Joel Edgerton in 'It Comes At Night'

Is this movie vaguely similar to The Trigger Effect in that it shows how desperation and fear cause us to revert back to our primal instincts?

There is no way you watched The Witch and forgot that you saw a witch until the ending.

Probably one of those guys who watches a movie while playing on his phone the entire time then complains about the movie lol

He must have been playing on his phone because you see the witch three times before the ending.

Haven't seen the Trigger Effect, but I just saw this today, and I would say this applies pretty well to it.

Enjoyed the movie, though part of me can't help but feel that the director valued theme over story so much that the story's coherence suffered for it.

What is IT and why does it come at night?

Judging from what people are saying regarding this film, I'm going to say that...

It's figuratively speaking. I think a lot of people associate the "IT" as in "something". I personally thought it was going to be a creature feature or something reminiscent. From the spoilers I read on here, I'm surmising that the "it" is simply paranoia.

At night, we often feel most vulnerable because of the inability to see our surroundings. As society, we've also made connections to darkness/night time as the time when evil "operates". I think that's what the company was trying to get at with this title.

I'm disappointed to hear about this film but, I still plan on seeing it. I'm not as hyped up as I was.

Soooo, no Tim Curry? :oldrazz:

Having seen the movie, I feel like "it" is

the "nightmares"/sleepwalking that occurs with the characters, possibly as a side effect of the virus.

But yeah, it sounds like a tacked on title by the production company in their attempt to mass market it.

I skipped all the trailers and reviews and went in cold and it floored me. I'm loving these recent horror movies like this one, The Witch, The Invitation. They really aim to punch you in the gut. They exude menace and nauseating dread and are almost entirely unromantic. This is the wake left in horror by There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men. It's nihilistic, but cathartic.

Nihilistically depressing. I gotta say that the dogs entire role seems entirely tacked on by a producer for marketing purposes.

The film was ok.

The movie is very much a physiological horror rather than physical horror film.

I'm someone who is fine with somber and nihilistic movies so the tone didn't bother me.

The movie generated atmosphere and tension well. The movie was well shot.

I think what really makes the movie devise is the vagueness and possibly people expecting more things to happen in the movie than what does happen.

Overall I give it a 6/10.

Potential spoilers!

Watched this film last night, and I must say I enjoyed it.
I thought the son Travis was played very well and saw him as the essential antagonist due to his longing/lusting for Will's wife Kim. Travis's lack of control over his crush for Kim (whom I assume is one of the first women he's ever seen outside of his mom) own fear, paranoia, and hormones helped enhance everyone else's paranoia and fear. Travis's actions and lack of self control brought down his own family and killed Wills as well. Overall this film was a great psychological thriller showing humanity at its darkest with a crushing blow of a ending.
