James Cameron's "Avatar" Thread v.4

I'd just let it go. His argument gives him away as one of those spoiled fanboy types. That demand everything.

It's incredibly ridiculous when you think about it, wanting deleted scenes to be fixed up like the scenes from the movie...what's the point??

to be fair, the money has made more than 2 BILLION WW, they have the money to finish the shots, they just chose not to.

exactly and it looks like it was the studio's decision to not complete the 45 mins of CG, they dont wanna spend the avatar earnings on that its gonna be used to fund other movies

I understand that neil but it's the fact that they're not shots being put back in the movie, it's all throw away stuff. Why waste money(even if you have a massive amount of it)on clips that you didn't find good enough for the film. Especially after releasing an extended cut where you had to decide even more about which scenes are worth putting back in, as they did the first time around for the original theatrical cut.

I don't have a problem with the unfinished shots personally.
if it's a choice of fully rendered 45 mins or using the avatar profits to streamline the technology so we get avatar 2 a couple of years earlier I know which one I would rather.

Not sure i'm going to bother going the cinema for this, I will probably get the blu-ray though will be expecting more than 9 mins extra!

edit...damn triple post

I'm surprised there's not preorder option on Amazon.com yet, especially since it's release is only a few months away.

huh, check this out

Report: Avatar 3D Blu-ray Exclusive for Panasonic in December; Sony Gets Alice

Confirming earlier reports (see Blu-ray.com, May 23), HollywoodinHidef.com has it from a "well-placed source" that a 3D Blu-ray release of Avatar will be released on December 1, but it will be exclusively available with the purchase of Panasonic 3D TVs and Blu-ray players. In turn, a 3D BD of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will be bundled with Sony 3D hardware.

In February, Avatar director James Cameron had said to the Wall Street Journal that a 3D Blu-ray of the movie would come out in November (see Blu-ray.com, February 18). That was promptly denied by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment with a note that said verbatim: "3D is in the conceptual stage and Avatar will not be out on 3D Blu-ray in November" (see Blu-ray.com, February 19).

The exclusivity period hasn't been specified for either title, but is said to be "unusually long" for Avatar.

The (2D) Collector's Edition Blu-ray of Avatar will be released in November.

damn hype get it together!

At least i'm not the only one hahaha!

Looks like there could have been another James Cameron movie between Titanic and Avatar:

From what we know about the upcoming "Avatar" special edition DVD/BluRay, it's going to be mammoth. While no release date has yet been set, among the extras confirmed are an extended opening sequence, 16 minutes of new footage, 45 minutes of deleted/unfinished scenes and a documentary on the Xingu River Dam. But if that wasn't enough, there's even more.

Two minutes of test footage from James Cameron's aborted adaptation of Patricia Anthony's novel "Brother Termite" will be included as an extra feature. A satirical story about extraterrestrials who work in the highest level of government, the film had a script by John Sayles and Cameron began initial work on the project in 2002. For whatever reason it fell apart (our guess? budget) but its significant because at the time Cameron was already experimenting with performance capture technology that he would later use to blue people's minds in "Avatar." It will certainly be an interesting piece of history.

Bleeding Cool has a rundown of some of the other featurettes that are likely to appear on the disc. But if you want to experience the film the way James Cameron intended, buy yourself a 3D television and a salesman will toss you a free copy of the 3D BluRay of the film for your trouble.

S*** D:

Now thats what im talking about.

cant wait to buy that.

Theres also a wierd discrepancy.

The Extended Edition is supposed to be 16 minutes longer, but the BBFC rated 30 minutes of additional footage for the Extended Edition, so who knows what is going on there.

hmm well they did say that its 16 mins longer (with full CG) and 60+ mins of deleted scenes thats not fully done in CG

Yeah, but this is different

AVATAR - EXTENDED EDITION RERELEASE - NEW SCENES
Release date:15/11/10
Running time:30m 36s

This is basically the pool of footage that the Blu-Ray uses to "seamlessly branch" the theatrical cut into the extended cut. So instead of repeating 160 minutes worth of film, the only extra footage on the movie disc is the new scenes. This stuff isn't even on the same disc as the deleted scenes.

Im just curious as to why there is 30 minutes worth, when the Extended Cut is supposed to be 16 minutes longer.

any specifications on the DVD front?
