Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

He’s got the potential to be a totally unique villain. Going to be very interesting when we get to see more.
Yeah Mysterio abilities allows them to do a lot. They can put Parker's mind in a blender with all the illusions and such. Especially since he will be returning from getting snapped. He might be on edge.

Yeah, his abilities and background will both be interesting. And good point, Spidey’s head will probably be all over the place even before he gets to Mysterio. Last thing he needs when he should be relaxing lol.

I'd like the Mysterio fights to be the polar opposite of the Vulture ones. Public places with destruction and mayhem. Vulture flew under the radar, Mysterio should make himself known in a big and dangerous way.

Yeah that was annoying, people thought that he'd be "wasted" as Vulture or something, forgetting the fact that it's Michael friggin' Keaton, a man who could play the Condiment King and still make him terrifying.

I really don't understand that line of thinking but I do remember those discussions. If anything, it gave Vulture the chance to shine--good writing and a solid actor is a winning combo.

You've seen Homecoming, right? I don't understand how any of that was "forced".

Reminds me of someone else that used to post here :loco:

I have a better question...do you guys think there is any chance at a gigantic Mysterio? He has grown colossal a few times in comics, and was giant for his infamous boss battle in the PS1 Spider-Man game (one of my favorite boss battles ever in a Spidey game).

He was also huge-ified in the Shattered Dimensions game as well. But yes, I'd be down for that especially if it's paired with the quote below...

My favorite Mysterio story was when he made Spider-man believe he was shrunk down into a life-size model of an amusement park. I'd love to see something like that.

Ugh...SMTAS Vulture. That interpretation of the character didn't work for me at all. There were a few villains on that show where I didn't care for them, but Vulture was probably about the worst of them (him or Electro). Even the 60s show had a better Vulture.

Yeah, I liked Spider-man TAS, but ones of the issues I have with that as well as X-men TAS, is that alot of people who watched those cartoons, yet have never touched a comic hold them to such a high standard that nothing else gets a chance to be better or even just as good. They seem to think that those cartoons are the definitive versions of the stories and characters. And should override any other interpretations.

I mean before Homecoming came out, I remember coming across people asking why Vulture wasn't stealing people's youth like in the TAS, when that was just simply a one time story from the comics that was used for the show.

I certainly hope the action with Mysterio is better than it was with the Vulture. Arguably my biggest complaint with Homecoming was the action

I liked the action scenes, but I do see room for improvement. Mysterio is a very versatile opponent so there's lots of opportunity for them to go nuts.

There was nothing forced about Vulture in SM:HC at all.

Anyway, when you think we may get Gyllenhaal and Keaton together in a Spider-Man movie, it's insane. The level of talent here is scary!

They were fine but I expect better in a Spider-Man movie. I understood they were going with the whole "Newbie, not experienced Spidey" but still. I wanted one really good aerial fight sequence between Spider-Man and Vulture and all we really got was the one on the airplane that was hard to make out.

I hope Gyllenhaal and Keaton get the chance to share a scene in this. :drl:

If Gyllenhaal really is on this, I'm sure a scene with the two will happen!

Yeah, there's a brief aerial encounter when they're facing off at the Ferry but it's brief. The action with Mysterio is going to be interesting. He can be full on illusions/holograms, or mixed with punches, etc.

That'd be awesome. Gyllenhaal is my favorite actor so seeing him act alongside Keaton, another one of my favorite actors would be sweet, especially in a Spider-Man movie!

I thought Vulture was such a great villain but, yeah, the action was a little disappointing. If anything just the visuals from Mysterio will make the action a little more interesting.

It's gotta be both. The third act in DOCTOR STRANGE was great because the action was interesting (rewinding the destruction on the HK street) and the visuals were outstanding as well (the dark dimesion with Dormammu).

I just hope Gyllenhaal can lighten up and do cooky as well as brooding

I still really enjoyed Homecoming but like I said, I wanted better action scenes between Spidey and Vulture.

Yep, the third act of Dr Strange is great. Very clever

I'm getting real excited about this. Mysterio isn't my favorite villain, but bringing him to the big screen for the first time ever is a great idea and could yield some fantastic sequences. Plus Gyllenhaal is just a great actor. I never imagined we'd get someone like that for Mysterio!

Although I'd like to keep my expectations in check, I did think about the last time a Brokeback Mountain star played the main villain in a superhero sequel - and that turned out pretty incredible. :yay:

I will compare Jake's villainous roles between this and Nightcrawler, which one is bound to be more fun.
Alexander Pierce was unknown or made up villain and was awesome .
I think he's from S.H.I.E.L.D. comics, I wiki'd the 90s Nick Fury movie, and he's the villain in that one.

Pierce is a relatively big deal in the Cap books, guys. Character's a little different, but they didn't just pull him out of their ass for TWS.

finally get a villain where I hope the writers can figure a cool way to show case Spider-man's spidersense ,

something we have never really seen done all that well before

but Mysterio is a great villain to show case the spidersense

Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr. Were in the Zodiac movie together so it would kinda be cool to see them together again, but at the same time I want to see a different hero in the movie like Black Panther or Dr. Strange
