Jason Momoa is Aquaman! - Part 5

The more I look at that photo of Aquaman, the more I'm liking it, to be honest.

I'm still a bit meh on Aquaman's look. The bedraggled hair, the various tattoos and asymmetrical armour all look a bit shambolic to me. I like the armour itself and the tattoos are fairly interesting (if a bit overdesigned), but I feel like tattoos don't make a great replacement for a costume. The overall look is far too messy for what I'd like to have seen for Aquaman. The hair especially. It makes him seem like a sort of beach hippie rather than an undersea king.

I don't hate the look as such, I just don't think all the elements work together that well. Also even though I have trouble picturing how they could have adapted his classic look I was hoping they would have came up with something that was more in keeping with it than this is.

I do hope this direction means they have a better idea of how his homeworld will be portrayed.

I don't believe that they are meant to replace a costume. For that matter, Aquaman isn't wearing a costume: it's Atlantean scale-mail.

Not literally. My point is there is no real costume as such. Just a few pieces of armour (which have a scale pattern, but are not scale-mail) and some tattoos.

It's hard to find conditioner at 20 fathoms.

Speaking of which, do you think that's how they'll explain his superstrength? Due to being exposed to such a high underwater pressure?

I remember Snyder saying this:

“The cool thing with Aquaman is his trident – people don’t realize that can actually cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. And he’s super strong, because of course he can exist at these super deep depths so when he comes up here he’s like… he’s crazy strong. Anyway, not to say he’s in my movie or anything like that but… he has the potential to be bad ass, that’s all I’m saying.”

Well that's been the traditional way they have explained his level of overall toughness. He's not totally bullet proof but he's quite bullet resistant, and he's very strong on land of course. He also has incredible night vision since it's so dark down in the depths. I don't think he should ever be quite on Superman or even Wonder Woman's level of super strength but if they showed him hurling a boulder or something many times his size at an enemy I wouldn't blink twice. But he should also be the most physically powerful Atlantean by quite a bit too.

All Atlantians are that way. Aquaman is actually a super-Atlantian.

It makes me wonder how Aquaman gets those tattoos with his tough skin.

I could see Aquaman gaining a costume when he starts to become more of a hero to the outside world if that ever happens.

The same way that Superman shaves ^_^

I see, thanks a lot for the info.

So they just have to figure out a reason for him to be stronger than common Atlantean.

What about this approach - he'd be of equal strength like other Atlanteans when under the sea, but will be stronger than them on surface, reason being that he's of both worlds and has gotten used to the both of them, while Atlanteans evolved under the sea and have tough time adjusting outside.

It might be very stupid, but in my defense, it's late at night and my brain isn't working at its best.

And this:

is a damn good question. :hmm

With heat vision? :p

That is how he got the tats... They aren't ink at all. Superman burned them into his skin! King Orin is hardcore.

Aquaman will get a solo film helmed by another director.
I pray that he hires a new team of designers that create another look for the hero, closer to the classic version.

They won't be slaves to what Snyder did, would they?

If Captain America changes costume for every film, why can't Aquaman?

I hope to see multiple looks for many of the DCCU characters. It adds a layer of realism. You and I don't where the same thing or have the same look every single day so why should the heroes of DCCU Earth? If it's an origin film in the solo then he for sure will have a different look. Other than Supes, Bats, GL and Flash the others should have multiple looks. I would love to see AquaMomoa in a regal gold scale mail shirt, but I love what we got too.

Just want to say that I think Aquaman looks badass and I believe this movie will be what will get the general public to take him more seriously. I can't wait to see how this one turns out. :D

Wonder Woman and Aquaman are the two Leaguers who could easily change what they wear. I think it would be kinda strange if they didn't and I'd be more than a little disappointed.

With WW I really want to see them go to town with putting her in a lot of different get ups the way Perez and Jimenez did during their runs. The "WW/Eagle" them should be incorporated but there should be a wide variety of clothing options for our Princess.

I actually wouldn't mind them always wearing the same gear, because that's what it is basically - gear, not a casual outfit. It's what they wear for battle, not in everyday circumstances.

If AquaMoa never ever wears that classic shirt in any scene (hopefully in battle or during showcase of powers), I will never forgive Snyder for this kind of disgrace!

Well you are guaranteed to see Aquaman in four films, one of which WON'T be directed by Zack so you have a few chances to see "your" Aquaman. This is coming from someone that wants to see every look practically. Yes... Even the blue wave suit... Hell, ESPECIALLY the blue wave suit.

I've got a question... aside from his brother, which enemies Aquaman usually battles?

Black Manta is his big one. He has great status as before the big retcons ect. he was responsible for the death of Aquaman's son. You can ridicule his look or name or whatever... Facts are Manta hurt his enemy in a way few if any of the villains of others heroes have even come close to. That event was the start of a long time of struggle for Aquaman.
