I saw a couple people complaining about Will Smith being cast as Deadshot on CBR.

I also saw people complain about Doctor Strange being played by a white actor even though he is white in the comics.

I've seen people complain about Storm being played by actress who is too light skinned.

I suggested Djimon Hounsou, but being in GOTG has probably ruled him out now. Which is a shame since he didn't really get to do anything in that movie.

personally, i wouldn't object to a non white bond, but, i would prefer a white bond, simply because that is who and what bond is to me. Just like i wouldn't want to see an asian guy play shaft, as an example.

All i was saying in earlier messages is that if we really had to go down that route were it was a non white, then just make up a new interesting character, that replaces a retired bond, to continue that character if you really want to continue that universe. I feel it's way too easy to swap a colour than to be original and make up new material.

Or why doesn't Sony make a spin off with another 00 that is perhaps female, black or whatever they feel.

If you want more diverse heroes, then go out and create the. Don't steal established characters and then act like you're meeting some diversity quota.

I feel like these kinds of comments would have already disappeared if they had been made by a non-moderator.

The problem with this, is that those new diverse heroes would be at a disadvantage commercially compared to the established iconic characters because they don't have the backing of a big name brand. And then their relative failure would be used as an argument for, "people don't want to see POC heroes," and the cycle of poor representation would be perpetuated. And most of those iconic characters are white because of the (racist) times they originated from. "Because that's the way it has always been" is never a good argument against change, imo.

I'm not saying Bond needs to change, - I'd be perfectly happy with a white Bond for the next go-round. But as long as James Bond is a believable cool, badass, suave, high class gentleman Brit, I personally don't care about his skin color.

So something should be done about the state of things. Criticize that. Criticize Hollywood's racist ways and try to make more attention towards that so change can come. So that the creation of more diversity can happen. It's not easy of course, but it's a step in the right direction.

It won't be fixed by making a previous white character black. That's just a temporary band aid and a step to the side instead of up. You're not breaking any barriers. There needs to be a fundamental systematic shift in the establishment. I know people can complain it's unlikely and it's hard, but I don't see why there can't be passionate people who truly care about these sort of things to make waves to make it happen. It's an uphill battle, but it's possible.
