Fair points. There are other sides of it too though, a lot families are together during that time of the year and it's the perfect multi-generational appeal, family movie. And it's not like there's no precedent for winter movies doing really well like LOTR and Harry Potter. I'd have to admit that overtaking the OW record is probably unlikely, but like DarthSkywalker said, if the film is great word of mouth it could really end up just dominating the box office for months.

Or even a better example since we're talking box office, Avatar.

If TFA somehow breaks this record, it is probably going to topple Avatar. Breaking the OW record in December would be insane. Much easier to do in the summer, and that isn't easy at all. JW had one of the great marketing campaigns of all time. It was literally everywhere. Using JP to hype it was brilliant as well.

I saw it.

Well, it was much better than the third installment. Hell, upon another viewing, JW might just overtake Lost World for me. There was a lot to like about it but the ending just fell apart. It felt too friendly. Why would the Raptor come save the T-Rex? That whole scene threw me off. And I get that Indominus Rex is a badass and a genetic freak but they still made the T-Rex appear too much like a *****. The scale to this film also didn't feel big. It felt too contained.

Outside those complaints, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, that scene with the Bronto got me a little down too. It served a great purpose though. It made one of the suits realize that these are indeed living animals, and they do feel pain. They're not just 'company property' or science experiments. I also liked the scene where the Raptors refused to execute Owen. They were loyal to the end because Owen treated them like partners, not slaves. I'd like to think the Raptors knew that.

See I didn't see it as the raptor saving the T Rex. That's what happened in the situation but that likely wasn't what it was thinking. It probably just wanted to continue attacking it considering it just killed it's entire pack.

not sure how you saw the T. rex as a *****, T. rex was chasing the flair (which means food in its mind) it met up with indominus and as I saw it, was fighting for dominance, not for a kill, she never bulrushes it or anything too viscous and then starts getting her as kicked and looses the fight.

Once the Rex got up she probably realized she probably had to kill it and started fighting more aggressively, bull rushing and body slamming indominus, she overpowered indominus on two different occasions even when the raptor was on the ground, and was essentially tossing her around. I actually didn't expect it. The one scene where she chsrged indominus, picked her up and picked her up by the neck and just toss her like 30 feet in one sweeping motion made me go "holy ****"

They could've eliminated annoying IronMan 3 Boy and his brother who wanted to poke a hole in everything without a y chromosome. Focus on other characters. I do know why they're in the movie. I understand you have to put the kids in to draw in the family audience........

You missed the fact the I-Rex was thrown into the electric fence/wall thing and broke it. Hence the mesosaur being able to jump out and grab it.

Will it break these opening weekend records? Who knows. But if you think Star Wars won't be as big as this, I think you immensely underestimate it.

I just think saturation will come into play with SW compared to this. Star Wars has had a whole trilogy of prequels last one being in 2005. The Jurassic series really only had two good films, and the most recent being in 95 before JW. The series needed a proper sequel to the film that was both critically and at the time financially successful. The way the marketing played to that over the original as opposed to the lesser accepted sequels was brilliant. The tone of the trailer's and most spots were very well done. We'll see if SW can top this, it's also a sequel to a more successful trilogy that people have been waiting for as opposed to the prequels which were overall "meh" quality. This result, 511$ billion, shocked me. But damn, i think with the way it marketed itself, respected the best film of the franchise, it definitely deserved it.

I haven't seen it yet, but I get the feeling people weren't expecting much, so as long as their nostalgia bone was tickled, they are good. This seemed to work on a global scale. It is impressive.

But unfortunately mine really wasn't. It was just Trevorrow harping on the nostalgia expecting you to fall for it. It's as if he just placed it in there for the sake of it.

"Hey look THE goggles! Remember these!!!!"

I just couldn't believe how sloppy this screenplay was. It had the right ideas, but they just talked about them and it didn't help cliches and on heavy handed characterization was the foundation for them.
