Oh, I'd love a Hawkeye netflix series. I'd even take he being part of the Agents of SHIELD team.
Marvel makes as inclusive a contract as possible that gives them as much leeway as possible while restricting an actor's ability to renegotiate and one that the actor's agent will accept. Hence, 9 film contracts (Stan) and contracts that allow them to use the actor on TV (Cobie) or multi film contracts for characters they kill off in the first move (Strucker). Even that kid actor in IM3 had a 3 film contract. They're just covering all the bases to their own benefit.
“There’s no definitive plans, but we have started talking and talking with Scarlett about what a Widow movie could be. Internally we’ve also started thinking what a ‘Hawkeye’ movie could be, how we could continue to explore the organization [which Samuel Jackson‘s Nick Fury leads] S.H.I.E.L.D, which has a pretty big part in ‘Thor,’ smaller parts in the two ‘Iron Man’ films and has a giant part in ‘The Avengers.’ [So it’s like], what would a stand-alone “S.H.I.E.L.D.” be like? It all goes back to the comics. Sometimes the answer is—when looking at a certain run of issues— ‘no way’ and sometimes the answer is ‘maybe, let’s continue to explore it’ and certainly with Hawkeye and Black Widow those are two that we’re exploring.”
IMHO, this Hawkeye is not interesting enough to lead a TV series or his own film.
How are you going to deal with his family, and what's he going to do in a solo series?
That would have been tough given that the Matt Fraction series wasn't written until after the movie was out.![]()
wow..good point too!Yeah, but Hawkeye was essentially defined in AoU, given he was mind-controlled for a majority of Avengers. They could have easily written in the Fraction backstory... But Whedon chose the family backstory purely so people would think he was going to be killed off. Ugh
Unless Whedon was actively reading the comics while writing the script, he probably wasn't even all that aware of the Fraction series. I have no idea which, if any comics the man is currently reading, and all the Fraction stuff was a very recent addition to the character.
He had been focused on Ultimates Hawkeye from the beginning I think. I wonder what fascinated him so much about that version because I feel like the Ultimates were the most "alternative reality" comics.
Agreed.IMHO, this Hawkeye is not interesting enough to lead a TV series or his own film.
Well I'm all for killing off the family and starting anew, let's get to that part of the Ultimates :P
Once again, I doubt it. I know Hawkwidow shippers really want that to happen but it's probably not, and definitely not in Civil War.
Black Widow's romance subplot went over like a lead balloon, so there's not gonna be any hurry to hook her up with another guy. And Hawkeye isn't getting a solo narrative anytime soon so there's no point in killing the family.
The Fraction stuff is very good but so are other versions of Hawkeye. Whedon literally chose the most boring Hawkeye- maybe he thought the other characters had enough flavor? Renner is such a great actor that he could do a lot more. And for the first time it seems like he is interested in doing a lot more.
