Very good ideas. Hammil gave the best voice but would be cheesy if they just redubbed an actor.

IS that the french guy from irreversable?

if it is do we really want a french sounding joker?

In all likelihood Lachey Hulme will get the part..but, I wouldn't mind seeing Kim Coates in the role at all.

I just hope the actor is RIGHT for the part and doesn't overshadow it(like Nicholson did). I always enjoyed his performance, but he just wasn't the Joker.

From a physical standpoint, this is how I'd like to see him. Wild, medium-length hair, but instead of the traditional grassy green, perhaps a greenish hue to it, more toned down(going along with Nolan's realistic take). And rather than having a smile frozen on his face 'ala B'89, I think it would be cool to have his lips deformed into the shape of a smile, and kinda leathery and scarred looking. Also I'd like to see a cross over his eye, but not make up, it would be a scar.

I think his skin should be kinda messed up looking, more bleached out than a "make up" look. Bloodshot eyes, emerald green. He should wear a black pin-striped suit, on which the stripes were purple but the accident caused the purple die to soak into the whole suit, making it have a 'stained' purple look.

I obviously took that drawing on B-O-F as my main influence, but of course the lips would have to be toned way down.

As far as story, I think The Killing Joke should be the main inspiration. That being said, I don't want the film to focus to much on showing his origins. Infact, his origin should be handled similarly to the Penguin's in BR. He should just show up and start wreaking havoc, and the Dark Knight should have to use his detective skills of his to find out who this wacko really is over the course of the movie.

My two cents. :)

I still stick with my decision for Crispin Glover:

Joker is a crazy, a psychopath in the likes of John Doe (Se7en) and Hannibal Lecter, and should be seen as that (the majority of Batman´s villains are like that).
No camp......no laughing gas.
Makes him a killer that cuts smiles in his victim´s faces, leaving them terrible disfigurated.
The Joker should not be a kind of "clown" that gets the audience laughing, but rather, everytime the Joker laughs, the audience gets a shiver down their spine.

But that's not the Joker.

You have to have that balance of humor and evil. The Joker is the guy you love to hate, not the guy you just hate. And that's saying a lot, considering the atrocities he's commited- yet we still can't wait to see him again.

Joker isn't just a serial killer. He's not the kind to sneak in your house and butcher you. He has delusions of grandeur- he loves the spectacle, he has big ideas. He wants to spread his madness across the whole city (country, world, if he got the chance). That's why he won't just shoot Batman in the head, because it has to be part of a joke.

Shooting Barbara in cold blood, killing Tim, there's nothing funny about these acts. But to cut that entire facet out of his character is to betray the character.

Dini & Timm got this. Their Joker could be absolutely chilling but still funny as hell, sort of charming actually. That's the perfect blend. Their Joker could've been a little darker, but I think it was a necessary compromise - the inclusion of Harley, the lingering connection to the Nicholson version (he was even refered to as Jack Napier in one episode, "Dreams in Darkness"), and the need to end every episode on a positive or at least nicely-wrapped ending, all made for this Joker to be a tad lighter than the comic version, but awesome and pretty definitive anyway.

I would use the Joker from the animated series (Mark Hamills) and use that as the inspiration for the live action Joker in the sequel (or one of the sequels). Hamills Joker I think is perfect. Make him more psycho and crazy in the movie, but keep the sick humour and normal humour and his charm and there you go.

Keep his cloths, but darken the green and purple, previously suggested.

I'm not sure who'd i cast for the Joker. I think Hugo 'Boss' Weaving would be a good candidate, or maybe even to a lesser degree, Ed Nortan.
