James Bond 24 - Part 1

I'm not interested in a black Bond, or a black Batman, or a black Peter Parker, or changing the race of any other character just "because", anymore than I'm interested in a white Shaft.

A nice shakeup from the norm wouldn't be bad. It's one of the reasons why Craig's Bond was so popular. Though if they want to maintain the reboot continuity of Craig's Bond with the new guy, he'll have to be white.
Cavill is a lame choice. Bond deserves better. Realistically they'll probably give it to a lesser known that hasn't been tied to big tentpole franchises before, as theyve always done.

That's what I'm trying to get across. Just because the continuity was rebooted with Craig doesn't mean the next Bond will be rebooted too.

Fassbender looks a bit worse for wear these days. And his hairline has quite receded. Who knows where it will be after 6-7 years when Craig is done. :oldrazz:

Well, Connery did wear a wig for Goldfinger etc. As for the 'worse for wear' thing, Craig's weathered face makes him resemble Sid James on certain days in certain lights, but I love him nonetheless. :oldrazz:

Fassbender would be awesome.

Yeah I doubt it will be. The Craig reboot was a desperate measure because of how horrible things had gotten before it. Right now we have the most successful version of Bond ever. It wouldn't make sense to end it completely.

Henry Cavill is playing Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E which is the closest he is going to get to playing Bond since he auditioned for the role years ago.

I know right? Because we clearly have as many iconic black characters as we have white characters

If Bond was rebooted, then you can have him be whatever.

I just find the concept of changing Craig's Bond from white, to black, to white again, or whatever race...incredibly stupid and bizarre.

Thinking about it makes laugh, actually.

To see the last Craig film end, and the next film begin with Will Smith saying "Bond...James Bond" And nobody batting an eyelid :funny:

Hypothetical question - if the next Bond does indeed turn out to be black, does Moneypenny and Felix revert back to being white, or do we go with all black cast?

I kid, obviously.

Frankly, i would prefer the characters to stay how they are in the reboot, with Moneypenny and Félix as black, as well as Bond and the present M as white, anything else feels weird for continuity.

I just want the next Bond movie to be as good as, or better than, Skyfall was...

EDIT
But I have to say, if ever Bond's ethnicity was changed. I would find it very jarring.

Then maybe rather than grafting a different race onto pre-existing characters from earlier eras we should just get back to creating characters that can reflect our own times.

Philip Seymour Hoffman would nail Blofeld, especially the novel version.

Ian McNiece?

Gotta have to quote this:

The thing is, the only reason these characters were white in the first place was that comic books were created in a time when nobody would have printed a book about a non-white superhero (having female superheroes was difficult enough, and they were handled with something less than dignity). But nowadays, the people responsible for these characters are trying to make their properties as inclusive and welcoming as they possibly can, because everybody likes comic books, not just white people.

And i'dd also add that it's very rare for a new character to make as much of an impression as some of the classic ones.

That's all fine, but each character should be treated on their merits, with some sort of assessment made of how appropriate a given change is to an adaptation. Some characters' status as cultural archetypes is quite pronounced, and even a gentle subversion of that gives you something noticeably different. Shaft is an extreme example, because his "blackness" was the standout thing about the character at the time. Bond, though not the same, is similar in that he is an embodiment of the colonial Britain of a bygone age. I haven't been convinced that this would hold up if the character was changed to a cool black dude, like idris.

As I said a while back, this goes to what you consider to be the core of the character. For Bond, the core is clearly not entirely that he is white (as race arguably is for Shaft), but once you analyse it, it becomes difficult to retain the entire core while changing that element.

Those who don't think changing the race would make any difference appear to be content with a very simplified (you might say generic) view of the character: maybe that he's a British spy who drinks Martinis. That's not incorrect as such, but it isn't really what I'm interested in.

I prefer to not have Idris Elba as 007, but I can give you a Blofeld candidate: Ben Kingsley
I have a funny feeling that that decade might end up being skipped? It depends how old or young they want to go with Bond after Craig? If they want to start with someone in their early to mid 30's, they're gonna go with someone born in the 80's.
It would break the line, then. And it makes me sad.
It's just that I want Rhys Meyers for the role. He would play the character as no-one has done before.
And with him, they will have the second Welsh actor in the role. Could be a good thing.
If not, would you prefer another English? Or a Scotsman?

You bring up the 80s generation. How many British guys born then would suit the role? Radcliffe? William Mosely? Jamie Bell?

Radcliffe?! No, that is not allowed.

Radcliffe? He would be the shortest Bond ever. If anyone ever complained about Daniel Craig's height, then he would look like a giant next to Radcliffe.

I've got no problem with the next Bond being an unkown.. hell Connery was one. Lazenby was to and I wouldn't of had a problem with him in a few more flicks past OHMSS.

Just no nancy boys like Moore, Brosnan. There's a reason Connery, Craig are interchangeable now as 1&2 on most people's fav. list.

When reading Fleming's books, I always pictured the late Robert Morley as Blofeld.

Keanu Reeves for Bond. Though that would break the curse since he wasn't born in the 70s. I'm not even sure in which century he was born
