The irony of this is that Tim Roth always comes across as very intelligent, while Crispin Glover comes across as a self-centred buffoon.
I think Tim Roth has one of the best "actor faces" I've seen. Strong, piercing eyes. The hooked nose. Even his bone structure. Tim Burton, in an interview on the "Planet Of The Apes" DVD, goes on a tirade about this topic, talking about how Tim Roth is one of the few actors who can deliver an amazing performance even under lots of prosthetic make-up, because of his expressive face and manic energy.
We talk about this like Tim Roth looks nothing like The Joker. Facialy, Tim Roth looks closer to THe Joker than Crispin Glover. it's only in bodily strucutre that Crispin Glover has a greater similarity. in my opinion, the ONLY thing Tim Roth has going against him in being cast as The Joker is that he's only 5 foot 7.
I disagree. Crispin Glover plays creepy, twitchy Crispin Glover in all his movies.
Tim Roth, on the other hand, is an amazing character actor. From "Reservoir Dogs" to "Pulp Fiction", from "Rob Roy" to "Planet Of The Apes", no two performances are hte same. Even his villains are completely different, rahter than him having a set villain persona like James Woods or Christopher Walken.
And, on the subject of "becoming" a character, look at Tim Roth's work with voices. One of his most famous traits is that he is a master of impersonation. He has never used the same accent in two movies. His American accent is slightly different from film to film, deensing on his character. Same for his English accent. In childhood, Roth felt he was being outcast because he was well-spoken. So, he took a week off school, then came back with a perfect Cockney accent, gaining instant acceptance. he can do any voice. So, for people wnating Mark Hamil for Joker, odds aere Tim Roth could exactly replicate Hamill's voice for the movie if he wished.
Yes, nice pics. but as I've said, Crispin Glover has looks, and nothing else, as far as I'm concerned. He can look the part all he wants, but the fact remains that he's a mediocre actor at best, and is a Hollywood outcast on top of that, due to his bizarre behaviour. I don't think that's the kind of commodity Nolan will want working on his film.
I'd say Tim Roth is a far superior choice. He's a superior actor, and a bigger name. If only he wasn't so short...
