Far From Home Jake Gyllenhaal is...Mysterio?

In terms of adaptations, I always felt the TSSM version of Mysterio was excellent. If they end up making the character similar to that, I'll be happy.

Agreed. I liked the TSSM version of Mysterio, and I also really liked the version of Mysterio in Spider-Man: TAS in the '90s. Anything similar to those two animated versions of Mysterio would probably work well.

There's quite a few of us with level heads around these parts. I may not share your view of Homecoming but your opinion is appreciated.

Appreciate it. The respect is mutual.

I actually agree with you, I cringe when I see people claim it's the most accurate Spider-Man depiction when it's really REALLY not. Spider-Man is treated like a side-kick by Tony Stark and that is such a betrayal of the original concept for the character. Also for some reason Peter is part Miles Morales with Ganke as his best friend and has his suit gifted by someone else, doesn't make it himself. A lot of this version's supporting cast are INOs and Peter talks to an A.I. (thank god that didn't return in Infinity War, I hope it stays like that), Peter doesn't mention even once about Uncle Ben in Homecoming, not even Aunt May mentions him when Peter's about to go to the dance. The best part, the absolute best part of the film is the part where Peter faces Vulture on his own with his homemade suit and we get that incredible scene where Peter lifts the debris, straight outta "If this be my destiny". Only problem? They use a Tony Stark line to give him inspiration......not.... oh I don't know Uncle Ben? Perfect time to use the "With great power, comes great responsibility" line. What a wasted opportunity. But you know, greatest Spider-Man on screen right?
THIS and other things too!!! I'm not gonna dig deeper into everything what I find WRONG with this movie, but yeah, not what I wanted from a Spider-Man movie at all, except a few things that were indeed, done right.

I'm really curious as to why he signed on. Hopefully it's not just 1 appearance and kaput

And you're saying you're level-headed?

Jk. :yay:

It sucks...we probably won't see anything from this film for a while in terms of anything official. The speculation is nice but maybe I've been on SHH too long or it's just a drought. At this point I'm just excited to see Jake in the suit kill it as Mysterio/Quentin, whichever way they play it. Expect them to divert, expect them to stay classic, bit of both, like the MCU always has.

At this point, a pic of Mysterio is sort of all I want.

You're wanting a faithful adaption or something different but translated like Vulture's design?

I want a modern take on it, but I still want the classic elements. So it has to have some form of cape (though it can be something that evokes cape but isn't a cape), some form of crystal ball for a head, etc.

Opinions will vary :hyper:

I guess the wait for hearing more about this is kind of a drag however I've got plenty of Spidey goodness to keep me entertained. Between the video game coming out next week and the reinvigorating writing of Spencer on ASM--my heart is in a good place :woot:

'Tis very true. I'm more excited about the game than I ever was -- gonna be honest and say I wasn't that excited at first but all the cut scenes and character stuff with the swinging and action look so fun and awesome. I like the new ASM run as well, thanks to your recs but I will post more thoughts in that thread.

I would like the same. Exactly. Would it be better if it were more on the classic side or more on the modern side?

Going to be very interesting seeing Mysterio’s look. Quite a challenging look to get right.

Looks like my man Jake Gyllenhaal shaved. Assuming he was already filming scenes with beard or was there a certain something covering his beard before... :cwink:

It’ll look sick. Marvel Studios mostly always gets the suits right.
They have already got so many challenging looks for characters so right that the odds are definitely in favour of that happening.

I'm hoping we get a Captain Marvel trailer soon, but some FFH news would be even better. I'm assuming the Jake confirmation will be similar to Keaton's a few years ago.

I wonder if Mysterio’s presence in Europe hints that he’s somehow connected to captain Britain? Like maybe he’s detected that magic is due to make a comeback and he’s going to go over there to try to capitalise on it

I sure hope he has a big role in this. Not just a supporting role.

Same, I’m dying to find out what they do with Mysterio. There’s a lot of ways it can go wrong and some ways he can be the most incredible and iconic villains in the mcu
