good job of updating Vulture while keeping the spirit of the comics. But then they made Shocker just a random henchman, which to be fair, no way he could have carried a whole movie. So Mysterio is a toss-up. I think If they keep him a more intimate villain, as in one not trying to take over the world, it could work.

I just ask he doesn’t have a personal connection to Parker. Every Spider-man movie has done this.

Shocker has always been pretty much a henchman though. Mysterio actually has a lot of potential.

I mean, remember he was the one who defeated the xmen in old man Logan. No spoilers here

I like Mysterio and I do agree about his potential but I don't think he should have been capable to do what he did to Logan in that book.

Mysterio controlling the world by pretending to be all the powerful people who went missing, then they show up.

It was a pretty grisly scene but it is an interesting thing to do to take on “joke” villain characters and make them menacing

I've never been a fan of Mysterio and I also don't trust anyone involved with these movies to do anything creative with him, a ton of Marvel villains had tons of potential that was completely wasted especially with the actors playing them and now I'm worried Jake Gyllenhaal is gonna join that group.

I've never been a fan either but c'mon, it's Jake Gyllenhaal.
He's usually pretty picky about his roles and who he works with

Marvel has done such a great job with the villains of late and Vulture was one of the best things about Homecoming.

I find the MCU to be very overrated over all but I think the MCU over the last like 5 years or so has gotten a lot better and I think a big reasons for that is that the villains are getting better and I was not felling the choice of vulture for HC because he is really like one of the worst Spiderman villains but he ended up being great.

Looks like he's in London..

So unless it's a massive coincidence that he, Tom, and Marisa are all in London while the movie's filming, I'd take this as confirmation.

I worry as well. They must have really done wonders for the character or signed Gyllenhaal a $20 million dollar check.

The MCU is the place to be right now, career-wise. He probably leapt at the chance before even reading the script or seeing the concept art....

Knowing Jake I doubt that much. I'm sure he at least got the script, watched Homecoming, did some research on the character of Quentin Beck.

I concur. Jake's a particular type of actor. Doesn't seem to go for franchises. Every now and then he does an audience pleaser to pay the rent (ie Prince of Persia) but mostly he prefers darker fare.

I don't think Gyllenhaal fits the role of Mysterio, he tends to look a bit too well-off to play a struggling everyman. He has played poor/lower class characters before, in October Sky (where he was did so well, it was his first role) and Brokeback Mountain and Brothers (there I think not so well, OK but not real good, more like uncomfortable stretching). Edit: I also thought he didn't fit very well in Jarhead.

You need to watch Nightcrawler if you think this.
