In all likelihood Lachey Hulme will get the part..but, I wouldn't mind seeing Kim Coates in the role at all.
I just hope the actor is RIGHT for the part and doesn't overshadow it(like Nicholson did). I always enjoyed his performance, but he just wasn't the Joker.
From a physical standpoint, this is how I'd like to see him. Wild, medium-length hair, but instead of the traditional grassy green, perhaps a greenish hue to it, more toned down(going along with Nolan's realistic take). And rather than having a smile frozen on his face 'ala B'89, I think it would be cool to have his lips deformed into the shape of a smile, and kinda leathery and scarred looking. Also I'd like to see a cross over his eye, but not make up, it would be a scar.
I think his skin should be kinda messed up looking, more bleached out than a "make up" look. Bloodshot eyes, emerald green. He should wear a black pin-striped suit, on which the stripes were purple but the accident caused the purple die to soak into the whole suit, making it have a 'stained' purple look.
I obviously took that drawing on B-O-F as my main influence, but of course the lips would have to be toned way down.
As far as story, I think The Killing Joke should be the main inspiration. That being said, I don't want the film to focus to much on showing his origins. Infact, his origin should be handled similarly to the Penguin's in BR. He should just show up and start wreaking havoc, and the Dark Knight should have to use his detective skills of his to find out who this wacko really is over the course of the movie.
My two cents.
