Here's some of my thoughts.

I've spoiler tagged the whole thing just to be safe.

I liked the first two acts - especially the first with the two boys arriving at the island and seeing all the working attractions. When they first got off the boat and walked out onto the balcony to reveal the main area, with the Jurassic Park theme playing, I genuinely nearly cried. I didn't expect that, but I found it beautiful and nostalgic. And also to think this place isn't going to last.

The island and the new main park area is gorgeous. The imagery from the helicopter sequences are spot on, too.

I liked the build of up of i-Rex, both with the egg hatching sequence at the start, and viewing it from behind the glass before it escaped. Masrani was a great character, and I enjoyed him very much. It's a shame he didn't have more to do, but I understand their plot reasons for killing him. To let Hoskins take over and do his thing as the 'villain'.

The casting decisions were good, I think. Pratt and Dallas Howard worked well together. I like that they actually shot dinosaurs here this time, mainly during the Pterosaur escape. I think the trained raptor angle worked for the most part - however I thought aspects of this felt off at times. Like the T-Rex after Claire stands at the open gate, simply following the flare and not going for the kill, for example.

I didn't find the last act as crowd pleasing as other people, to be honest. I didn't like the CGI of the T-Rex as much as I would've hoped. However I thought the final fight was technically sound in the sense it didn't undersell the threat of the i-Rex. It was engineered to be stronger and bigger than a T-Rex afterall, and our girl was much older. I'm totally fine with the Mosasaurus taking it down. And I found the moment when Blue appears at the end perhaps a little too cheesy, and the glares it and Owen share before it runs off maybe too 'human' for my liking.

I still think The Lost World is the best sequel to the original - none of the set pieces here come close to the trailers dangling over the cliff, or the long grass raptor hunt in my opinion. And I think Spielberg crafted a superior atmosphere in his two entries.

But make no mistake, JW is a worthy entry in the franchise.

It has more going for it than against.
1. Jurassic Park
2. The Lost World
3. Jurassic World
4. Jurassic Park III

When comparing the raptor sequences of both movies (the lost world and Jurassic World) I felt like the raptor sequence in JW was superior to that of TLW, i just feel like the I-Rex become their alpha and having the camera's being on both the raptors and soldiers on the ground added to the suspense and intensity of the scene. I didn't think the I-Rex would get the raptors to turn, and that threw me off.

Having had my expectations lowered from various reviews, I kind of knew what to expect going into this film so I turned my brain off (tried to anyway) and just enjoyed the ride...and I came out pleasantly surprised!

Pros: Owen and the raptors could've easily been super cheesy and dull but it was actually pulled off very well. Pratt is really able to sell that he had been working with these raptors for a long time. Pratt, as a whole, did a really great job. Bryce Dallas Howard also acted well and she looked gorgeous throughout the movie. Her character, Claire, also had the best arc out of all the characters. Irrfan Khan as Masrani was always interesting to watch. It was nice to see a suit actually be likable for once! Jake Johnson, of course, was awesome. The effects were done well, though I definitely agree there's an over reliance on CG. I think watching it in 3D helped alleviate that. The iRex was pretty creepy at first! I really like how they kept it hidden for most of its appearances. I also felt a bit of that original JP wonder when the kids were exploring the grassy fields in the gyrosphere. I dug most of the attractions and features of the park. Most of the action was well done, especially the climax. I also liked most of the homages to the original movie.

Cons: Hoskins (D'Onofrio) was just BAD and I don't just mean as an antagonist. His character was just not very compelling and any time I saw him on screen I kept thinking that there has to be a scene where he gets killed or eaten. I can't remember the last time I hated a character so much...and not in a good way. Sometimes you want the antagonist to die because the direction and actor did a great job (see El Brujo from Ron Howard's 'The Missing') but this one definitely felt like poor execution and miscast. If they wanted to portray a *****ey ex-military type they should've gotten someone like Bill Paxton. At least he'd be an entertaining/likeable *****e. The kids weren't horrible, but they didn't add much to the movie either. In the original JP, the kids had real personality and they felt like KIDS! They were very fleshed out, well rounded, and ultimately likable. Gray and Zach both feel very 1 dimensional and 'meh'. I get that Zach serves as a commentary on modern teens, but they could have also made him, ya know...interesting. He had almost no personality and he seemed very disinterested being in Jurassic World until he was able to get away from the babysitter. Then all of the sudden he did a 180 and was interested in EVERYTHING. I also get that Gray was supposed to be this movie's Tim but nothing really worked with him. I also didn't buy his crying when he talked about their parents. Speaking of...they could've done without that whole subplot. It really took away from the film.

