This makes sense considering his physical body is unrecognizeable and no need to pay him to dress up in a costume when we won't see one inch of his body. Hell even his voice should sound different. Kind of like the David Prowse James Earl Jones deal w/Vader.

Speaking of superhero sequels, ‘Paratrooper’ tells us that “George of the Jungle 2” star Christopher Showerman may have met with Twentieth Century Fox about a possible role in “The Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer”.

Rumour has it that the actor, soon to be seen in Lionsgate’s “Sea of Fear”, is reading for the role of ‘Victor Von Doom’, suggesting that although Julian McMahon may be returning to voice the character – who will now be totally masked behind a mask – it may be someone else filling the suit. (Makes sense I guess – why would McMahon want to return if his face isn’t going to be seen?)

Showerman is a bit of a go-to man for superhero roles at the moment. He was one of the “Superman” contenders there for a while, and rumour has it that he was one of the muscled young lads that John Woo was looking at for his new live-action “He-Man”. He’s definitely on the rise, so will only be time before he lassos up one of these big parts.

Makes sense, yes. Now if they'll only have him use a deeper tone when he does the voice work.

Actually I posted that they should do this after I saw FF. He could do the voiceovers from home as most voice over actors do. It's not like we're gonna even see his lips moving.

It doesn't make any sense to me. Julian has the same physique as that actor.

Yeah, this makes sense.

I don't see any reason for this either.

Isn't this just speculation at this point?

The only thing which might go to support it is that there is a significant overlap in the shooting schedules of Nip/Tuck and FF2.

Yes, I've heard he is working a LOT of hours filming that show. And it would cost Fox less to hire an unknown to do the hours of shooting Doom physically and then have Julian come in and do the lines.

Sad thing is his voice as Doom was one of the most irritating things about the first film for me. The biggest reason was they didn't give him an Eastern European accent.

I cannot believe that Tim Story would have made such a big deal of Julian being back for the sequel if it was only going to be voiceovers. I got the impression that he would be shown, that he wouldn't be in the armour the whole time. Perhaps that's what it is - that Julian will do the out of armour bits and Showerman would be in the armour, when required, with Julian doing the lines. He worked like that on Charmed. He was Cole Turner, who was also the demon Belthazor and, when he turned into Belthazor the actor under the (4 hours! of) make-up was actually Michael Bailey Smith (who I know also has a connection with the F4).

Is there really any need to have Julian physcially under the Dr. Doom Armor. Would it made it more effective if James Earl Jones was in the Vader armor? Nope. It's just not neccessary at all.

And Retro c'mon they might be the same height but they have nowhere's near the same build.

I hope this isn't true, I don't see any point in this as well.

What does it matter. Julian would be under the armor, you wouldn't see an inch of his skin let alone his real face. It makes perfect sense. In fact I see no need in even having him for voiceovers except for the sole reason to show the audience the same actor is involved in the character. Surely after being practically melted and turned completely to metal at the end of the film would have changed his voice a bit. Doe McMahon's physical skills as an actor demand it? They're trying to give the fans they doom they want and the events at the end of FF will explain any changes. They want a bigger more formidible looking person behind the Armor.

The trasnformation chamber event with The Thing will be giving him his famous Brow in the next film. Bet on it. They'll just explain after he went back in at the end fo the first film it started growing or something. It'll be there hence the new suit designer.

Get a better actor for the sequel. No one will even notice. McMahon's performance was forgettable to say the least.

I have to concur with Retro.

Both men are goliaths, there is no reason to cast a body double for this role. And I don't really agree with your James Earl Jones analogy AD because James' voice was distinctive and necessary for Vader--David Prouse's voice was not.

Do you honestly believe that Julian's voice is worth paying $1-2 million for alone? There's nothing distinctive about his pipes. Hell, if anything, they should let Julian don the armor and get someone else to do the voiceover for him.

That's exactly what i was thinking, the irony of keeping his voice and not his body boggles the mind since his voice was the weakest part of his performance IMO

So you've seen him without his shirt on? I've seen him practicly naked on Nip/Tuck, he's built.

That makes a lot more sense. I can´t even remember what Julian sounds like, probably because I´ve surpressed everything about Doom from the first movie.

Well... there's always the possibility that he'll play a Doombot interacting with Doom.

Though it's not needed, I guess it doesn't bother me. I'm a fan of Julian's ever since the first season of Nip/tuck. He is very built, I agree with retro, but maybe an overlap in schedules caused this. For all we know it could be a no hold rumor.
