Judge Dredd Reboot!! - Part 1

Yeah, went into a theatre to see how big the crowd was last night. Totally empty. Dredd is just not a big draw over here.

I was surprised that my theater was actually quite full. When I went to see PWZ on opening weekend, there were, like, 8 other people in the theater. And that movie also flopped with only 4 million or something opening weekend.

This is a huge surprise, with all the positive buzz surrounding this film, I just don't see how this happened. $6 million??? c'mon....

It's such a damn shame. But I'm honestly not surprised. The marketing for it here was absolute crap. I didn't see a single TV spot for it. No one I knew had any idea it was coming out or that what it was about. Really sucks, as the movie itself is absolutely awesome.

Similar situation to Scott Pilgrim but Dredd is gonna do even worse than that.

And it gets over-saturated. Completely 'survival of the fittest' mode being turned on during these months.

^You got Hotel Transylvania then Frankenweenie the next weekend. Then it's like straight semi-blockbusters and horror movies all October until the winter movie season.

Looking at the BO figures today, it looks like the film will make the 50 million in 25 days (2 million per day) unless, word of mouth and us fans supporting the film, can make it reach the 50 million it needs in the bo quicker. I'm seeing it again soon, and maybe, just maybe, a third time; but that's a big maybe on a third, but a definitely on the second.

Now, we should look at the bright side; ignoring the 50 million goal, Dredd is now considered a cult hit, thus making a continution via a tv series as also reported along with the 2nd and 3rd movies maybe a better possibility, though Urban as Dredd for a tv show is doubtful in my mind. But then again...

Dredd is a cult hit, which unlike movies like Ghost Rider, fans are behind it 100%. It's not over yet, see the movie again and spread the word! But understand; cult hits have a legacy too, that includes a franchise from that one movie. Will Dredd be that? Time will tell, but it still depends on us and everyone else.

V for Vendetta had name recognition from the Wachowski Brothers, and to a lesser extent, Natalie Portman.

I think having a more recognizable young actress to play Judge Anderson might have helped. The character didn't require an Oscar caliber actress, and Thirlby honestly didn't wow me with her performance.

I'll take a box office failure over losing Thirlby. I loved her in this. She sold me in a way not many actresses her age or in her demo could.

Her hotness was definitely a factor but she was good in the role as well. Wouldn't have minded a few more fantasy scenes lol

Don't worry about the BO numbers. This film will be a cult classic, just like the AD 2000 books were cult classics. This is the definitive Judge Dredd live action series. This will get a sequel, I just hope they can keep Urban n the role.

Crying shame that this movie is going to flop and I've seen some absolute DROSS this year that has made a ton of money.

If actors like Thomas Jane, Dominic West, and James Purefoy can do both film and tv work, I don't see why Urban can't.

They should have realized that to 99% of the general movie going public "judge dread" only equals a failed 90's Sylvester stallone movie.

Most people do not not even realize the character is based on a comic since the comic itself is pretty underground. So this film probably looked like the equivalent of a water world remake to a lot of people.

not only that, but no one knows about this film. no one i know has any idea what this film is about or when it came out.

When explaining to my friends why they should go see "Dredd", I say this.

1. Imagine "Assault on Precinct 13", except as a 2 mile high apartment building.
2. Next, instead of a scared policeman, imagine Snake Plissken is stuck in the building with a magic gun.

I thought this was already released in the UK about a month ago, yet I can't find any numbers for it.
