Horror James Wan's "The Conjuring"

Just got done seeing it and floved it. I think I enjoyed it more then the first film, it had some moments that kind of creeped me out which doesn't happen easily nowadays with all the horror films I've watched.

Thought it was as cliched and predictable as the first one. If they make a third one, i wont be seeing it. Seems like the best horror movies these days are the Independent ones.

Wan isn't recreating the wheel with these films but his control of the mechanics is damn right masterful.
Independent films have almost always been the only place really new directions of horror have come from for the last 40 years.

Saw it yesterday. Didn't enjoy it as much as the first one. Thought it was kind of boring. There were some pretty good scares in this one though. This movie was still much better than a lot of horror movies out there right now.

Does this mean it's more like his Insidious films?

Personally loved his Insidious films over the first Conjuring, love his nightmarish dreamscape type visuals.

I'd say this film is more akin to the first Insidious (which I will say was a good film).

Interesting. Though as I said above, there's a decent amount of evidence to suggest the Warrens themselves are hoaxes in real life, and that they were part of the group that fabricated Amytiville, so criticising a film for not being based off of a "true" case is somewhat suspect.

Go to their home and touch one of the artifacts. Report back to us.

I thought this movie was very creepy but I think the first one was better. A good follow up though.

Man, this was so scary, I couldn't sleep last night!

I rarely watch horror films but I liked the first one which was really good even if it freaked me out a lot and this was good too. And it was one of those rare moments in the theater where people clapped during the climax and after the movie ended. It was awesome! People really enjoyed it! I feel like watching it again in the cinema for the audience's reaction but God, I don't wanna scare myself again. But it was really good!

And oh I walked out of the theater as soon as I could, when the credits rolled and they were about to play the actual recording. God that was so creepy, I didn't even look at the pictures and lol there's 1 in this thread!

Why? What do you think will happen? Annabelle will kill him and take his soul to the Dark One?:funny:

What should the 3rd film be centered arond? The "Devil Made Me Do It" case sounds very interesting, and has potential to be different from the previous films, which have all been centered around haunted houses with families so far.

I really can't wait to see this. Trying to see it sometime this week.

I just hope they dont do any spin offs from 2 like what they did with Annabelle. [BLACKOUT]Crooked Man's screentime was enough[/BLACKOUT]

I was intrigued when the Crooked Man first showed up on that toy, but when he showed up later as a cgi monster it wasn't frightening at all.

yeah I wasnt either but I still enjoyed it.

My theater freaked the f*** out during that so I guess so

I remember seeing this photo before the movie and noticed how they tried so hard to recreate that room with all those posters. [BLACKOUT]Also I thought it was funny that Ed pointed out the same thing that many people point out in real life about the photo that she appears to simply be jumping off her bed.[/BLACKOUT]

They definitely took some liberties with the recreation in the film. It actually looked demonic with how her limbs were being bent. The real-life one is so blatantly a girl just jumping, it would’ve looked laughably bad on the screen.

It was nearly a jump-the-shark moment for me. By that point I’d already clocked out in being invested with the movie, and that was so completely jarring. I’ve no idea if they were going for the creepy because it’s so abstract vibe, but it didn’t hit at all. As with most of the movie. Really disappointed considering how much I’d enjoyed the first.

That's awesome to hear, finally catching it tomorrow. Seriously can't wait. I enjoyed 'The Conjuring,' but was personally let down because while great - it felt like anyone could have made it to me. What I love about James Wan is James Wan style, which I found missing in the first one. His creative surreal signature just freaks me the hell out in how he can bring images you only see in your nightmares to life and puts them on display. I love that. So it's great to see he has brought his creative signature back into it. One of the scariest scenes to me in recent years is from 'Insidious,' where the pacing man from outside suddenly charges into the bedroom, just the way he directs these scenes it's - right out of a nightmare. Plus, these kinds of moments are always what freak me out about people recounting their ghostly experiences. I had the pleasure of sitting in the audience where he gave an interview after the first 'Insidious' and he talked a lot about how heavily he did his research in asking people about their true life experiences, many of which he replicated in the 'Insidious' films. If I remember correctly, that scene I just stated - is one of the scenes he said happened to somebody he questioned.

For those who love true horror stories, definitely recommend 'Paranormal Witness' and 'A Haunting' - lots of interesting stories in both, both revolving around dramatic adaptation with interviews with those involved at the heart of it. For anyone who loves werewolves, check out 2x10 'The Cabin' - it's a different take on werewolves outside of the cinematic one and it's a take that I can frighteningly see as potentially being real (skinwalkers and shape shifter stories have been around forever); I'm not saying I find it to be 100% real and correct, but it does cause me to question that the truth on werewolves might actually be more out there than I thought before seeing that episode.

Crooked Man creeped me out more than devil nun. It was like an even scarier slender man. His shadow walking down the hall while he recited the poem was...*shudders*

To me this was the creepiest moment with the nun. Mainly because I have a long hallway in my apartment and the thought of seeing that at the other end creeps me the hell out.

Yeah that was creepy as **** too. Idk if you do this, but when I get really really creeped out my eyes water and I get cold chills. Its not a cry, but its damn irritating to tell you the truth. Well, when I saw that ***** at the end of the hallway I couldnt even take a breath, ****ing eyes watering, and chills all over. People can ***** all they want to about Wan's use of jump scares, but he excels at creepy visuals and unnerving moments of tension.

James Wan's jump scares freakin' work though. Unlike some other crap like the other side of the door or the darkness, there is so much atmosphere, tension, buildup and dread that I literally jump out of my seat when they happen. Then he'll do that trick he likes where you think the jump scare will happen and it doesn't, but then out of nowhere it's in your damn face. Or the one the jump scare you expect happens, and you feel alright, and then another scarier one pops out of nowhere. I love everything. Everything from the lighting and color decisions to the camera work (the use of long takes has become so damn effective in his work). I love the guy right now. Oh and that damn nun man. Gave me the creeps. Then I realized that was the same chick who was that scary homeless person in Mulholland Drive. Also imagine my shock at hearing the crooked man was not cgi, but a dude who specializes in contorting himself to make it look like he's in stop motion.

Unless I see raw behind-the-scenes footage, no way in hell I could believe that.

The Crooked Man in the upstairs bedroom towards the end of the movie definitely didnt look cgi to me. The outfit he was wearing looked like 100% real fabric. And the way he moved through the room towards the bedroom door looked like a real person. Even the best cgi in Avatar and Planet of the apes doesnt move and carry the weight of a real actor.

I could be wrong but Im thinking that was done with an actor. The first time we see him he looks like stop motion animation, but considering what Guillermo Del Toro has pulled off with real actors in real prosthetics and what Ive seen contortionists do I really wouldnt be surprised if Crooked Man was a real actor.

This is the actor that played The Crooked Man. Javier Botet.

He also played Mama in the horror movie Mama. And he was in the 3 Rec films.

I guess it was his unnatural movement that made me assume that he was cgi.
