There are a few actors I'd be cool with, including Bettany, Roth, Lee, Gyllenhaal, Rockwell, Brody, Hulme, etc.. but a new name just came up and I really dig the idea. Paul Rudd.

Most people know Rudd from comedic roles in Friends, Anchorman, and The 40 Year Old Virgin. However, in the drama 2 Days, he showed range I didn't know he had. He's really quite a good actor. I really feel Rudd could be creepy, evil, and hilarious at the same time.

I found these Bettany manips on BOF:

I challenge anyone to tell me that doesn't look in the very least, formidable, creepy, and Joker-like. I always knew Bettany had the acting skills and some of the facial features (which I predict Nolan will exhaggerate a bit more with prosthetics), but damn these manips just set me over. He's most definitely my first choice now.

I havn't seen a manip of this Guy yet that looks like the Joker, and that changes my initial opinion of him. These manip's are impressive and well done, if he was playing a modern goth Vampire. As far as the Joker, I think he needs to have more going on than Green Hair, white skin, and Red lip's. at least Brody has Joker facial structure where he resembles the standard depiction of the character. This gouys face is too egg shaped.

Oh well, cant wait to hear when people are actually auditioning for the role, instead of this guessing game.

Awww, come on. He looks just like the maniacle Joker in the first of your two pictures, and with longer shaggier hair, and more convincing make-up (which Im sure WB will provide if Bettany is casted) he would look great

Alan Cumming would be a great Joker, the guy can act and pretty much cover all the bases of the character.

Dont know if this has been brought up yet (it certainly doesnt warrant its own thread so i'll put it here), but Andy Serkis has just joined the cast of The Prestige. Some fans think that Serkis would be awesome for the role and being in this Christopher Nolan movie certainly wont hurt his chances at it (we know that Nolan has a habit of working with the same actors over several projects if he likes the relationship). Andy Serkis definitely fits the bill as far as what kind of "name" he is. He's a proven talent and a very dynamic, versatile and chameleon-like actor who isnt a household name but has an impressive resume and is definitely on the rise landing these high profile parts. Not to turn this into a "SERKIS WILL BE JOKER" post, but this certainly wont hurt his chances.

I dont know if I could see Serkis as Joker. I know he played Gollum, but did he also play Smeagol in the flashback beginning of ROTK? If so, I dont think he'd make a very good Joker. Too short and pudgy if you ask me, though it's been a while since i've seen that movie.

Man, i'm all for finding an actor who's tall and lanky like the Joker, and sharing some facial features wouldnt' be a bad idea, but you seem to take it too far. Paul Bettany is fine for the role. I really hope you're not expecting someone like the guy in your avatar. That chin could put an eye out. I agree that basic traits like height and build are important in finding a Joker, but by no means would I cast one actor over another simply because he has the right length nose or right shape chin. I wouldn't dump Bale for someone else simply because he doesn't have the square chin. Who cares if he doesn't look exactly like The Joker, he's not as far off as Nicholson was (say what you will about his acting, but we can all agree he didn't look the part).

So we have read all the canidates for the joker and they all are pretty good and could happen. Such as Johnny Depp, Lachay Hulme, Paul Beatney, and Adrien Brody just to name the top 4. But i got one that no one has mentioned and I think he should be looked at. Bradley Cooper. This guy was in Wedding Crashers(my second favorite movie of 2005) and he deffinely has the look. http://bradley-cooper.com/fanlisting/

i say yes to bradley cooper..this guy can play a hard ass, and have humor to it..and still kick some ass..hed be great for the modern joker

Has anyone given consideration to if Zack Braff could pull of the Joker?

Not a choice of mine (mine is Lachey Hulme) but I just wanted to get an opinion on this.

I say No on Zack Braff, he's mega talented and awesome but I really think that Joker and him would be wasted on each other.

No way, he's great director and he's crap at acting als I haven't seen him on camera rather he's on behind the camera.

if Bettany does nab the role....then i hope he lets his hair grow a bit longer for Joker.

I also want to see him with a rather nice widow's peak. Something like Alex Ross's Joker's hairstyle.

ahh, no, not me anyway. Ross painted Joker after himself and Ross is an older balding middle-aged white guy. Thats the only reason Joker hgas his hair slicked back with a widows peak. I don't need Joker looking like some middle-aged white dude. I say let the hair be long and crazy looking, kept...but not perfect ya know.

I have also recently watched Oceans 12 and witnessed my first Vincent Cassel perfromance ever. I do have to say the man is very talented as an actor and that I think he can fake an American accent. I also think he was to in shape for the Joker. That guy can brake dance/workout with ease. His face is odd but not bad and his hair is curly as hell. with tat said I could see it but then again I can't. Who knows just how good his American accent can be he can deffinitly act.

I think I would refuse to watch the movie if he would play the Joker.

I not only hate his face and his voice, but he also doesn't have the acting abilities to play the Joker......he actually doesn't have any acting abilities for that matter...

Wow, some of these choices are getting really bad. Here's a tip: if you have to ponder whether anyone could "pull it off"; they couldn't.

1. Christopher Eccelston
2. Paul Bettany
3. Jason Flemyng
4. Jason Lee
5. Lachy Hulme

After looking at those manips of Bettany above, he's definitely off my list lol

The definite Joker, I think he should look ALOT like that but with red lips ofcourse. We need an evil menacing Joker, not another funny nutty Nicholson Joker.

You take away the funny nutty side...you take away part of the Joker.
