Good call on the Asian part. I don't understand why so many hypesters act like white and black are the only races in the world. Asians are far less represented on screen than blacks are.

Harold and Kumar are shining examples of what you can achieve when you put 2 Asians toegether on screen. t: Just a shame there is only one Best Actor Oscar per year.

As much as i like ELba as an actor , i just wouldn't want him or for that matter any other non-white actor playing the role of Bond.
And this is coming from someone who Indian descent. Hell if they want a non-white actor for Bond , why should it be a black actor. Why don't we choose an Indian actor or a korean actor or a japanese actor.
Or even a woman.....

Bond always has been played by a white actor and i say keep it that way. QoS has alot of stuff working against it however Casino Royale and especially Skyfall were movies were they really had a solid story and excellent acting performances. Focus on those things.

As for Elba as a Bond. I say just go on a create a brand new spy franchise with him in the lead. Have the balls to do that. If SOny can pump millions into After Earth and White House Down i'm sure they at least have some money to do this. The first Bourne movie was made for 60 million or so and supramacy for 75 million.

I agree Sony should launch a new spy franchise starring Elba and just cast Henry Cavll as 007 .

There have been Bonds born in every decade, from 20s Moore to 60s Craig.
Should they go for one from the seventies this time. Rhys-Meyers would be my favorite then.
Or should they just skip that decade in favour of younger actors?

One "joke rumour" suggests Freddie Highmore. After next year's SPECTRE, Craig will do a fith film and Highmore won't take over before 2020, so calm down.
The question is if he will suit the role in six years' time. Right now (2014), he looks like this:

I don't really care for ONTD and the rest of Tumblrs 'phoney causes'.

They don't give a damn about the characters or the movies they just want some bandwagon cause to jump on. Even if there is a member of minority group in something they still complain that they don't like the portrayal usually.

I would like to see more diversity as well as more and better lead roles for minorities but I don't start calling studios racist, sexist or homophobes simply for not casting whatever actor meets the tumblr brigades token rights bandwagon gesture each week.

Many hypesters only follow the "cool" social topics and don't really possess critical thought. And right now the in vogue discussion isn't ethnic under-representation but the lack of black actors in leading Hollywood roles.

I think part of the reason Asians may be over looked in the west is because of Asian cinema. Perhaps people may not feel they are under-presented because Korea, Japan and Hong Kong have a particularly strong cinematic tradition and output.

Asians are badly represented in Hollywood in terms of roles they are offered which is why many Asian stars don't bother coming to Hollywood because the roles they get offered are terrible. Asians are usually either nerds, martial artists or comic relief.

Andy Lau is a huge Asian film star and entertainer who speaks English. Lau said he got an American agent years ago but all the roles he ever got offered were terrible Asian stereotypes so he never bothered going over to make a movie.

Ken Watanabe and Chow Yun Fat both play typical Asian stereotypes in their Western output.

It didn't look terrible back then (but I was like 12 at the time), and the marketing campaign wasn't bad. It's when you actually analyze the movie that the MAJOR flaws become really apparent.

Yeah. Again, I say DAD was Bond frnachise' eqiuvilant of The Five Doctors only with DAD it was too many easter eggs (and bad CGI even for 2002 standards), not enough plot while attempting to mash bits of the prose version of Moonraker and Robert Markham's (Kingsley Amis) Col. Sun.

It wasn't even the Easter Eggs themselves that were the problem. Skyfall had quite a few of them as well, and yet they worked much better. with DAD, the references were not well integrated into the narrative and thus came across as really forced. They were too blatant basically.

As for the plot, I actually feel like DAD isn't too bad until they get to the ice hotel. It wasn't great, but it was decent with an interesting idea behind it. Once we hit the ice hotel however, the movie starts to go off of the rails FAST!

Do you mean going in or coming out? Prior to release it was being hyped up as a return to a darker, more serious Bond ala Timothy Dalton based on some of the stuff that happens early in the film. It wasn't until people started actually seeing it that there was a backlash, and it was rather swift.

I think the film stayed above water a bit longer than that (although Jinx's scenes even in Cuba were terrible). It is with Iceland that it really becomes unbearable.

Toby Stephen's introduction is where things take a turn for the worst. He's a good actor, but that villain was TERRIBLE. Rosamund Pike would made for a better main villain, with Stephen's as her sniveling lackey.

Yeah, I can see his introduction being the point where the downward spiral begins. So a bit earlier than Iceland.
