James Bond: 007 - Spectre - - Part 11

I watched CR and QoS back to back the other day and by the end of it I was rendered depressed at how poor SF and SP are in comparison. The first 2 Craig Bonds are excellent, the last 2 are just *facepalm*

Yes, this! I find the first two easily better than Skyfall and Spectre. Even Quantum! It's like Casino Royale and Quantum set a tone, and Skyfall and Spectre were off of it, IMO

Jackman for Bond? I could get behind that. He's at a nicely mature age of his life to bring some experience to the role.

Funnily enough, I re-watched The Prestige only the other day - Jackmans accent [I wont say what accent just in case there is someone on here who hasn't seen it as it is somewhat of a twist reveal] is great in that.

Jackman can't be Bond. He's too old. Bond movies will be released once every 3 to 4 years moving forward so the next Bond actor that gets cast, assuming they want at least 4 films from him will be an actor in his early 30s.

More than likely that's what will happen, but I personally wouldn't have an issue with Jackman's age. He's 47, but in fantastic shape and arguably looks younger. Roger Moore only started the role at 45, and Brosnan was on the edge of 40.

I'd say he'll do a 5th film and they'll recast Bond for the one after which should be just in time for the 60th Anniversary.

I just don't want Craig b****ing and moaning this go around. It just comes across as unprofessional during promotion. Wait until after the movie is released. There's no shams in being honest at that point.

I was late to the party, but I finally watched Spectre. Even though my expectations weren't high after the reviews, I still ended up disappointed. The script was terrible, and the action was only alright. The Bond villain was sadly terrible. I would give the movie 4/10, and I love Bond. :csad: I hope they'll get a better writer for the next one.

I'm fine if Craig wants to leave. I'd rather he really want to do another film than just do it for the money. T

Wasn't the famous line something like "I'd rather slit my wrists" when Craig was asked if he'd ever play Bond again?

I'm surprised by the poll results, I definitely wasn't expecting to see anything higher than a 6 or 7. I'd give it a 2/10 if the poll wasn't closed.

This is actually the reason I say good riddens to Craig. From day one, he has just barely hid his disdain for the character. When doing promo for Spectre, he didn't even try to hide it, straight out saying during Spectre's press tour that the character is a dinosaur and relic that should be retired. The reason Craig's Bond movies are so joyless is because he clearly was not having much fun playing the character. Its time to get someone in there who actually wants to be James Bond and embraces the role.

I disagree that the films were "joyless." And yeah, Bond is kind of a, to quote Dame Judi, a "sexist misogynist dinosaur relic." It's kind of an ingrained part of the character, he's NOT a nice guy in many ways. Or, at the very least, he's an immensely troubled guy.

On that note: the sex scenes in the last two films have been beyond creepy. I thought they would never top the 'shower surprise sex/rape' from Skyfall but then they had Bond force himself on Monica Bellucci.

Yeah I was watching a review of Spectre on YouTube and the reviewers said it best. "That's some Sean Connery levels of crap right there, and that stuff don't fly no more these days." I mean in Skyfall it was creepy because they had established beforehand that he KNEW that Severine was essentially a sex slave, yet he just still waltzes in anyway and assumes that she'll want to boink him (and the scene is played a sexy and not creepy, which is also some Connery-era levels of crap as well). But you could have probably fixed that pretty easily I think by just having Severine invite him in, or at least make it clear that she knew that he was there the whole time, and was ok with it.

With this movie, it's even worse. First of all, it's right after she buried her husband and nearly got killed herself. Then Bond admits to her that he was the one who killed her husband, and THEN he forces himself on her, and again it's played as sexy and not creepy, ugh.

And what bugs me most of all is that CR and QOS both were willing to call Bond out on some of his more a-hole behavior, including his often callous treatment of women. But SF (as much as I liked it overall) and SP, forgot all of that apparently.

How do you know they didn't want Bond? Was it stated they didn't want to have sex, therefore implying rape?

The movie doesn't do a good job of establishing that certainly. And it would have been so easy to fix.

Bond's always been a bastard. He's not meant to be this pillar of morality. Even Roger Moore's Bond is a dick. That's who the character is.
