Joker 'JOKER: FOLIE À DEUX' (Phillips and Phoenix return for the sequel) General News & Discussion Thread

stood away from any spoilers or the discourse leading into this weekend after all Football season is well under way
and oh boy movie not necessary at all complete waste of time

The puddles scene was the only note worthy scene but brutal to watch man like the movie was miserable

It's not five though, is it? Super Pets, Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2 and Joker 2 came in a row all lost or will lose money.

So in the words of Monica Geller that's:

Wow WB have probably poisoned DC for a good while.

The overseas actuals also came $4M lower, making it $77M.

Perhaps everyone will realise they are missing out and turn up in droves next weekend. Philips is laughing all the way to the bank with his $20 million.

Oh and dc had more flops then 9 flops within 5 years. The Kitchen is flop too. So that would be 11 dc flops in 5 years.
Only 2 dc films were hits, joker and the batman within 5 years.

The marvels happen around the time of the strike. I am sure it would still be a hit but it would have made more money if there was more marketing but because of the strike there was less of it.

Eh, The Marvels reportedly made Disney lose 237 million dollars, which if true it would instantly make it the biggest known box office bomb in the history of Hollywood by a comfortable margin. All that after a film that made 1.13 billion dollars. I wouldn't use the strikes or anything as an excuse for this abysmal performance really.

I think a big issue with The Marvels is that it came across and was promoted more as Ms. Marvel 2 than Captain Marvel 2 when far more people saw the latter than the former. Even the title The Marvels was bad.

I am not sure what marketing would have made The Marvels do better. It came out after Ant-Man 3 and Secret Invasion **** the bed and created the perception that the MCU is (to quote Deadpool) "at a bit of a low point". There was just no hype or excitement for it. I get the same vibe for Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts.

There are many reasons The Marvel failed. Sure, the strikes played a part and yes, the title didn't do the movie any favours. It also came at a very different time regarding superhero films and Hollywood in general and let's not forget that it had mixed reviews and word of mouth and that certainly affected it greatly.

But I also said that before release, people seemed to had vastly overestimated the character's appeal and how much part Endgame hype played in the first film's performance. You don't take such a free fall in box office with a character that hundreds of millions of people loved, resonated with and were yearning to see more of. No one seemed to really talk about the first film and Captain Marvel herself, they were largely forgotten and box office was a reflection of that too.

Sorry, but there's no functional way you can connect Joker Folie a Deux to other movies. Barry Keoghan is even younger than Robert Pattinson.

To me the ending to the movie was dumb. I get what they are going for but it also makes no sense.

The Multiverse Saga was not handled well at all. And it's been lackadaisical as hell.

The fact that any executive would make the same decision to make this movie shows what's wrong with Hollywood.

The marvels with better marketing and without the strike would have made more money. Could have still flop but would have cost the studio less.

Most of the mcu movies and other projects after endgame have been hits, not missess when it comes to box office and viewership and on average most got positive rt scores from critics and audiences. So deadpool saying the mcu has been miss after miss is just copying what certain youtubers(grifters) was saying and of course they are wrong. Then you have nicepool who disagree with deadpool. Let's keep it mind from phase 1 to 3 projects like ironfist and inhumans came out and folks even back then talking about comicbook fatigue and marvel is losing it's touch etc.. and that's non-sense and of course that was not the case. Most mcu multiverse projects in phase 4 and 5 have been successful, from the last spiderman mcu movie,to doctor strange 2,to loki seasons 1 and 2,what if and deadpool and wolverine all done well. The only multiverse project to flop and get a rotten critic score (audience scores was really high but the cinemascore was a B)and to flop was ant-man 3 and even that made it's money back later that year after it left the big screen. Most of phase 4 and 5 are not multiverse projects anyway just like most projects from phase 1 to 3 were not dealing with the infinity stones. Most of the marvels movie is not multiverse and when they did show it was a end credit scene.

It was never intended to connect to any other Batman movies.

wait, people actually believe this is supposed to lead into one of the other Batman franchises?? Come on now. If anything, it was a little homage to Ledger, but I think even that is a stretch. I don’t think the guy at the end is supposed to be any particular version of Joker from the past

It just seems like people wanted a new cinematic universe and Phillips stuck to his guns, again, and said 'no.'

I think the box office seems reasonable; it's just that they spent $200 million making the damn thing

How is it reasonable coming after a movie that did 1.1 billion dollars? Even if the budget was 50 million dollars like in the first film it would barely see some profit.
