all summer Cameron was promoting AVATAR in the overseas markets. hes a master at that.
He really is!

As if overseas wasn't going fast enough we got China just about to open!!

Can I just say that I watched the movie in 3D and was severely disappointed? The movie was good, but the 3D lens just dimmed the color and saturated the image and the only 3D effects that were memorable were when t
he floating jellyfish landed on Jake, the snow/ash effect and the end shot with the arrow (you know what I mean if you've seen it)
. Otherwise it was just a gimmick. Color me disappointed after all the 3D hype. The movie I bet is much better in 2D without the dark glasses and distracting gimmick.

I saw a commercial for it in hi-def last night and thought it looked better than when I saw it in 3D. The effects like the one you mentioned looked outrageous, but the colors looked washed out a lot of the time.

Nope, he's gone on a permanant basis now.

Wow that was quick, I've been away from my computer for a week and he's done. lol.

But man these numbers are amazing me, I just guess I did not care for the movie, but it seems the world is tickled with it.

what i like about the lighting in this movie is that its 100% cinematic in every shot. even the ambient room where Jake wakes up has a cinematic feeling IMO.

I read that for the CGI scenes Cameron did the lighting as if they were shooting at an actual location meaning that if Pandora was real and he was filming there then he would want lights in certain positions just like when shooting the live action stuff.

This movie is TANKING so badly, I mean 745 million WW, PSHHH, I can make that much in a weekend!!!:o:oldrazz:;):D:D:D:up:

just wondering, has anyone seen it in IMAX 3d , and on a regular screen in 3D? obviously IMAX would be better, but is it still cool and stuff on a regular screen? ive seen in on imax and it was incredible, but now its sold out for the next like 5 days.

Man, if I were Cameron I'd be on an emotional high. To come out the gate after a 10 year hiatus, and following the most successful movie of all time....and STILL reign over everyone, that's just astounding.

It's even funnier because play-by-play this is almost exactly how the scenario for Titanic was. I don't even know why doubters keep testing Jim. But I suppose it's great because I'm sure it drives him to cook up that humble pie. And he sure served a big one this time around. :funny:

So if Avatar beats Titanic at the Box Office... will James Cameron send himself a congratulatory drawing?

That is one, big, egotastic circle jerk over the decades.

The highlight of yesterday's box office is that the number one film, Avatar, surpasses Star Trek's $257.7 million total to become one of the five most successful releases of 2009. Its running tally of $268.9 million means it will dart ahead of The Hangover and New Moon the fourth biggest earner of 2009 by the time you read this.

Avatar will also beat Up and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by the close of business Saturday to become the #2 release of 2009. It is also all but certain at this point to gain the other $100 million needed to surpass Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to become the ultimate winner of 2009 domestically. It is a mortal lock to do so in terms of worldwide revenue, as it has roughly $700 million already in the bank, needing only $235 million more to catch Half-Blood Prince's current leading tally of $934 million.

By the end of the first quarter of 2010, there will be exactly five films that have ever earned a billion dollars worldwide. James Cameron will have made two of them. $1.133 billion is the line of demarcation Avatar faces in order to surpass The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King to become the single most popular film in global box office history. Right now, I think it's 80% likely that Cameron winds up with the two biggest worldwide releases ever. Just think: six weeks ago, a ton of BOP readers thought it was nuts to believe this title could earn as much as $250 million domestically. It's amazing how quickly these things can change during the holiday box office period. Avatar went from a strong opening weekend to a record scorching pace in less than ten days.

In terms of where Avatar goes from here, I'm going to hold off on this analysis until next Tuesday's 12 Days of Box Office recap column. It's New Year's Eve and I don't want to be weighing you down with a ton of math and stats when you're ready to get the champagne flowing. So, have a nice evening and a great New Year's Day full of bowl games.

Combined top box office for the top 12 yesterday was around $57.3 million (including Did You Hear about the Morgans, which didn't have confirmed numbers when I made the chart). I had a concluding paragraph about this yesterday that the database lost. The gist of it was that Tuesday's top 12 combined box office tally was $58,242,820. So, we're down about 1.7% on Wednesday. What is remarkable about these massive numbers is that last Tuesday and Wednesday had top 12 box office totals of $28.0 million and $46.4 million, respectively. We are up a full $41.1 million, an average of over $20 million a day, from last week.

BOP always discusses the expanding box office pie and how the popularity of one title doesn't infringe on the potential appeal of others. This is a perfect example of such behavior. All of the releases from last week that didn't have Christmas in the title are up from last week save for the one that debuted last Wednesday, The Squeakquel. This is despite several new high profile titles such as Sherlock Holmes and It's Complicated being added into the marketplace. At this time of year, movie releases are not an either/or proposition. Consumers can pick and choose whichever ones appeal to them.

Finally saw Avatar in 3D today, and absolutely loved it.

The film definately warrants another viewing or two.

I'd hardly call Avatar a Dances With Wolves. Two different genres and two different concepts.

But in all honesty, I loved the film. It's been a while since I've seen a film that was fresh, original, and actually took you to a different world. Cameron is a genius when it comes to special effects and what makes this even more amazing is how realistic the CGI looks.

I almost forgot that the characters, the creatures, and the world itself was CGI.

What's Cameron's next project? Because I'm not sure if anyone will agree with me on this or not, but it appears Cameron can do no wrong when it comes to a sci-fi film. As much as I didn't care for Titanic it's still a watchable film and how he created the Titanic sinking was great too.

Personally, I hope Cameron does something that involves a comic book character(as long as he doesn't write the script) or does a He-Man, Thundercats, or even a Centurions film. Moments in Avatar reminded me a lot of Thundercats with the images, the poses, and the realistic nature of certain creatures and advanced technology.

Oh my! Colbert has gone mad!

Kane, I may use that Colbert gif over on the Wrestling forum.
