Julian McMahon just doing the voice over.

So you've seen him without his shirt on? I've seen him practicly naked on Nip/Tuck, he's built.

Julian is nowheres near the build of that other guy. Not even close. I never said Julian wasn't fit he's just nothing close to that guy. Not even a little bit.

He's just fit nothing more.

Here's another pic of Showerman who got a far superior build:

Please there's no argument. McMahon isn't out of shape but he's not near the build of Showerman and the reason you won't find a pic that shows McMahon in that kind of shape...is because there isn't one.

Well, for one thing it might save them time if Showerman can fill in on some of the action based sequences but then why get him when, with his accompanying SAG fees? Plus if it involves stunts, that's a different union (unless he's a member of both). And look at Showerman. He looks like the kind of guy who should be playing George of the Jungle. :D At least with Julian you have a better sense of someone who can be both charming and sinister at the same, one of Doom's hallmarks.

BTW AD, you're behind in posting this... this was posted in the Doom thread so there was really no need to start a new one. http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=235693&page=9

And I am getting a bit annoyed at those who want a deeper voice for Doom.... been there, done that with Darth Vader. We don't need to have it appear that we are stealing from Star Wars when it was the other way around.

Or as Shakespeare says about those with deceptively gentlemanly ways as voiced by the Duke of Gloucester who would later become Shakespeare's penultimate villain, Richard III

"I can smile and murder while I smile....."

Henry VI part 3

I'm not after a deeper voice just a more menacing and powerful one and less of a sleazy one

AD, that pic you posted is quite old. Must be over 10 years ago.
He's piled on the muscle since then which i think is quite clear in the pic i posted earlier.

I still stand by point that it makes no sense to get Julian a body double. Why pay for his voice alone? As others have said before its not like he's got such a memorable voice.Might as well get a voice actor to do that as well.

This makes sense....Julian is tied up with Nip/Tuck, so it would be easier for him to do.

Compare Hugo Weaving's voice in V for Vendetta to Julian McMahon's in FF. One is oscar worthy and the other is a mockery of the source material.

There physiques are still far from close to the same. Showerman is chiseled and is a male model. He's a body builder as well. McMahon surely works out and he shaved his body hair but I wouldn't call him a goliath. I'm not saying this is a good choice but I'm also not opposed to it.

Julian's voice was to clean and crisp. It should have been slowly changing throughout the film like in the movie The Fly when the computer no longer recognized Brundle's voice.

But it was the other way around.
I don't want Doom's character short-changed in any area, certainly not to stave off any plaguarism accusations.
Over the years, I've always "heard" Doom's voice as menace incarnate, arrogance with a hint of weariness. And in my head, that's a deep voice, certainly deeper than Julian's at the end of FF1.

Doom's final transformation in FF1 was a perfect opportunity to add something more to the voice, but for some reason that didn't happen. However if I remember correctly, some parts of the world got a version where his voice "electronifies" somewhat in those final scenes.
Seems like I read that about the European DVD as well...?

I'm not against Julian's voice at all, I just think he could bring something more to the performance - and with the physical workover Doom's body took at the end of FF1 (absorbing all that cosmic radiation, getting hot frozen there at the end) it would make perfect sense for his voice to have "suffered."
Ravaged but still dignified is what I'd like to hear.

What relevance does Julian's physique/build have anyway? He's not donning spandex--hence this is not a Brandon Routh/SR issue.

Masswise, he'll be buried in armor--therefore the only important element here is his height--and Julian is plenty sufficient in that category.

Yes, someone actually found a website that posted a clip of both versions and the second one, the mechanized one, was more effective. But it was still Julian's voice.

I'll go along with that. After all, through most of the movie we heard a pre-Doom version of Victor's voice. I can go along with them altering it when he is in the armor. Tweaking it a bit like with Peter Weller's Robo-Cop voice.

And as for those who say Julian's voice is sleazy, well you're prejudging based on the part he is most well known. That's what he's playing in Nip/Tuck .... morally challenged Christian is the kind of guy that will be in surgery all day and troll the bars all night for a quick pick up.

Caliph, I think Julian's physique is just fine too but for different reasons...:D .

He's not a body builder because he has spent a lot of time on various projects where acting skills are more important (I should live so long to see the day when Showerman gets nominated for anything in that area) but even when he was a male model, it was for stuff like Versace, Gucci etc. In fact he was the Givenchy man of the year back in the day. You don't bulk up for stuff like that.

And the height isn´t that big of a deal with the suit he is wearing, even if he was short, he could have massive lifts in the boots and it would never show.

AD that is a pic thats a very old picture of Julian, Iron Maiden did post a pic from just about a week ago on the set of Nip/Tuck and Julian does have this young man's physique.

^ I've seen that pic and he doesn't have close to the phsyique, mass, or definition of showerman. I'm not saying Showerman is better behind the suit but your comparing a body builder/model w/0% fat to an actor who has a decent build.

So please show me a pic of Julian McMahon where he looks anything near like this.

ph_md_showerman_01.jpg

Some of you are just arguing for the sake of arguing. McMahon's got a nice frame but that's about it.

This rumor is completely false, I've been told that Julian is "signed on and committed" to the role, and that he won't just be doing the voice.

Why does he have to, he's under armour...so the entire argument is ridiculous. Damn, can't believe I got into that one....:o

I personnly do not have a problem with it. If he is going to be behind a mask all the time. Noone knew who was in the Darth Vader outfit, but that didn't matter. David's movements, and James Earl Jones voice we're what made Darth Vade the evil person he was. You can put allmost anyone in the suit. The voice and mannerisms make the charactor. It may work better.
