I don't think Sean Penn won't "outshine Bale" since Batman Begins is Bale's first Batman movie, in the second movie Bale will be household name as Batman.

I liked those movies too, but sadly Slater was pretty awful in them.

Yes, I do. :) Why settle for any less?

Well then what do you think of Penn? If there is ever to be a Joker in this new sereis, he would be near perfect in my opinion. Would be take the role on in a serious tone, I worry that Jim Carrey or Johnny Depp, may go for too much over the top Nickolson esque over acting.

Sean Penn isn't my first choice, but I DEFINITELY wouldn't mind his casting. It'd be great.

William Mapother. His look and his creepiness factor on LOST. He could be good joker.

Sean Penn is a great actor. The only thing is that Penn is the kind of guy who shies away from blockbusters. And even if he appeared as the Joker, he mgiht not want to come back for sequels...

Crispin Glover and Jude Law would be interesting, but I think Benicio Del Toro is the man for the part.

I am of the opinion, if it weren't for his age, Steve Buscemi would be perfect. Buscemi is a great actor. We all know he can play a wacko, but he can also play a phsycho murderous wacko.

Just look at what he did in the Sopranos. Absolutely fantastic acting of that character. Mix that character with his usual wacko roles, you have got your Joker.

I also think his look can easily be manipulated to look like the Joker.

I think Crispin Glover can portray the madness of the Joker just perfectly. Judging from his previous movies like Willard. I choose Glover!

Penn would certainly be an inspiring choice.......but i do think Glover would be willing to be in the 3rd film in more of supporting fashion.

God damn.

Cassel would be another great choice! he has the look down pat....and he is a good actor. He was the baddie in Brotherhood of the Wolf....and i believe he was in Oceans 12.

ok here are the top choices IMO for Joker.....

Crispin Glover

Lachey Hulme

Vincent Cassell

Sam Rockwell

Jim Carrey? No. Adrian Brody is a fantastic actor, but may be too soft-spoken for this role. I'm not sure he has the energy needed for this kind of role. Lachy Hulme, must be the best actor we've ever seen in some way. Otherwise, I'm just not seeing it. Steve Buscemi is more the Scarecrow type. Crispin Glover has the look, but the man has never impressed me as an actor. He's always very broad in his performances, and never really nails anything down, in what I've seen him in. Tim Roth? A good actor, not Joker material. Ditto Alan Cumming.

Honestly, for a sequel, given that you had Liam Neeson in BATMAN BEGINS, I think you're going to need a "name" in the role of The Joker. I think you need Jude Law or Johnny Depp. And I think either of them would excell in the role. As far as Joker goes, you don't need somone who can be spastic and funny. The Joker's real impact comes from when all that falls away from him, and you see what he truly is: and what he truly is, is not funny at all. And Jude Law and Depp are the two men who, I think, can best portray this aspect of The Joker, and make him more than what's on the page.

What's wrong with him other than him being the Riddler already? If that weren't an issue would you still think her wouldn't be good as the Joker?

No. Too spastic, too many quirks. I like Jim Carrey, I think he's a fantastic actor even outside comedy, but he's very...airy, I guess would be the word. The Joker needs to be someone with a little more weight to him.

and we don't want past series actors, so stop wishing for them!!!

Mr. Penn had always been an interesting choice in my mind.... though he may outshine Bale

sean penn is my dream joker but he won't be chosen, so then my next choice was Nick Stahl who played Junior (AKA THAT YELLOW BASTARD) he was kick ass in sin city he would be awsome as the joker. what do you all fink???

He would make a good Joker, I agree.

I think penn would make a good joker, if glover doesnt get it, glover has been my pick since day 1, but when you think about the name value in the movie the number of names, I think they would be likely to go with someone like penn, I would stand behind that a hundred percent, because I think he would do the role justice, he is my second pick for him.

Penn just has a look that would seem to play more to the Comic book variations of the Joker.

Also the way I see it Penn much like Nick Cage can realy really throw himself into a role, and I get the feeling his Joker would be more true to from then any other onscreen interpretation. Jack was great, but he was WAYYYY over acting, it was too over the top don't get me wrong, Joker is over the top should be, but he should also have his serious moments.

If they could convince him to do it, obviously one gets the feeling they could afford him, and haveing Gary Oleman and Morgan freeman already on board along with Bale, may make it interesting enough for him.

And many of you point to Britney Murphy as a possible Harley Quinn, I still say Balk is your best bet there, her performance in The Waterboy, and The Craft, have me convinced.

Murphy is almost too pretty, and realy almost too nice.

Balk can be beautiful

She can be scarey serious

And at times she can be down right ugly

Balk would be excellent for Harley. Don't forget how mental she was in American History X.

I think Craig Bierko just threw his hat in the Joker ring. In this weekend's edition of USA Weekend - the one that has Christian Bale on the cover - there's an interview with Bierko about his film Cinderella Man, but he adds something interesting in the final paragraph:

"Life is funny," Bierko muses. "For a while I thought all I wanted was a booster rocket to gigantic fame. Now I don't have any illusions about this business. I'd rather be the Joker to Batman - the type of actor who is always good but who is really there to make the star look good."
