I've seen Depp in more recent pix...it looks like Father Time has finally caught up with him. Or maybe it's just a weight gain.
From all your whining about el maybe, I'm surprised you didn't realize sooner?Didn't realize we were all middle school girls
When were those taken? Those may have been taken when he put on a bit of weight for Black Mass. These are from a few days ago, and he doesn't look that chubby:

So is this as good as they are trying to market it as?
I want to see this but unfortunately my expectations have been set pretty high.
I liked it. Just got back and while I'm not going to say it's an instant classic or anything I'd give it a solid 8/10. It's a better attempt at a Scorsese film than American Hustle ever managed to bebarf
and that got oscar nom's up the wazoo for some inexplicable reason. It's not Donnie Brasco-level great but I'd put this about even with Blow.
For all the talk about how Westerns largely went the way of the dodo, so have gangster films. I can't remember the last crime/period piece film that was actually good so this is a welcome movie IMO. Depp's solid here, best acting from him in years. Edgerton as well was stand out. All the rest did good work. The story wasn't as cinematic as Joe Pistone's or Henry Hill's or Frank Rosenthal's(Ace Rothstein to you) nor any of the classic old time gangsters of yore but it was a story that deserved to be told and it was, competently so. I think the problem is that the well is kinda running dry on these types of figures. Most worth being noted have had their stories told already.
On another note, it made more on it's opening day than Mortdecai made in it's entire run and looks to make more in it's OW than Transcendence made in it's entire run. Possibly could end up Depp's highest grossing film aside from the Disney blockbusters and such.
That scene where hewas probably the most gruesome, ironic considering it was the least graphic. It just took the longest to happen.strangles the hooker

...because it has gangsters? There's nothing remotely Scorsese-esque in this film.
I thought it was solid. Performances and Cinematography were great. Nothing else was really above average, though.
