i think some people like it and some dont.

we also have to remember that this is heavy scifi movie without any build in fanbase.

Personally, I think the GA paying attention to Avatar and taking it seriously is just silly.

Like FilmNerd said about the GA reactions to Avatar and Holmes, I asked my friend right after it was shown on screen, if he wanted to see it. He said "No, looks stupid". He's the most GA member I know. Rooting and cheering to ROTF and calling TDK "good but boring".

This is Watchmen all over again. The Incredible Hulk too. People are nerdgasming themselves into believing Avatar will be huge. I'm not a hater. Just stating facts. I have no doubt there are those among the general movie-going public who are looking forward to the film. But overall people aren't that nuts about it. Sorry. *Shrugs* No skin off my nose nor will I earn any $$$ from its success or failure.

Watchmen is different though, there's only ONE blue guy running around. And he's 1000% cooler than these blue Indians running around.

My prediction
Opening Weekend (domestic) : 70-75 million
Final Domestic Gross : 200-250 million
Worldwide Gross : 600-700 million

Jim Cameron is a bigger draw and is more well known than Zack Snyder. aside from having a blue skinned CG character, there are very little similarities.

i think more like King Kong. it had more action like Avatar. but didnt click enough with people to brake records.

Kong was still greatly successful, considering the horrible pacing at the beginning of the film.

This thing is being sold off Cameron's filmography and the technology. That doesn't sell tickets for most folks. Saying he directed the first two Terminator films is a moot point considering the last one seriously under-performed. Ditto regarding Titanic since a lot of the young movie-goers were in diapers when it came out.

Its the same as Watchmen in that the Internet was blazing a storm in anticipation. They were convinced that because they were excited about it, everyone else was too. Hence nerdgasming. I remember one particular webmaster moron said it was "guaranteed to do $100 million" during its 3-day weekend. I know...dumb....

Same thing here with Avatar.

It was considered an under-performer. Narnia ate a lot of its business.

Damn those $200 million domestic underperformers... Why couldn't it make $300! Peter Jackson, you loser!

Nobody's ****ting on that number. Getting to $200 million is not easy. But King Kong was expensive to make and projected (by Universal and box-office analysts) to pull in $300-$350 million. It didn't. Hence it under-performed.

Nivek Jamie always says that 200 millions is a lot. he also said it for Superman Returns.

bu people expected more from King Kong. it was not the event movie that is was meant to be.

i watched KK some hours ago and its good. but to long. thank god that Avatar has the perfect 2:30 runtime. :yay:

When this movie actually gets in theaters and is unlike anything people have ever seen, people will watch this movie.

Especially overseas where visual spectaculars always sell well.

This will have no problem reaching one billion world wide.

It will probably make under $200 million as it's overall domestic gross when all it's said and done.

Of course, I could honestly see this movie getting beat by the Alvin and The Chipmunks sequel.

I hope Alvin and The Chimpmunks beat Avatar.

It's not a coincidence Fox put it the week after Avatar, folks.

People love big event movies like this. I think it will at least beat 2012 which made over 600 million worldwide.

There's a difference though.

In my opinion, Watchmen failed because the GA were expecting something entirely different than what the movie actually presented....it was advertised as being directed by the guy who made 300, so most of the GA were expecting a superhero version of 300, instead what they got was a talky superhero movie( for the record..i LOVE the watchmen movie).

TIH , in my opinion, failed because the previous movie poisoned the well. People just weren't interested in a Hulk movie after the Ang Lee version.

Avatar on the other hand, has too much goings for it to be a total failure. Case in point...2012. It was probably one of the dumbest movie to come out this year, yet it's fairly succesful simply because of the SFX. People view these kind of movies as 'event' movies, and in my opinion, Avatar falls under this category too...the GA loves these kind of things.

i'd be surprised if Avatar made less than $400 million worldwide. it's going to be huge overseas. i'm gonna predict $500 - $800 million WW once it leaves theaters.

The stupidity of 2012 had absolutely nothing to do with the marketing. They sold it off all that destruction and special effects. That hooked audiences. The promotions for Avatar are falling 100% on Cameron's filmography of years past and the technology. That doesn't sell tickets. They can't get past the "blue people movie" trepidation.

Most people don't care who James Cameron is and what films he made 10-20 years ago. They care about whats put in front of them right then and there. This isn't hooking people.

I'll guess that domestically it'll make somewhere between $200 mil and $300 mil, probably closer to $200 mil.

avatar day should be 2 or 3 weeks before the premiere.

there was no a single person complaining about the 15 minutes.
