Joel Edgerton in 'It Comes At Night'

I was expecting Last of Us infected humans or infected humans like the things in the show Helix.

What is IT and why does it come at night?

Apparently...

Neither. There is no supernatural element to this movie. No zombies. No monsters. Just a virus/disease that is highly contagious and gives people a rash that causes fatal illness.

That's all? That's pathetic. Then why is A24 promoting this like a horror movie? And why call it "It comes at night" when THERE'S NO "IT" OF ANY SORT?! My god this is "The Vitch" (I refuse to call it by it's real name because of that stupid font on the posters and ads that made the "W" look like 2 "V's) all over again where they hype a movie to hell only for the title to be a complete lie as even THAT movie had no witch until the last scene!

If it comes at night, does it leave by day? I hope that's a sequel name.

W was written as two Vs and pronounced like a W before the 1800s. Its based on the roman V which became the modern english w and U. In english speaking society it had largely fell out of use by the 1700s but it wasnt uncommon in the 1600s which is the time period The Witch is set in. That entire film strives for period accuracy hence them spelling the word Witch the way it would have been spelled in a 17th century puritan society.

Similar to how the roman latin letter I pulled double duty for the modern english letters Y and J.

If you are pronouncing the word VVitch as Vitch youre doing nothing but making it seem like you cant pronounce basic words.

Also the Witch ate a damn baby in the movie early on so I don't know what he's talking about. If this movie is half as good as The Witch i'm stoked.

And killed Caleb, damning his soul and setting the family towards their last step for dissolution (and Thomasin towards her... conversion) but whatever.

And the witch was in the scene after it took the baby. We are shown the witch running through the woods. And we see the witch ensnare and kiss Caleb when he first stumbles across the Witch's hut.

MOVIELORD probably wasnt paying attention while watching the film, or didnt actually watch the film and is just parroting stuff he read in an inaccurate negative review.

So it's not a horror movie? That's good because I'm not a big horror movie guy but I was interested in the trailer. Curious to hear more reactions once it comes out.

1. No, I knew about that spelling. I was just mocking the movie for using that font for the logo. I know what it's supposed be pronounced as.

and 2. I forgot the bit with the witch being spotted taking off with the baby and seen with Caleb. It's been a while. Because otherwise, the movie might as well be this family driving themselves nuts. Unless the damn goat was the ringleader the whole time since that would explain it talking at the end about butter. Ugh. I'm not a prude guys; i just hate when movies get overly artsy like this. It gives me flashbacks about how much I hated "Drive". The Witch wasn't a bad movie like Drive was; i just didn't really care for it as much as everyone else did.

It's weird, artsy crap like this that makes me PRAY they don't get the rights to James Bond since they're in that bidding war. Between The Witch and this being not a horror film despite being marketed like one, I'm afraid it'll lead to a scene with Bond having an encounter with an ostrich that asks if he'd care for some tea and then has a musical number with it! :oldrazz:

Not on the same level as The Witch or Green Room but it was still a solid horror film. Just so, so bleak.

What is a horror film in your eyes? Is it a film that fills you up with a sense of dread? Because if that is the case, this is a horror film. Saw this tonight and it was really really good. The VVitch was also great.

This is only a horror film in the sense that The Road could be considered a horror film.

It like if someone made a new version of John Carpenter's The Thing, but without The Thing and just focused on a small group of paranoid people trapped together in a house in the woods. This idea has been done so many times in recent years, e.g. 10 Cloverfield Lane, it almost genre unto itself or cliché.

Not surprised by that score. My screening hated it after that ending. CinemaScore cards were passed out, and I'd usually pass on it but I felt compelled to put in my A-grade because others were definitely putting a failing grade on it.

I personally loved it. It's not the kinetic horror film the trailers made it out to be, but I think it was all the better for it as I loved the subdued take on its themes of paranoia and mistrust.

This is this year's VVitch. I hope it finds its audience on the home video market. It's a finely crafted film.

This was fantastic.

A more than worthy addition to the practically defining list of socially minded "horror" movies from the last seven years.

I guess he's not such a "Movie Lord" after all! :rimshot:

Just came out of this and loved it. I love character based horror. Man and fear being the worst enemy type horror. Really well acted and directed.

Tense throughout, acting and directing was superb. I loved it.

8.5/10

There is no way you watched The Witch and forgot that you saw a witch until the ending.

I went with a group of friends and left a little pissed. Then in the parking lot, we discussed the film and pieced things together. Now I convinced myself that I loved it.

My review...
It's a post apocalyptic horror film that is more psychological than physical. I feel like it's better knowing going in that it's no creature feature in the traditional sense. In a way imagine if Cabin Fever got rid of the goofiness and gore and made it more like The Witch. Also very much like The Road, it's a showcase on the darkness of humanity. The performances are incredible. While Joel Edgerton stars in it and acted his ass off, the movie centers on Kelvin Harrison Jr. who plays the son. What makes this movie stand out for me is the vivid imagery that is both haunting and atmospheric. It's movies like this that scare me more than any Freddy or Jason type character. Overall, it's one of the best horror films this year by far.
9/10

Yeah I had a crowd that walked away disappointed, sucks for them.
