I sure hope he has a big role in this.
^^ It's Jake Gyllenhaal. So for sure, his role won't be small.
It makes me sad that such a good actor got a role in this franchise, he deserves better.

I actually agree with you, I cringe when I see people claim it's the most accurate Spider-Man depiction when it's really REALLY not. Spider-Man is treated like a side-kick by Tony Stark and that is such a betrayal of the original concept for the character. Also for some reason Peter is part Miles Morales with Ganke as his best friend and has his suit gifted by someone else, doesn't make it himself. A lot of this version's supporting cast are INOs and Peter talks to an A.I. (thank god that didn't return in Infinity War, I hope it stays like that), Peter doesn't mention even once about Uncle Ben in Homecoming, not even Aunt May mentions him when Peter's about to go to the dance. The best part, the absolute best part of the film is the part where Peter faces Vulture on his own with his homemade suit and we get that incredible scene where Peter lifts the debris, straight outta "If this be my destiny". Only problem? They use a Tony Stark line to give him inspiration......not.... oh I don't know Uncle Ben? Perfect time to use the "With great power, comes great responsibility" line. What a wasted opportunity. But you know, greatest Spider-Man on screen right?
Yep, not to mention that Peter is supposed to be at an ordinary high school, not some private school for brainy students funded by Stark.
Peter being handed things on a silver platter goes against what the character stands for.

Definitely agreed. Hate that they gave the character a private science school and a wimpy flash, a frumpy MJ and some ganke Ned impersonating Guy. I hope most of those characters dont return. I bet Sony is hard at work making a spin off flash film thats why we didnt get a good one in the mcu
Anyway to get back on topic, how do you think Jake Gyllenhaal will play Mysterio? Will he go full on camp with it? Or will he play it more sinister and creepy? Maybe a bit of both? What do you guys think?
I think Gyllenhaal will play Mysterio as a mixture of creepy and campy, a blend of sinister and entertaining. In some scenes, I think he will emphasize Mysterio's entertaining and melodramatic side, and in other scenes, he will highlight Mysterio's eerie and creepy side.
A number of movie villains manage to get the balance just right, being entertainingly campy without being too silly, and also being threatening and sinister without going too far in that direction either. One example is Gert Frobe's performance as Auric Goldfinger in the James Bond movie Goldfinger. In that film, Goldfinger as a villain was the perfect mixture of entertaining and sinister. He was a fun villain, but also threatening and deadly serious when necessary. I wouldn't be surprised if Jake Gyllenhaal takes a similar approach to Mysterio as Gert Frobe took to Auric Goldfinger.
