James Bond 24 - Part 2

Now I want to see a white Shaft. Same clothes, same attitude, same manner of speech.

Daniel Day Lewis could play the role seriously and it would work.

I want a chav Bond. He goes everywhere in a Hyde FC jersey, and every scene where he's not fighting or driving a car, he must be holding a pint or eating curry out of a oily foil takeway box.

Are we not getting this character in Kingsman: The Secret Service?
Also what is Hyde FC?

I wonder if it has been mentioned that Newman would come back to score Bond 24, I personally loved his take on 007 in Skyfall. But I am still partial to Arnold's long time gig as 007's composer since TND.

I like Arnold's Bond work, if only because it riffs heavilly on the Bond-scoring God that was John Barry. That being said, I did really enjoy some of Newman's Skyfall score, namely Brave New World, Severine, Modigliani, and M's theme [Voluntary Retirement and Mother].

I think Arnold confirmed a while back that he wasn't doing Bond 24

well if that is the case I hope Newman comes back then as I said I really enjoyed what he brought to the table so to speak. I really liked the 'breadcrumbs' track especially, vintage 007.

They're showing a James Bond marathon at the moment and I'm gasping for a new bond film. Come on sam!

The Sean Connery era was full of continuity, the first 7 films pretty much form a complete story, i vote for one shot stories, with some interconnected plot points.

Newman's strength in Skyfall is the ambience. 'Komodo Dragon', 'Someone Usually Dies', 'Quartermaster', 'Jellyfish' and 'Skyfall' stick out in this regard. 'Breadcrumbs' was good, but it was definitely Arnold inspired. Newman's Bond theme is most definitely present in the 'She's Mine' cue. Also heard during 'Grand Bazaar, Instanbul' and 'Enquiry'. It's old school and rousing. He also has lovely little variations of the Bond theme in 'New Digs', 'Brave New World' and 'Day Wasted'. I've never understood the lack of Bond theme complaint. There's also an unreleased Bond theme cue when the helicopters arrive to arrest Silva at the island.

I welcome Newman back to Bond with open arms.

Virtues are so boring though!

I wonder if they will reveal the new m is a spectre agent. I reckon they will. I hope they bring felix letter back in as well. I loved the version from casino Royale

I don't care who they get to score, I just don't want Newman back. His score was ok at best for me but overall I was left disappointed. That scene where Bond hangs off the lift in Shanghai and the music apes Zimmer is cringing.

Newman's scores during the action scenes leave more to be desired, but I do agree with Annefan that the ambience is his stength. His score during the non action scenes was well done.

I wish they would just have 2 composers ala Batman Begins, but that's unlikely.

As long as it's that and not like TDK. JNH was completely wasted in that. Hans was the star of that OST.

With Mendes directing, Newman is effectively a lock.

JNH wasn't wasted on TDK. He wrote Harvey's theme in that film. All the somber stuff in that score were JNH. Zimmer handled the action and Joker and Batman themes and JNH handled the emotions and Harvey. JNH gave the score it's heart. Sure people tend to mention Zimmer's Joker theme more, but JNH's Harvey theme was my favorite theme of the franchise.

And his absence was obvious in the TDKR score.

Newman's score was fantastic. Nearly flawless.

And I also agree that the score of The Dark Knight Rises lacked without James Newton Howard. He was the heart and emotion in the score of the first two films. With all due respect to the great Zimmer, of course.

Trying to basically steal a white character and make him black is racist, just as much as whitewashing, say, Shaft.

If I wanted to, I could make a disingenuous argument that the only traits that matter about Shaft are the same ones Loki ascribed to Bond: cool, charisma, badass, womanizer.

But is that true? No, there are things about Shaft's character that are hugely influenced by the fact that he is black, just as Bond's character is influenced by him being a white Englishman of old money descent.

Just want to point out... Shaft was originally white.
