My thing is that the race chaning can be for lesser known characters. Nobody gives a roody poo about Nick Fury (even though he is a special case) or Wilson Fisk. I just can't see James Bond being played by anyone other than a white man to be anything more than a publicity stunt. Batman is a white dude. Superman is white dude (Dean Cain, again a special case). Storm is a black lady. That's just how it is.
 
I may have came off harsh only because I have a hatred for anyone that is close minded and ignorant and judges anyone by their skin color. But I will just apologize if I offended any one. However, I will say this I don't see a problem which changes in characters IF the actor can do the character justice skin color shouldn't matter. But the character was originally white so I get where' some fans are coming from. But sometimes I think it's more to it.

For example, if it were up to fanboys Elba wouldn't have gotten the role of Hemidall in Thor solely because he wasn't white ( some people were even boycotting the movie for this reason). I think he did a decent job with what little screen time he had. But it's a matter of perspectives. Anyway, I am off it because it mostly wouldn't happen anyway so everyone can rest easy. Bring on Skyfall nov 9th!

I will say that the Heimdall stuff was silly of people. It's Heimdall. Only petty people b****ed about that. How many people even knew who that was before Thor came out?

You didnt offend me. I just notice that sometimes people want to give people things simply because they feel it will make them seem more PC or "modern and assuage their guilt over slavery. Not saying you fall in this group but its a group that exists and one i find to be facepalm inducing.

We know Elba is a good actor and he could pull it off, but that doesnt mean he should get the role just so we can be more inclusive. The role should go to who fits the part and if it comes down to say Fassbender or Elba i would pick Fassbender every single time because as ive said he is a spitting image of Flemmings own drawing of bond so he has the look and he is a great actor. Fassbender might as well have walked off the page.

Personally id prefer Elba get his own leading character in his own property. The mans got star power and id rather him not be tied to a preexisting property when he has the potential to own his own property. Oh and Elba's Heimdale was the ****. He is supposed to get an expanded role in Thor 2 and i definitely cant wait to see that. I want to see him kick some ass!

agree completely - there are some very rare exceptions however where an actor fits the character perfectly regardless of race, I think MCD was perfectly cast for the Kingpin in Daredevil
 
Idris Elba would be fantastic as a Bond villain. As long as they stay away from making him look stupid (disfigurement, hair color change, etc), it's all good.
 
Would rather see Elba as a 00 but theres already Felix Leiter and Eve as fellow agents.... shame Goldeneye was too recent to refeature Alec Travellyn

Which is a stroke of genius IMO because it will now squash all this nonsense about Bond needing to be black. I myself am black and Bond is a White man as far as I'm concerned and that's how I want it to stay. If we want a black hero or whatever, then give us a motion picture of Luthor!!! Just leave Bond to be what he is!

Okay. Just reflect on the proposition for a moment before you introduce a lot of judgmental and unfounded aspersions to the discussion.

Heimdall's character could effectively be summarised as "tough guy". Elba might have looked slightly incongruous in a Viking Asgard, but in "Thor" it was given a less ethnographic feel, and he fulfilled the role's remit extremely well.

Bond is a fully developed character by now, though films occasionally forget that. To make Idris Elba into the same character, you would have to subvert things about it. Bond is not a blank sheet- a guy in a suit who shoots the baddie and gets the girl. The movies that are that complacent about the character are not satisfactory. So, you end up writing something different anyway.

Okay, fine. But why not just start from scratch? It would be less jarring, and probably last longer.

Yeah, even though CR is my favorite Bond movie, I'm glad Purvis and Wade are out for the next one. They are really hit and miss.
 
Hahah, people are talking about the next Bond already? Craig is signed up for two more, and hopefully one or two more after that. It's like David Tennant said once about playing The Doctor on Doctor Who. When you're in the role people keep asking when you're going to leave. When you leave they ask when are you coming back. We've got a film right here in the now to focus on. :funny:

They wrote the first draft(s) of CR and Paul Haggis did the rewrite for the shooting script. So technically, those two haven't always been that good.
 
I think Bond should stay white because he's always been established as a white Englishman (yes I know there are black Englishmen), just as Bruce Wayne, Peter Parker, and Clark Kent are established as white men and Blade is established as a black man.

I don't think an American Bond would be right either, FYI (strictly speaking Connery, Lazenby, and Brosnan aren't Englishmen, but they sounded it "enough" as Bond).

I have no problem with Elba as, say, Felix, or as a Bond villain (though I think I'd rather see him as someone who helps him).

For that matter, in an alternate universe, Daniel Craig could totally have been a Bond villain.