I guess the biggest problem I had with the movie are the characterizations, er lack there of. Even Pratt's character, Owen, felt typical and almost too perfect. When he runs from the iRex he looks like the T-1000 with perfect form. At the end, when he's shooting at the iRex he performs almost every move with calculative perfection as if he's 3 steps ahead of his actions. I get that he's ex-military, but even soldiers stumble and make mistakes in the heat of the moment. It felt a little too much like he knew exactly what to do in each situation despite the circumstances going awry. The character of Claire also felt too typical and 1 dimensional despite her character having the best arc. And really...[BLACKOUT]outrunning a T-Rex in high heels??[/BLACKOUT] That part just made me laugh out loud because it was unintentionally funny. I shouldn't be doing that during what's supposed to be the most epic scene of the movie.

Despite some of the characters being interesting at first, mainly Owen and Claire, none of them feel fully fleshed out and unfortunately they become less interesting as the movie progresses. There were also instances where I thought to myself "why the hell would they do that?" The 2 instances I can remember are when [BLACKOUT]Zack waited till the 3 count to jump off the cliff (you're about to die! JUST FRIGGIN' JUMP!) and when Claire got up on a platform to look for the kids during the pterodactyl raid, making her stand out like a sore thumb. It's like she actually wanted to get snatched up by a pterodactyl.[/BLACKOUT] There were a number of events that just felt forced. Particularly, [BLACKOUT]iRex's death. Why would the Mosasaurus lunge onto the land at that particular moment?[/BLACKOUT] The script could've used 1 or 2 more rewrites and the characterization of the humans definitely needed more attention. I also didn't really care for the design of the iRex. I liked it's characteristics and features, but it was not aesthetically pleasing to me and in some instances it actually looked kinda goofy/funny. Also, a lot of the product placement was just obvious and in your face. Jake Johnson's commentary about Pepsisaurus or whatever was spot on.

In the end, I had a lot of fun watching the movie but it has some major flaws that prevent it from elevating to the classic status of original film. It's definitely a MUCH better movie than part 3 but I'm hesitant to say that it's better than the Lost World simply because I haven't seen that movie in quite some time and I honestly enjoyed Lost World more so than most people express. I'm definitely glad I saw it in theaters for the thrills, but because of the poor characterization and some scripting blunders, I don't care to see it in theaters again. It's definitely a fun and entertaining film but there is a severe lack of characterization and several missteps in the script. Jurassic World gets a 7 out of 10 from me.

I just imagined the Mosasaur would be hungry. I mean that thing, given it's size, probably needs a lot of food. So he staches a dino ignorant enough to get within her reach.

Thats what I figured. I'm predicting that will be my ranking of the sequels as well.

Today's the day for you! :D I'm listening to the soundtrack right now and it sounds even better after you see the movie as the themes have memories attached.

Love your review Hunter. Can't wait till tomorrow!

Thanks man. :) Hope you enjoy it as well.

Don't get me wrong, the human characters in JP are more itneresting and just plain better than the ones in JW. That's just the way it is. I just think the gap between isn't as huge as some argue.

Also, you could make a case that the dinosaur characters JW are more interesting than the ones in the original, though. Specially the I-Rex compared to the Big One.

Can't argue with that, I was really impressed with the i-Rex, I thought they made it into a cool and fearsome threat and utilized the splicing for some neat scenes.

I also thought that Dr.Wu character change from Jurassic Park 1 to World was very shocking. It seemed like a cool dude but here is kinda egotistical. And he subplot doesn't really get resolved here. But I loved his meta line that seemed to directly address people or "fans" who bash the JP movies for not having the Dino's be 100% scientifically accurate.

Also I wish the movie used animatronics for the Dino's instead of making them so CGI dependent.
I was disappointed in the look of the original T Rex at the end of the movie. The CGI was very spotty. But I did like the look/exchange between the T- Rex and Raptor after the I- Rex is defeated. The T- Rex is all like, any other day I would kill you, be we cool for now lol.

That's another thing, his change COULD have maybe worked if they had explained it better.

