This is what happens when you green-light sequels no one asked for.
At least we got Harlequin out of it.
Wow WB have probably poisoned DC for a good while. It's not five though, is it? Super Pets, Black Adam, Shazam 2, The Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman 2 and Joker 2 came in a row all lost or will lose money.
So in the words of Monica Geller that's:

So it was Heath's Joker who kills him in 2.
A Captain Marvel 2 should have worked. It wasn’t an obvious standalone film like Joker.Well, a billion helps a studio question that.
But see also The Marvels.

Eh, The Marvels reportedly made Disney lose 237 million dollars, which if true it would instantly make it the biggest known box office bomb in the history of Hollywood by a comfortable margin. All that after a film that made 1.13 billion dollars. I wouldn't use the strikes or anything as an excuse for this abysmal performance really. The marvels happen around the time of the strike. I am sure it would still be a hit but it would have made more money if there was more marketing but because of the strike there was less of it.
I am not sure what marketing would have made The Marvels do better. It came out after Ant-Man 3 and Secret Invasion **** the bed and created the perception that the MCU is (to quote Deadpool) "at a bit of a low point". There was just no hype or excitement for it. I get the same vibe for Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts.
Sorry, but there's no functional way you can connect Joker Folie a Deux to other movies. Barry Keoghan is even younger than Robert Pattinson.
To me the ending to the movie was dumb. I get what they are going for but it also makes no sense.
It was never intended to connect to any other Batman movies.
How is it reasonable coming after a movie that did 1.1 billion dollars? Even if the budget was 50 million dollars like in the first film it would barely see some profit. It just seems like people wanted a new cinematic universe and Phillips stuck to his guns, again, and said 'no.'
I think the box office seems reasonable; it's just that they spent $200 million making the damn thing
