I want an unknown as the Joker. Lachley Hulme or Crispin Glover are not big names. A big name will overshadow Batman, which was done in the last 4 movies.
As far as the Joker's character, I want him dark, funny but not nothing the audience would laugh at or with. A serial killer with no remorse like Hannibal Lecter. THAT DANGEROUS!!!
Something that Batman must use his detective skills to track!

I loved Nicholsons performance. He brought what the Joker really is...a maniacal, cunning, comedian killing someone just to get the laugh . The problem I had was always wearing the make-up in public during the movie. I wanted to see the Joker with white face, not skin toned. But that wasn't Nicholson's fault. I also thought that he should have been a little skinnier. In the comics, the Joker is a tall lanky guy like Jim Carrey's Riddler almost. Nicholson could have exercised or gone on a diet for awhile just to loose a few pounds.

These are just opinions on his appearance. I felt his performance was flawless. It wasn't overdone like some thought. That's just how the Joker was.
