I think height is irrelevant. Unless there's casting Danny DeVito in the role, I don't mind if the guy is a bit too short. Sean Penn is my top choice, and he's shorter than the comic book Joker. But you know what? Comic book Joker is 6 foot 4. not many actors are that tall.

And I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I'd much rather have someone who doesn't look exactly the part (though Penn and Roth actually do look like The Joker in terms of facial structure, it's just height working against them) and can give a great performance, than some mediocre actor who's only advantage is being tall enough to look like comic book Joker more.

look harder "detective." maybe try the other 4 or 5 joker casting threads. Tim Roth's about the worst that i've seen so far. seriously, why don't you suggest Martin Short next?

This is a fairly ignorant remark, and I say you're just trying to be infmmatory. With all the ridiculous choices like Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler floating around, you think Tim Roth is the worst ever choice? Surely not.

Who's he a better choice than? Crispin Glover for a start. And he's better htan many of the other "favourites" too. So far, the only think you've said against him is that's he's too short. Surely not enough to make him worst choice ever?

grow up. i'm here because i care who plays the joker in the next film. i loved Batman Begins and i don't want to see you two destroy the series like a couple of schumacher-wannabes. as for inflammatory, the other poster called me an idiot twice in his post.

yeah, those choices are just as moronic.

i don't like his smile. i don't like his eyes. i don't like his voice. there's literally nothing about him that makes me think of the joker. and Crispin's a b-movie star at best.

Save your breath n00b, no one cares about their height. You're outnumbered. Give it up.

Batman was outnumbered to.

"My name is Jayme Karales, I was born in Boston and raised in Quincy. I grew a middle class child. I know what America is going through. Who better to run the country then the every man? I would work for the people by the people."

Flass, I'm really sick and tired of you. Each and everyone one of your posts is either "TIM ROTH FOR JOKER" or something incredibly stupid (much like you). Examples are when you belived Will Ferrel was the Joker (and you were willing to bet it), Red Hood would be in BB, and Selina Kyle and Pamela Isley were the 2 women with Judge Faden. You have no basis for any of those cliams or that Hulme is a mediocre actor. Have you seen any movies he plays a large role in? Hulme is one of my choices, but I've never said Roth is a bad actor. I agree with you that Roth would make a decent Joker, but please shut up about it. Also, stop the negativity about other people's choices. You're taking it far too seriously and need to chill. What we all think has little to no effect on who will be chosen. So you can stop the 100's of Roth for Joker posts. We get it.

I didn't write it, all I did was make him put me down as Vice President. :p

Even better. Your running mate has terrible grammar.

you admitted to being a necrophiliac? that's good. first step is admitting that you have a problem.

Hey, why the goddamn flame war! Enough with the insults, on both sides! Can we please stop talking about mother sex and start talking about The Joker again?

Anyway, Muze, before you completely write off Tim Roth, watch "Rob Roy". He plays quite possibly one of the best villains ever in it. I think he actually won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for the role. Go and watch that, and I think you could really get a better idea of Roth as Joker.

Although, as I've said, he's not my top choice.

Quit flaming. What's wrong with you guys? Some like Roth, some don't. Don't get so worked up over words on the internet.

Anyway, here are some Jason Lee manips:

And one of Gyllenhaal that I can't remember if I posted in this thread or not.

Although, as I've said, he's not my top choice.

i've seen him in Hoodlum, Rob Roy, Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, the Musketeer, Invincible, Four Rooms, Planet of the Apes, Lucky Numbers, Gridlock'd, Little Odessa, Vincent and Theo, and an episode of Tales from the Crypt where he played an artist who turns to murder for inspiration. seriously, i don't think Tim Roth is a bad actor. i just don't want him as my Joker. and if you don't think height matters, why was such a big deal made about it when James Marsden was cast as Cyclops across from Famke Jansen? :)

No, in all seriousness, I don't think height is too important. No, don't cast a midget, but average height is okay. Acting ability is far more important to me than lankiness. Sean Penn is my current top choice - even though he's more the short and stocky build than tall and lanky.

hey, if they can make Sean Penn into the Joker, more power to them. i think it's a risky move and i covet the right to skip out on the sequel if they screw up. i'm seriously worried that they're going to upstage Christian Bale. the Batman and Joker should be equally popular; ideally. but Sean Penn's a household name. he's infamous if you believe FOX news. that means that he's going to draw a lot of the press away from Bale. and, if he's not believable as the Joker then that's what most of the press is going to be about.

Come on! Holmes and Neeson got way more press then Bale and they didn't outact him in the movie.

Penn is a talented actor and knows his place, trust me just because he's well known doesn't mean he'll upstage him. ;)

I disagree. EDIT: With muze, not you Flass - you made your post before I could get mine in. Sean Penn is a respected character actor, not a huge superstar. Yes, he's a big name, but no bigger than the likes of Michael Caine or Morgan Freeman. Certinaly no a superstar like Johnny Depp or Jim Carrey.

So I don't think he'd overshadow Bale. The most common complaint is that he's a serious actor. As I've said: good. The Joker is NOT a funny character. Ideally he should be outright terrifying. And Sean Penn is able to give intense, unnerving performances that can capture that element of The Joker. And that's what we have to focus on - his acting ability. Who wouldn't want the Robert DeNiro of our generation in their film?

My only doubt about Penn is his friendship with Jack Nicholson. It is no secret that the pair are close friends. In every movie Sean Penn has directed, he's made Nicholson the star. If Penn is cast as The Joker, he may end up taking a lot from the performance of his friend/mentor Jack Nicholson rather than going to the comics for inspiration. But that's not really a solid argument, so it's not really putting me off too much.

Overall, I say Sean Penn would have the potential to be a phenomenal Joker.
