James Bond 24 - Part 3

Well Famke Janssen and Robert Shaw were also technically "Hench" villains. And there was also Benicio del Toro. And they kind of gave Carlyle an excuse with the whole "cannot feel pain and thus can push himself harder/faster/stronger/longer/etc than normal men."

Grace Jones was fairly high profile, at the time of AVTAK.

Xenia was a terrific character, and the last great henchperson from the Bond series. However, I also enjoyed Gotz Otto's Stamper from Tomorrow Never Dies. He had presence and quite an engaging personality. I hope Bautista's character has similar 'colour' to the performance.

While he wasn't a physical threat, I also enjoyed Dr. Kaufman in TND.

I forgot about Grace Jones. Benicio Del Toro wasn't that known at the time of LTK in the way he is now. Nor was Famke Janssen. Not sure about Robert Shaw and whether he also became more known later with films like Jaws.

Famke and Grace fell into the bad Bond girl category anyway even though technically they were henchmen. I tend to think of a henchman more as the hired male muscle/ strong man type.

Jaws, Oddjob or Tee Hee? Along with Xenia, they were my three favourite henchmen, even though Tee Hee's claw-hands looked as fake as hell.

Tee-Hee was excellent. Good bunch of villains from Live and Let Die. Case in point Whisper. What a charming chap. He's provably still stuck in that case in the underground lair. :funny:

He was released actually

:p

I hope Bautista's character gets an awesome name, like Hannibal Fist or Murderous Chang.

The best henchmen names are short, snappy and seem to refer to a physical trait or an action.

Something like "Squeeze" would follow the trend.

I hope it's not "Hinx" as originally suggested when they were putting out the call for an actor to play the henchman. Hinx sounds too much like Jinx and rather unimaginative. It's like "Die Another Day" and then only a couple of films later, getting a song called "Another Way to Die."

I wonder if Bautista is going to be a dumb henchman or one who does speak and is more intelligent like Red Grant. What would people prefer?

Both Jaws and Oddjob were of the silent variety. And Patrice from Skyfall was too, for that matter. But he was bland and not exactly memorable. It depends. I'm probably leaning on the talking, intelligent side but with some special trait.

They would probably have to. They said "The goal is to find the next Jaws or Oddjob – a henchman so different to anything that has gone before that they will become instantly iconic in the film series.”

At the moment as he is, he's not so different to anything that has gone before. He'll need some distinguishing physical feature.

Nanotech, cybernetic enhancements, a cyborg limb? :hmm

Nanotech, cybernetic enhancements, a cyborg limb? :hmm

When anyone uses this :hmm smiley, I always think of Rodrigo now where he's pondering the fact that he's torn between his conflicted feelings of attraction and repulsion for his mother. :p I guess he's used it quite a few times in those situations lol.

Double or Die had an interesting pair of henchman who would lose a limb every time they faced off against Young Bond. I remember it that way, anyhow. I really liked what they did there. As for a cybernetic enhancement, they'd have to be careful if so. I'm sure Winter Soldier comparisons would be made.

Rick Yune in Die Another Day, even though he had a diamond encrusted face to give him an unusual appearance, was a pretty useless henchman.

Ah yes, the one with the sparkling personality. They tried a bit too hard with Zao.

is Lea playing the main villain, sex Bond girl or drama Bond girl?

its impossible to look at her without seeing Blue is the Warmest color scenes in my head.

grrrrrrrrrrr

Her gap tooth is better than butter.

I think Bautista's appearance is distinctive enough without having to give him robot limbs or a mask or something. Jacked up *****es with MMA tattoos are a dime a dozen in most of the other movies we see, but in a Bond film they are a rarity, so Big Dave will stand out.

But yeah, none of his usual hipster clothes.

I prefer the henchmen to be memorable by being well written. By having an actual personality or having great dialogue. I don't want a gimmick or a grandiose deformity. These Craig-era films haven't indulged in that kind of cheese. It's too late to start now.
