JL Casting Call Update

Now, I know that I come into this movie with absolute loathe for the way in which it is approaching its characters, and the position it puts my favourite character (Batman) in, but with each update I hear about this thing, the worse and worse off this movie seems to be.

I can pretty much guarantee I'll be avoiding it like the plague.

Well, I tend to think we wouldn't even be discussed JL if Warners were happy with SR, but that's JMHO. Marvel doesn't even have a script yet for Avengers that I know about - correct me if I'm wrong?

I think that's right, it was the dissapointment of SR that led to this JL movie.

You and I see it as the most important aspect, but Warners apparently doesn't. They probably think the film will sell on the characters alone, much like selling Transformers on robots and fan nostalgia. In a way, I can understand the approach. I grew up with Superfriends on Saturday mornings; I would bet there's a HUGE market for just *that* audience among the GP. The trick is in attracting all four quadrants - a goal that even Bay and Spielberg had their doubts would happen with Transformers. To their shock, it did. But that was a balls-to-the-walls action flick - a HUGE crowd pleaser. It remains to be seen if Warners and George Miller can pull that off despite the lackluster cast. Trust me, I'm as HUGELY disappointed about this horrific cast as everybody else here. But I'm hanging in there waiting for an official announcement. Hell, I'm still betting the film doesn't happen LOL.

The thing is unlike in TF as you mentioned, they don't have the kickass never before seen Robot action to fall back on, here the characters are beloved and if put together with sub standard casting then that will tarnish it's chances IMO. Hell even the humans in TF were cast from good actors like John turturro and Jon Voight, to young stars like Josh Duhamel,Tyrese and the red hot Shia Lebouf. i think you may be right, this desperation casting smells like the original Corman FF movie and a write off.

You're preaching to the choir, Hunter. You don't have to convince me; convince George Miller. He's the one that chose the cast. Warners just gave their blessing.

Silly studio...

They won't take my calls. :cmad: :woot: I mean really, would it cost that much to cast Josh Duhamel and Tom Welling ?

Yea for me i am on the fence with this film yea i have *****ed about some of the rumor casting for the film but if these guys do end up being the real cast i will wait to judge the film once we have photos, trailers, and know more about the film. Who knows what Wb is going to do for the film but they should have learned to treat the properties better after catwoman mess and SR not performing as well as they wanted it to be. Hopefully the film is good but who knows right now since we dont know what is really going no with the script and we dont know the official cast and all that.

What part of "skimpy resume" verses "no resume at all" did you not get?
I read it clear. A skimpy resume is better than no resume, even if it does have a dismissal, not to mention the fact that the dismissal was early in the resume.

Just add this and were good to go. :)

...Over that ANY day.

Yeah but shortly after Zak was announced to write a Avengers script and also Marvel's plan for an Avengers, WB suddenly announces JLA. Screw TDK and MOS.

The justice league cast by caboose :o

Agreed.

Yeah, but the humans in TF were just that. They weren't "iconic" characters.

Ever since Donner, the philosophy seems to be to cast iconic characters with unknown actors and surround them with a known supporting cast.

They won't take my calls. :cmad: :woot: I mean really, would it cost that much to cast Josh Duhamel and Tom Welling ?
That a rhetorical? LOL I can tell you with utmost certainty that Tom Welling would cost ten times (and then some) what Megan Gale could even dream to make for JL. The dude makes close to three million a year just for SV. I'd venture a guess (I could be wrong) that Welling would cost even more than Duhamel to cast in JL. Not that I would complain, of course...

True. There's a lot of misinformation out there, and I'm not buying into anything 100% until I hear it announced officially. And even then things could change. Nick Cage, anybody?

I read it clear. A skimpy resume is better than no resume, even if it does have a dismissal, not to mention the fact that the dismissal was early in the resume.

As I said, getting two (or more) fans to agree on this stuff is a pipedream.

Nice red x, btw. :p

Out of curiosity, when was the Avengers first discussed publicly? The first we heard of JL was in February of '07, when it was made known that Warners hired the Mulroneys to write the script. I think by that point, Warners had a very good idea of where they wanted to go with their franchise plans. TDK was very much in progress, and I'd imagine Warners' investors were still looking for lost quarters in the SR P&L report sofa. :p

They both were announced here on SHH. I believe that had SR had Spidey numbers, JLA wouldn't be discussed. But I think that when Marvel announced Avengers, WB really got on their horses to get this done, hence the rush. Marvel announced they would do the movie after their heroes had all had their solo films released and then come together. I guess WB said the heck with it and they'll do it the other way around.

Oh! Avengers were announced a few weeks or months before it.

Finally! Someone else knows that! You'd be surprised at how many times I wanted to change avys but when I look at it, I just can't! :( Arse is so timeless! :hyper:

Joe Quesada isn't in charge of Marvel's movies. That's Avi Arad, and yes Zak Penn has been writing an Avengers film.

I can get past her looks because when she's in motion you don't notice a man face unless in certain angles. My biggest gripe with her is lack of a resume, and I know people say like 'Unknowns have to start somewhere.' Yeah they do, but big-name movies aren't where they start.

do you have even have a girlfriend. A man's face, some of you clowns have never seen or touched a woman in your life.

Man's face, you are a joke:whatever:

Didn't Joe Quesada say there wasn't going to be an Avenger movie. Probably because JL beat them to the punch.

He didn't say that plus as Shadow said, he's not in charge of Marvel. Just check SHH front page and see when Marvel announced Penn writing Avengers and JLA announced. At least a full month in advance before JLA was announced.

Well since this is a board filled with comic headed. I am going on the presumption his never since a naked woman before, good looking or ugly.
So, going by that logic, since you post on here, it's safe to assume you've never seen a naked woman, good looking or otherwise.

Didn't Joe Quesada say there wasn't going to be an Avenger movie. Probably because JL beat them to the punch.

No. That was from an interview with MTV, and Quesada was misquoted. He was talking about a Marvel Team-Up film featuring Spider-Man and Wolverine, not an Avengers movie. It might be a couple years away but Avengers will definitely happen, and if the casting on Marvel's first two films (Iron Man and Hulk) is any indication on how they'll approach it, it'll be huge.
