I don't think many are immediately in love with it either. It's technically impossible to immediately love or hate something we haven't seen and know nothing about.

However, some folks (like myself) are seeing the potential here. The filmmakers obviously saw some serious potential in him, as well. Casting decisions like this are nothing to take lightly.

From a quick glance around though, it doesn't seem impossible for people to be immediately in love with the idea of Affleck playing Batman though. :oldrazz:

I see the potential (both positive and negative) for both Affleck and Eisenberg. I consider myself a pretty open-minded fan for the most part, so I feel comfortable discussing what I see as potential obstacles and downsides to certain casting moves without succumbing to the "THIS WILL TEH SUCK!" mentality.

Some people say mind over muscle. If that's true, why would he go to the gym? I thought he was all mind over muscle so why would he be building up muscle?

A suit looks better on someone who has a bit of meat on them :D I'm not saying getting juiced up and all that, but I can imagine Lex being quite vain and wanting to be ripped.

Maybe down the road this Lex will get his hands dirtier and step into the battle arena. We have to keep in mind there's a universe being built here. This isn't a one-and-done for Lex Luthor, and we'll likely be swing an evolution of the character just as we're seeing the evolution of Superman.

Exactly, they will grow together over the years.

And they will fall in love.

Whether or not Lex could charm someone's pants off never really seemed to be important until post crisis. And even then, initially he wasn't the sexiest bald man alive.

He doesn't need to be sexy to have a way with words. Apparently we all want a Lex that can get the people on his side and rile them against Superman. For that we need someone that can be a true Fox. From everything I've seen that everyone posted so far, I don't get the impression he can portray that type of person.

I still think DC and Marvel should make a trade. We give them Jesse and we get Michael Douglas.

Michael Douglas may be old but I can see him as Lex.

Actually I am hoping that Lex wins in this movie...like Lex had a scheme within a scheme wrapped in a scheme and while Superman, WW and Batman were stopping the obvious 'bad guy' scheme it was all part of the plan.
Think about G.I. Joe...a real crappy movie but...the obvious Cobra plan was stopped but the real plan was to get Zartan to replace the President.

Anyone think Ben could make a good Lex? God ****ing Eisenberg.

Hmmm. This gives Eisenburg's character to develop more, seeing that this would probably lead to another film. Nice idea.

and Superman goes to confront him and we get an exchange where Superman really can't do anything because he can't prove Lex was behind it.

Lex Luthor lives a dangerous life, has enemies, is involved in countless criminal activities. You guys are trying to tell me that such a person would not take the necessarry steps to insure his safety as much as he could? That his only line of defense is his bodyguards? That if somehow he ended up in a physical confrontation that he'd not be able to defend himself? Is it really possible that someone with such brilliance would not see the advantages of being physically fit and able to defend himself were it needed? Especially given the lifestyle that he has?
If so, than we just simply have very different versions of this character in mind, because while I fully acknowledge that his mind is the true weapon, I don't think I can ever make my peace that given his lifestyle, such a brilliant man would not take the necessary precautions to ensure his survival in any given situation.

Honestly, I am totally on board with this. We are talking about a young, ambitious Oscar nominated actor, but who doesn't exactly fit the physical mold of the typical depiction of the character... Sound familiar? On top of that, his nomination was for playing a smug, arrogant, sociopathic billionaire.

What I can't believe is how people around here accept the casting of some no name model with an acting resume the length of a pinky finger as Wonder Woman, but freak out over Affleck and this... Doe not compute to me.

And you need to be built like a brick ****house to defend yourself?

Of course Lex's greatest weapon is his brain. But he should also be able to charm your pants of at dinner, while at the same time he might order someone's execution over the phone. If Eisenberg can pull that off, great. But I have my doubts.

I think fans tend to over simplify the Lex vs Superman as Brain vs Brawn. I mean its certainly an aspect of the dynamic , just as the whole jealously thing is a part of it as well. For me, what's made the recent Rosenbum and Shea versions most compelling was the fact that they were dynamic , charismatic, complex, and charming personalities, and not just smart guys. If anything , that aspect has always been kinda secondary because filmmakers know that no one really gives a hoot if the guy is smarter than a living god who could break you with his pinky.

Now, if Eisenberg is just told to do his social network act then that's not gonna make it for me at least. I don't wanna see Mark Zuckerberg with a bald head. I wanna see Eisenberg surprise us and do something he hasn't done before and really become someone other than Jessie Eisenberg , much in the same way Ledger made you forget about 10 things I hate about you and A Knights Tale. Frankly, I want Affleck to do the same thing. I think Eisenberg has the potential to do it, my concern might that Snyder and the writers would direct him or write him as basically the same role from Social Network.

I'm not crazy about Gadot either. So far, only the Alfred casting actually made me happy.

Anybody piece together some cool GIFs with the interrogation scenes from Man of Steel and Now You See Me yet?

No one ever said that, ever. Just physically fit. Lex on Smallville was fit, but no one ever saw that until he was shirtless on that deserted island, when it was obvious that he had clearly been working out.
I'm not talking looking like a powerhouse, just not as weak as Eisenberg looks.

Which is why every President of the United States has been trained by the League of Assassins.

This Lex may not be that guy

At the very least he should be Downey's Tony Stark level of fit. With some knowledge of self defense. It does make sense for a man who lives as dangerously as Luthor, to know how to take care of himself.

I had no idea Presidents of the United States were all involved in Lex Luthor- like activities. Interesting to see how low your opinion is of the American Presidents.

I get you. But who says Eisenberg isn't in the gym right now? Who says he isn't having lessons in some of martial arts right now?
