Superman Returns James Marsden Made the Right Decision

Anyone can see how Singer was able to give Marsden such a huge role in X1 and X2 that it was difficult for him to choose between SR and X3.... yeah right. Let's face it JM was not appreciated even before X3. Let's not blame Halle or Ratner for him leaving ok?

That means fans would have to admit that Bryan Singer's X-films had faults and that is never going to happen. But yes it is very odd that Marsden has a bigger role in SR than any X-men film.

I always thought marsden was a good actor, SR solidifies it.

R. White was played perfectly.

I will say I didn't like that we don't see him after the hospital scene, but I guess that's for the sequel.

its a shame that, due to hack writers, halle berry, hugh jackman, and fox that james didnt get a good role in X3.

Richard white was everything scott shouldve been. he even flew a plane like scott did in the comics

James Marsden was the true hero of Superman Returns and X3. God bless him!

^ and his long time girlfriend is in love with another man, just like the comics:supes: lol

I loved the part where he saved everyone from crashing down the waterfall just in time. I was expecting the plane to raise back up, but it still was great heroism on Richard's part.

Yeah good point...I didn't think of that. Superman had more of Cylclops than the entire X-Men "Trilogy".

As a Cyclops fan I was disappointed when Marsden left X3 for SR. But considering how X3 turned out and seeing the role James got to play - I now have no doubt that James made the right call.

I expected Richard White to be the "jealous boyfriend" stereotype with a minor part to play- I was very suprised by his significant and somewhat-complex role.

Good on you James. Well done.

I Still didn't see SR, but that's good to know.
I guess with Singer out of the picture Cyclops was doomed anyhow, so James probably did make the right decision...

I'm happy for Jimmy cause he finally got a role where he didn't get shafted, he really was Superman without the powers in SR.

You especially should see SR. Marsden's role is very significant and he gets a lot of screen time.

 :cyclops:

UGh...I hate having to agree, but I did like Mardsen. I found myself rooting for him, and liking him though I have been preaching for his death for a while. I still am actually, and a noble one at that. I just don't like that Singer alpha-sized the beta, so he looked better than alpha (Superman). But, in that respect Mardsen definitely made a good choice.

edit:

I also felt he got shafted in X-Men due to the extreme Wolvy love...lol...but I can't like someone totally who is stealing Supes Lady...that's contrary to my belief :)

I just saw SR tonight, and as a X-Men fan I must agree with OP. I too felt that James Marsden was underused in all 3 X-Men movies (along with the character of Cyclops, esp. with the pivoral Dark Phoenix saga in X3, but I digressed). I'm glad that Singer did not just create Richard White as an unsympathetic character who cannot measured up against Clark Kent/Superman, and as a matter of fact Marsden get to play as a hero and a good fiancee for Lois Lane. Finally, Marsden get to demonstrate his acting chops, and he shows that he is a good actor if given the right material to display them.

However, if not for X-Men's success, neither Singer nor Marsden will get to where they are today. I'm not happy that Singer didn't get to direct X3 (because X3 suffered greatly without the guidance of Singer imo), and I'm not happy on how Cyclops got treated in X3. I'm glad that both found continuous success in SR.

Right on. The guy got a bigger part in this film. More screen time & hell, he might've gotten more lines in SR than in all the X films put together. :o

He was amazing. I loved it when he jumped into the sea to help Lois pull Superman back into the plane and when he turned the plane around back to NK. He was heroic.

I loved that part too Lex. I kept saying in my head "Now THAT is Cyclops"!

I just saw the movie, I think I liked it, especially the part James tried to save Louis and Jason...:) he was great, I know most people think Routh is good-looking but my mind keep focusing on James....I'm a loyal type.
Still I think James gets too many times playing the guy who loses his girl for another guy , people here are starting calling him "King of the good guys", I certainly don't like that.:(

He didn't really "loose" Lois. She's just stuck between the two.

Marsden did make the right decision. His character in SR was better than what they did with him in the X-Men films. If he would've stayed on to fully do X3, his role still would've been worthless, as FOX wanted Wolverine to be the star from the beginning anyways  :(

I'm glad to hear. Too bad it didn't open world-wide yet - I really can't wait!

You'll love it. We finally get Cyclops... just in a non-X-Men movie. :(

Dude... Richard White thought he was Superman... honestly. "I flew?" Come on! The guy was solving clues and saving people left and right... and even SUPERMAN respects the guy. It's insane. I've never IMAGINED a supporting character being THIS COOL. Much less a completely HUMAN guy standing next to Superman being this cool. It's just insane. And he kept on getting cooler. To say Marsden made the right decision is an understatement at best.

Also, it puts in my head how the even more talented Batman would synch, working alongside the insanely powerful man of steel in a realistic setting.

Again, guys, it was just insane. Richard White was as cool as a supporting character could ever hope to be. Dear goodness he was cool.
