What I don't get is saying just because there is humor in writing the character that is the EXACT same thing as getting Hackman's Lex with Jesse. Because... We never ever have super villains that are quippy with bon motts and the like?

And... Was Hackman's Lex really like Spacey's? Honestly, was Spacey's Lex, outside of Posey as his moll, all that much like Hackman? Is Jesse's Lex at all seeming like Spacey or Gene's?

I disagree. Sorry, but just because the character has humor of any stripe doesn't make them the same, or the same in quality.

We didnt want a Comical Lex Again. We are gettin a Comical Lex again.Hence disappiontment.

Before you go for your trademark ****-stirrer insult ,Look around the Forum.MANY have concerns for Lex.

This pretty much. All they needed to do was give us what Rosenbaum and Brown gave us on TV.

We've seen enough of shuckster, cooky, mad scientist weirdo Lex over the last 4 decades.

Oh... Are you still a thing around here? :sly:

And I noticed that you claimed to like the trailer... Only to come in here to single out my post since you know we have a history. Notice... I left you alone even though I saw your post. But somebody just couldn't help themselves, could they?

I admit i couldnt help rubbing it in.yoir face that I was not the Troll you painted me as but my concerns about EisenLex were right.

Of course,I liked.the trailer.I had accepted.EisenLex wlf disappiont but was pleasantly shocked Superman isnt gettin shafted. That ALONE is awedome enough for me to ignote Eisemlex.

Do you think Lex is like this the whole time or when going full bald will be something different?

Going by what I am hearing...

Rosenbaum, Brown and for some reason Shea: Serious Lex.

Hackman, Spacey, and now Jesse: Comical.

So that actually means that you've gotten an even split of Luthors then? Is my math off?

And that's IF I grant that Spacey was "kooky" or that Shea was at all "serious". Cuz... I think Shea's is as camp and crap as it comes. There's nothing serious about his Lex. Spacey, outside of Posey as his moll, is really a lot more serious and menacing than Hackman, and you know what? I think Hackman is a GREAT Lex so I can't get on board with that anyway. The bombast and self regard, yes the humor, but also the ice water in his veins... Sorry, but that all screams Lex to me. I've seen Lex go from simple scheming master mind, to mad scientist to billionaire tycoon. It seems lots have just glommed onto Brown and Rosenbaum as the only Lex they accept because... Those are like the only Lex's they know. Jesse's got some juice in him as an actor and there are as many serious lines of Lex in this trailer as there are lines for comedic affect, at least to my eyes.

Shea was not nearly as camp as Hackman or Spacey to me.

Your "concerns" are not right. Because neither you or I have seen the film and please, go watch some reaction videos. See what others have said. I spent litereally all nite doing that. No joke. And I can't say there aren't any that were negative but there were also many, many that were positive about Jesse's Lex.

And the only thing you are rubbing in anyone's face is your usual bovine excrement, just as when you showed up with a name proclaiming one type of BS only to change it to another load of BS, neither of which I think you yourself even believe. So, surprise, you liked the trailer, but OH NOES, Jesse is BAD. It's a forgone conclusion. Sell that excrement to the tourists bunky.

Spacey's Lex had a bit more menace to him, but it read very much like an extension of Hackman's portrayal.

To each his own, but L&C is hardly known for it's serous, character driven scripts or performances. The L&C world was ten times the camp that the Donner film is to me and I am guessing quite a few others. Shea at best benefits from a lack of the out there 70's suits Hackman wore. :sly:

Spacey was definitely comical and kooky. His plan of a Kryptonite continent was so insanely cartoonish that it made Cobra Commander look like a shrewd and logical military leader.

The problem isn't that we have an even split. It's that we have never seen the version that TV seems to get so right realised on a glorious 20 foot high silver screen with a hundred plus million dollar budget.

L & C was campy for sure. But Shea's Lex was 100% the Post Crisis era Lex.

He had comical moments, but he always came across as an arrogant classy gentleman.

Like watching an imminent vehicular crash. You can't look away.

Don't worry man......I agree with u. Based on what I have seen in the trailers I don't like this portrayal either. Hopefully its like everyone is saying...its just an act and we see something more sinister and far more intimidating. I have yet to see a Luther on the big screen I have been satisfied with.

:whatever:

The same trailer that shows he's responsible for Doomsday and Lois saying he's psychotic. Lex wants people to believe he's a nice, charming guy, but he's not.

It is in the trailers, I pointed as much out to you but you ignored it.

Here you go

Look, her saying he's psychotic means NOTHING. Words are wind. And him doing the Dr. Frankenstein thing doesn't stop him from coming across as a twerp that any girl scout would curb stomp. That's what I'm getting at. Whoooo, she called him a psycho...well Lois knows best, I guess that settles that. Bull****!

I for one love villains who have a sense of humor, because it's a nice contrast when they do something horrific. Like the Joker for example...you are laughing at the things he does one minute and then gasping in shock when he brutally murders someone the next, it unbalances you.

I think Lex's bizarre sense of humor is a mask for the psychopathic brutality lurking beneath. We sense their is something not quite right with that guy but nobody would ever suspect him capable of doing the things he does.

I also like the hints that maybe it will be Lois who is the first to find that out. While the 'boys' are too busy fighting each other, Lois is the one onto Lex.

I like it :woot:

I think the Lex we've seen is how Lex acts when he's winning. He's done the hard work and come out on top but once he loses and has nothing (again) he'll be his cold calculating self.

That's how I feel. Also, I wish more people would wait and see what happens with this character before casting definitive judgements.

From what I heard I liked Jessie, I found him funny yet intelligent and intriguing.

There are some villains you love, and some you love to hate. I really despise Jesse as an annoying hipster Lex, so well done WB?

Well, that's for me another reason to disagree. One, I thought not only was Shea camp, but it's the worst kind of camp... DULL camp. And I was a big time fan of the Post Crisis Lex and other than wearing a suit and "scheming" Shea's Lex is at best a very poor attempt at that type of Luthor. And in my own view of the underlined... See I don't take Lex for a classy gentleman at all. The arrogant part sort of negates the rest. But that's myself. I guess I can see that other part but.. Nah, for myself what defines Lex is that he is a genius sociopath. He is the selfish yin to Superman's selfless yang. Those facets are far more important to me than what he wears, his social skills ect., though sure, that can play into things. Lex can't look like some homeless person and for sure he's got a nice streak of vanity, but genius and no regard for anyone or anything are what comes to mind with Lex.

I think Lex is playing two sides of the coin. I think we just saw one side of him.

John Shea, Michael Rosenbaum, Clancy Brown

All great Lexes.

Gene and Spacey could have been great, but they hammed it up way too much.

The animated Lex still had humorous moments. Like his secret bunker being under a barber shop. "Noone will think of looking for you here Luthor".

I rally think people need to actually view Hackman's and Soacey's performances again cause they both play it pretty god damn straight.

You didn't even rad what I wrote sigh, psychotic I said because he creates a ****ing monster. Tell you what just pick the parts you want to support your side and ignore everything else.

Oh... That's just the silly in you talking.

What annoys me is he's putting his own personal thoughts on Jesse as an excuse to why the trailer doesn't show him as deceptive, intelligent and psychotic. It's like me saying Wonder Woman doesn't look good simply because I have no interest in the character, fact is while I don't really care about WW she looks awesome in the movie (and hot :cwink:). I also hope her arc is a good one and I'm not gonna want WW's role to be reduced simply because I don't really care for the character. It's just wrong and silly thinking.

So glad we're not getting that awkward Lois/Lex stuff.
