BvS Jesse Eisenberg IS Lex Luthor - Part 10

I have nothing nice to say about Jesse Eisenberg after this new trailer.

He's giving me some Riddler and Electro vibes.

Riddler and Electro were MUCH, MUCH more "over the top" than this.

Eisenberg's Luthor seems like a somewhat socially awkward guy trying to be charismatic, and a bit unhinged. I don't see anything super over the top about it, really.

Gesturing with your hands to make a point is something people do. I guess some people here have never met a businessman or salesman...

Yeah, Electro acted like a Revenge of the Nerds character. Riddler... I actually feel like Carrey's performance worked okay there for the character; it was Jones and the rest of the movie that were garbage.

I wonder if the reason Lex loses his hair is the reason Doomsday lost his...

I do that. I'm Italian. :oldrazz:

That's not the "over-the-top" ness that I'm talking about though. His lines are awful, and his delivery is awful, in my opinion.

His entrance in the trailer was really the start of my buzzkill. I didn't expect great things I've yet to see Eisenberg do anything different, but man it was bad.

I fear he could easily drag down the whole movie for me if he is like that the entire time.

Donner goofy Lex Luthor made money. Creepy but hammy and humorous Ledger Joker made money. So of course Hollywood is giving us a goofy, hammy, humorous Lex Luthor.

I think the awful hair combined with the voice and twitchy performance is why people think it's more camp than it actually is. I just can't get into what I'm seeing here right now. I just don't like the delivery of the lines personally.

That Lex fit those Superman movies, to me it seems like this Lex is out of a totally different movie to the rest of the characters.

Super serious awesome confrontation between Clark and Bruce happens, suddenly SNL parody Lex comes in. It was just super weird.

I thought his Lex was more arch than camp, and very deliberate about it in the opening gala scene. He wasn't really OTT in the rest of the trailer, though the manner in which it was edited probably made it seem slightly so.

Seems like he hopped out of an Aaron Sorkin film, which I imagine is the point. He's just representative of this generation's crop of young tech moguls who pride themselves on how against the grain they are. It's a nice contrast to the the mild-mannered farm boy and the billionaire playboy archetypes.

Personally I loved the dichotomy between Clark/Bruce and Lex. His manic energy and wisecracking just makes him even more sinister to me. Especially since, in that scene, I feel like he knows more of what's going on than either Clark or Bruce.

I don't mind Lex, though I doubt this manic behavior is the end all be all. There will be room for development in future films where we might see a change in attitude once he goes bald; perhaps blaming Superman and becoming the Lex we recognize in the comics.

The point is he seems to have popped out a completely different movie? I get your point about contrast, but if it doesn't fit it doesn't fit.

I'm hoping it's a facade and Lex isn't really like that, in which case I kind of won't mind it. But as I say if he is like that the entire time, man I'm gonna struggle through his scenes.

I actually quite liked his dialogue, the shouldn't pick a fight with this guy was good, and I think clearly shows Lex not only knows who both of them are, but knows they know who each other are as well. Though saying that shouldn't Clark be hiding his strength a little bit.

I'm referring to The Social Network when I say that. Sorkin wrote these fast talking, young, wunderkind type of characters. They were representative of the Silicon Valley breed of billionaires. And I feel like that type of character can work well when transplanted in a new context, because he provides a really good contrast to the archetypes we've grown familiar with. He's something different and jarring, but he's still very real.

But I'm sure it's a facade, as he doesn't act that way in any of the rest of the trailer. And I'm sure Clark was hiding his strength. Lex was just being Lex. Gleefully toying with our two heroes in a situation he's likely manufactured quite intentionally.

I agree. I can't help but think that it's all a "show" for the general public...the flailing about and extra hop to his step.

I like it, he looks like he's having so much fun. And I'm still going with the idea that he acts like a goofball in public, but is much more sociopathic in private. He sounds more creepy when talking to Sen. Holly Hunter in the second trailer, and downright psychotic with his "killing gods" rant here, which makes me think this even more.

But he seems the same twerp in every bit of this trailer, not just during that party. Even in scenes that heavily suggest he's not presently in front of people he'd be trying to fool with such an act he still acts like a ****in' dweeb. That's what makes me think all these apologist theories that he's just intentionally playing at being over the top are wrong.

He really doesn't, how can people forget trailer 1 (technically trailer 2) aswell, the guy talking to the senator was not the excited guy we saw with Bruce & Ckark. Even the line to Lois about the word 'psychotic' his demeanour was different, more sinister. I think some people just have a problem because they have a problem with Jesse Eisenberg. I've heard some opinions that aren't happy just because he wasn't their choice.

Agreed

I'm actually in the rarity that I've liked every live action Lex Luthor there's been and I love what I'm seeing of Eisenberg so far.

And in the last trailer, he wasn't. Heck even his line to Lois (which is a very Lex-like line btw) sounded more sinister and arrogant. So no, we're not basing this on nothing.

:whatever:

I can say with no hesitation at all that I despise the idea of Lex as Mark Zuckerberg from the Social Network. So yeah, I was always 100% against this casting choice. That said, there has been absolutely ZERO indication to me from any trailer or what not that my fears were wrong. Rather they've been all but confirmed.

So that's clear your problem is with the actor rather than the film's take on the character. Of course you're entitled to your opinion but you are wrong when you say he acts the same way in every scene, trailer 1 and the Lois scene in this one prove that.
