James Bond 24 - Part 3

I can understand that. For me, it is more like the problem with the TDK batsuit. You have one of the best films involving the character, but they somehow screwed up the main character's trademark costume of all things. lol Now that I think about it, Licence to Kill is also that way - awesome Bond film that draws heavily on the Fleming books, but Bond wears horribly dated, extremely fashionable clothes.

Good points, but to be fair, a of License to Kill's elements were pretty dated, including the whole premise of the movie that feels more like an episode of Miami Vice than a Bond movie.

Also, I need you guys again. Please take 5 second to vote for me in the Deathmatch!

I understand the Miami Vice comparisons with LTK, but it is something that never bothered me. Since my teens I have always been more of a fan of the literary Bond and more mundane villains like drug lords and the like are common in the books, in particular the short stories. So yeah, it didn't bug me.

LTK problem isn't that the villain is a drug lord. It is that the entire film, including the drug lord, are bad 80s stereotypes. It isn't that the premise is Miami Vice like, it is that the feel is an episode of Miami Vice. It is all about the execution. For what it is worth, I like watching LTK. But that is because it is hilariously bad.

In some ways, the Dalton duology feels more like the beginning of the modern era than Goldeneye. The moment this clicked for me would probably be the laser beam on Bond's Aston cutting the police car in half during TLD. A big update on the classic 'manual' method seen in Goldfinger.

The first "modern" Bond is Casino Royale imo. The tonal shift is so vast, it is almost hard to comphend that what proceeds CR is the same series. You have to go back to FRWL to find something somewhat similar.

Admit it. The real reason you like watching it is because of young Benecio Del Toro and his zombie-like visage.

That is indeed one of the hilarious bit. I also can't get enough of the "ninjas" or the truck chase. :funny:

or the truck chase. :funny:
The tanker chase has got to be one of the best Bond moments in the franchise. Those two manoeuvres Bond make are hilariously good - leaning the truck on the side evading the missile, and also raising the vehicle upwards. And who can forget Sanchez's death. Top stuff.

LTK is awesome! :argh:

And if it weren't for Dalton, Daniel Craig wouldn't be so awesome, because he looked towards Dalton's Bond as inspiration!

Which is now probably what the producers don't want anymore....but still!

I quite like LTK. It has some very memorable moments. I agree that it really doesn't feel like a Bond movie, however. In a similar but very different way to Octopussy, it seems to belong in a different genre.

The soundtrack is rather forgettable, even though the gunbarrel music rocks. Sanchez is one of the best villains, especially coming after TLD's weak offerings. And that goes a long way in making the movie a success overall. The bond, (haha) Sanchez and 007 share is enjoyable to watch. Bouvier was a good Bond girl. I think Craig has eclipsed Dalton by infusing the Conneryesque swagger into his performance, along with the darkness. But there's still value in what went before.

Yeah, but a lot of the 60s and 70s Bond movies are also filled with contemporary stereotypes too. The Bond series has always been a bit of a chameleon, importing hip and popular ideas of the time. LALD had a lot of the trappings of a blaxplotation film and we all know about the criticism of QOS being a "James Bourne" film.

Maybe due to childhood nolstalgia, I don't notice the issues with LTK, but I love the film and not just as a bad movie like you and some of the others. I even love the Gladis Knight theme song, I thought it was perfect for Dalton's Bond, especially in contrast to A-Ha's The Living Daylights. But then again, my taste in Bond films can be a bit strange as I've never really gotten the appeal of TSWLM and some of the other really popular entries.

Like my top five very favourite Bond films are:
FRWL, TB (despite the underwater scenes), OHMSS, LTK, SF

With the list of Bond films I really like rounded out by:
DN, GF, FYEO, TLD, GE, CR

QOS I can watch for Craig's performance and the awesome clothes, but I find it middling at best due to the subpar plot and villains.

On a Bond-related note, my girlfriend and I are going as Bond and Vesper to Halloween party tonight. She's got the long black evening dress and Algerian love knot necklace and I picked up a shoulder holster to wear with my tuxedo pants, dress short, and an undone bowtie. (No jacket so people can see the holster naturally).

Got a real Walter PPK, well rather pellet gun? :D

I got one just before Mr. David Cameron banned one from ordering guns online :argh:

-LALD was tapping into Blackploitation stereotypes.
-Moonraker was taping into sci-fi stereotype and was a blatant attempt to cash in on Star Wars.
-QOS was a Bourne ripoff.
-Etc.

Bond playing to stereotypes/what's popular at the time didn't start with LTK, nor did it end with it either.

So will they take from the MCU this time? All the 00's assemble to kick Blotron's ass.

Based on the previous movies, all the other 00 agents might as well be wearing red Starfleet uniforms for that battle.

Or get a replica Beretta and go as pre-Dr. No Bond.

Nah, it's a public Halloween party for charity so I assume security wouldn't allow me to bring a fake gun in as part of my costume. I do plan on getting a real PPK in a few years, when I eventually buy a house in the country. I used to shoot for sport when I was younger and I would like to get back into it as a hobby. Also, hunting or shooting skeet is an excellent excuse to wear the Barbour jacket ensemble from Skyfall's third act. :woot:

Then get a classic G-1 Transformers Megatron, and go as Michael Bay presents: James Bond. You can run around all night going "No no no no!" and "Optimuuuuusss!"

Sam Neill as James Bond

LTK contains my absolute favorite pre-mortem one liner.

"Don't you even want to know why?"

Ice cold badass.

There are always a lot of rumors when it comes to the theme, even when there is confirmed info.
