Don't get me wrong I used to like-ish rap back when I was younger, I've just moved on & grown out of it.

I'm just saying... there's a lot of rap in a lot of music. Are you saying you don't like rap with beats, synthesizers, and obscene content, or just "rap" in general?

I can't believe I'm having this conversation... But, I guess there are no punk/reggae discussion threads going on... :oldrazz:

About Everlast- Jump Around is a catchy song, as are Boom Shalach and a few others... but he just wasn't consistent. Don't get me wrong... I own that crap on vinyl and love it... and he has a killer voice and solid flow... but he always... and I mean always... seemed to run out of steam mid song, in terms of lyrics.

There is a point in every song he wrote with House of Pain, where you can tell he just was desperate for a rhyming word. It's good rap, but every song just hits that point where he goes from cracking kegs and spreading legs to scrambling eggs... :whatever:

That's when I bring up KRS-ONE to change the subject.

I was referring to his solo work, and I don't really agree with you about his consistency. But if that is indeed the case, atleast he didn't break down and take the easy route, as in, making crappy music.

I agree. Musically and vocally, he's always been solid.

But, when he's going off on how his life is like Taxi Driver, I really don't need to be reminded that the film starred Jodie Foster and Harvey Keitel... just to understand how he's been living in a living hell. :hehe:

I'll go with Eminem on the original thread question.

However, the hungriest and most awe-inspiring lyricist rapping today is undoubtably Lil' Wayne.

not at all...LUPE, COMMON and a whole lot more including Kanye who gets help would rap circles around wayne who is very one dimensional.

I don't remember if thier lyrics were ridiculous or not, but I always thought Onyx had some insanely cool vocal deliveries.

And some of the members of Wu Tang.

Just not the idiot who rapped about ice cream. :hehe:

Weezy is not awe inspiring. The only reason that people even know his name is because he's featured on every single song that comes out. I'm not completely putting him down, I do enjoy some of his work, I just think he's overrated.

Work ethic = amazing
rapping= meh

He has his moments though. There are times when he comes up with something really out there, but in a good way.

Hahaha, Jay Z has never invented a rhyme as clever and percussive as Eminem manages in a couple of words.

I will admit that I am not an authority on Jay Z's music, but that is because it is so boring and/or plain bad.

Though, yes, Eminem totally lost it. The end was approaching with that *** motivational song and then White America was cool, but gave you a nervous twitch like something bad was going to happen, and then when he did that SECOND song that sounded exactly like White America...PfLLll. :down

Lupe, maybe. Definately not Kanye. You can't be telling me the lines in "A Millie" don't consistantly blow your mind.

What the hell? :funny:

Jay is quite renowned for his rhyme schemes and wordplay, actually. Most notably for his use of double/triple meanings.

I like the fact that rappers like to pretend they are tough and then do the laughably kindergarten-like thing of giving themselves "names" like "common" or "little wayne"
I mean,seriously.....

Never been impressed at all.
"Biig pimp-in' Spendin' Cheese" :whatever:
So sing-songy.

Eminem is a little too Weird Al Yanckovic-y for me.
I like N.W.A., DMX, Chuck D...
But Eminem entertains like few can.
Plus he actually has some good music.
What was that sampling from ANNIE bull**** ?!?!?

Common stands for common sense, and Lil' Wayne is little . . . and his name is Dwayne.

I guess it's easier to focus on songs that doesn't showcase his lyrical ability.

If you're interested in what the "big deal" about Jay-Z is, look no further than his first album, Reasonable Doubt. Undeniable classic in the hip hop world, and it's probably him at his absolute finest.

Marshall. A focused Em with something to talk about is hard to beat. His wordplay and rhyme schemes are ridiculous. I'm sure you've all heard Renegade.

I'd put Lose Yourself and Sing For the Moment up against anything Jay has put out.

Rock Bottom
Stan
Kim
Cleanin' Out My Closet
Sing For The Moment
8 Mile
Rabbit Run

You must be joking if you think Jay is better than Em at storytelling. In overall longevity and influence in the rap game, Hov trumps him. But when it comes to both their flows and lyrical ability during their peak years, Em is untouchable.

And I'll just conveniently leave out the only featured song in his classic album, that he got murdered on. :o

Oh, I agree those songs are good. I was/am a huge Eminem fan but I could never really relate to the guy and REALLY get into his lyrics. Just when you think you know who Eminem is, he hits you with Purple Pills. I know, I know, that wasn't a solo song but I dare you to find me a Jay song(solo or collabo) as silly and downright stupid as Purple Pills. My only gripe w/ Jay has already been covered by Godman, and that's his need to rap about his possessions.

You can listen to some Jay songs and much like Nas, Lupe, and old-Luda; spend a few mins replaying a line trying to get both if not 3 of it's meanings. I respect and dig Em's flow and I could praise it all day but at the end of the day, his lyrics mean very little to me.

You're dead on. I can't even cite a specific song because all them are so well "written". Probably D' evils though.

You guys need to revisit INFINITE. The title track outshines anything Jay has ever done for real.

That's one of the reasons I love House of Pain actually. Some of his lyrics are just so "" that it's amazing.

The lyrics aren't that spectacular, he just has a faster, sometimes on beat pace. Jay used to rap fast like that all of the time as well, only better and still without writing anything down.

Hey can you guys check out my joints and tell me what you think?
