Jurassic World - Part 10

So would you say it's a lock to finish above Avengers' $623m domestic?
I don't really use the word lock too often but I'm very confident at the moment as it's beating on weekdays and holding just as well on weekends.

I think it will Word of Mouth is strong and i don't think Ted 2 will do much to stop it i am expecting another great weekend

Like Inside Out, even if Ted 2 does really well I don't think there's enough overlap to dent JW's path.

I also liked how the anklyosaurus was ready to put the beatdown on I-Rexy but mistakenly hit the gyrosphere by mistake.

Billion dollar grosser. Obligatory gif is obligatory.

It's almost $30m ahead through 10 days. It will pick up another $15-16m advantage from weekdays through Thursday. Probably will lose a few million to TA1 next weekend. So it will be over $40m ahead after 17 days. I think it's getting close to 650 as a lock.

July weekdays will help its legs plus it has Minions as a nice ace in the hole. Drive-in double features are counted equally for both movies. If Minions is huge and JP4 is attached to it at the drive-ins as I suspect, then the late legs will be aided even more.

I've never heard of this double-feature drive-in thing! Is this common in the US? Great way to piggyback off another potentially successful film. :woot::cool:

Yep. Terminator and Predator were popular too. So were Commando and Die Hard.
True, true.

I was really rooting for the lad. :csad: One of my favourite parts of the film nonetheless.

Yeah, it's fraudulent accounting but there is no way to properly handle it since the ticket is technically to see both movies (even though 99% of the people are there for the new movie lol).

It was, but has mostly died out. There are still a few drive-ins around though.

What we do now is theatre hopping, more or less. Unless you got one of those theatres where they have someone stationed at every door.

I've only ever seen that if the theater thinks the showing is going to be sold out.

Jurassic World is just killing it. I wonder if it can stay above 50mil next weekend, we will see.

Is there any record JW hasn't broken at this point? The only one I can think of is the coveted highest grossing film of all time, which is still comfortably held by Avatar.

Well I've finally seen it.

Yes, the characters and most of the story is just average-good.

But for me the Climax scene was so awesome that everything else pales in comparation. I hoe the incoming Godzilla has fight scenes half as good.

The interesting thing there is that Ted 2 is also from Universal. This is going to be a huge weekend for them.

Oh right. Scandalous! But every dollar counts. ;)

I remember seeing them on really old American films, and TV shows like Happy Days!

They have had an awesome few months over there. Party time at Universal HQ.

That got some good reactions from the first audience I watched this with. I could hear them sorta deflate when it was killed and there was a few audible damns" and "****s". It made me a bit sad when it got flipped on its back and was killed. She was a brave dino. That club tale would have shattered the I rexs ankle.

It's hard to tell who's going to win the year overall, Universal (Furious 7, Jurassic World) or Disney (Age of Ultron, Inside Out, Ant-Man, Star Wars, The Good Dinosaur). Universal has a pretty big head start.

What have Universal got later in the year?

What have Universal got later in the year?

They have a LOT more on their plate:

Minions - July 10*
Trainwreck - July 17
Straight Outta Compton - August 14*
The Visit - September 11
Everest - September 18*
Legend - October 2
Steve Jobs - October 9
Crimson Peak - October 16
Jem and the Holograms - October 23
By the Sea - November 13
Krampus - December 4
Sisters - December 18*

The asterisks are for ones that have a good chance of being hits.

I liked the movie, i felt they hit us with the theme too early - like when the ferry docked and the kid was looking out the window - i wanted more island and dino scenes to really build up the jurassic vibe. Instead we just had landscape.

I liked how they used a kid that was obviously (in my opinion) meant to represent a child on the autistic spectrum. Kids can relate to that and it sends out a positive vibe.

Some moments were cheesy, fixing the bike in front of the girl, a few good laughs, it was a family film and a good one at that. Just wished they had focused on other dino's a bit more.

I can see why it's making the money - the fight scene at the end was cool...

The movie is doing really well, but it's hard for me to be impressed. It seems every year something breaks some record.

1. higher priced tickets

2. wider releases

3. people more willing to see 3D and IMAX

At the time, the first Jurassic was the #1 grossing movie.

And can we get some Bryce Dallas Howard gifs?

Edit: To McClay, Thanks for that. Seems like they have a strong chance at no.1.