They did make the i-Rex something to fear by being such an effective, unstoppable killing machine. But I also felt sympathy for it too, strangely. How Owen described it being in isolation its whole life, seeing everything for the first time. Not to mention the fact it was engineered to be a perfect predator. It's like The Ghost In The Darkness, where the lions go on a killing spree.

And by it attacking and killing the other dinosaurs it really hit our hearts. Dinosaurs usually attack other dinosaurs, but this was different. This was killing for the sake of killing. It made us appreciate and side with the 'normal' dinosaurs, which we all know and love. They were on the back foot, and they needed our support.

Does Omar Sy's character die?

No. He's attacked by one of the raptors (he's hiding in a tree trunk), but then the raptor hears the i-Rex roar and leaves him be. He's also in the second-to-last scene, guiding doctors to injured park patrons.

The park isn't completely destroyed, either. They could bring it back if people really wanted. The loose T-Rex and raptors could be accounted for, and the main street area repaired quite easily. Not that I forsee the park re-opening again being a plotline for another film. It's been done.

Masrani is a huge corporation, but given the huge amout of money they'll have to pay after this fiasco and the bad publicity the park is going to get I doubt anyone would be interested in re-opening it any time soon, specially when the dino fad was already getting weaker at the beginning of the movie.

That's another thing, his change COULD have maybe worked if they had explained it better.

It's a guy we saw for one scene that took place 22 years ago. Even if we had gotten to know him (and we didn't) people can change over time. Not to mention he was basically his older self when maintaining his façade.

I'm going to see the movie again, and it could possibly go up to a 8/10.

I'm also going to pick up Lego Jurassic World on PS4. I might not get around to playing it for a little while though with Arkham Knight coming out soon.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. Definitely brought back a bit of the wonder from the first film. There was a good mix of action and comic relief (which wasn't overly done). I thought most of the characters were pretty good. The kids weren't all that bad and cheesy.

It was pretty awesome how the T-Rex saved the day (with some help of course). Brought back memories from the first one.

I actually liked Claire's character. She had some big heroic and bad ass moments releasing the T-Rex and saving Owen from the pterodactyl. She was bit cold and unlikable in the beginning but redeemed herself nicely.

The thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if despite all this they do it again. I mean for cry night loud how many times since the first film have humans gone to Isla Nublar island.

Let's take a realistic point of view a tragedy like 911 or boston bombing, and even the virus that hit Disneyland. Hasn't stop tourist attraction,

I say that I wouldn't be surprised if Humans decide to re-open Jurassic World again or create an even bigger Dino exhibit , game hunting, wild life preservation etc...

In the first film, the park didn't work due to bad planning, in this film it does show that you can control these animals, as long as you don't try to make them "bigger and smarter", as that's truly setting yourself up for problems.

I didn't find Dr.Wu that egotistical, he simply did what Hammond's successor asked, and he apparently had warned them it might be dangerous. The corporation was what asked for such a dinossaur to be made, Simon Masrani was the person who [BLACKOUT] didn't allow people to be warned and to get out of the island in time, and who also financed that creation [/BLACKOUT]

Wu was just a scientist doing his job, with the I-Rex he was just doing what he always did when it comes to mixing DNA.

If they continue, they really need to move on from the "island" premise. It's so played out by this point.

Even though Masrani showed his greedy side by not warning people or being on the side of full evacuation, I really loved his spirit and desire for people to learn and be amazed by the park. He didn't care about money (until he realized his park is more than likely dead, which is understandable).

Dr. Wu was kind of like that in the book, though. He was just doing his job... if he wasn't, the I-Rex wouldn't have worked, genetically. He calmly explained why he had to splice genes of cuttlefish and other creatures to let it adapt to climate and growth. Masrani obviously didn't understand that terminology or exactly why I-Rex was a cold blooded killer.

I think they're going to the mainland. All but inevitable.

Now the thing is,
When do we see the next film, time-wise from JW? They have the embryos, but it'll be a while until we see fully grown dinos. Five years from JW is my guess.

82 million dollar Friday was not expecting that

That's crazy number! I knew that there were hypes for this movie, but judging from the reviews and the fact that we didn't have a JP movie for quite some time, I thought the OW will be good but not record-breaking. I'm sure they will fast-track the sequel right away.

This thing earned its money, and rightfully so. Even the slight comic relief was done well and not overused, Jake Johnson cracks me up.

The only thing I could think of during that triage scene at the end was that every one of those 20,000+ people were a about to call lawyers and sue the park.

I think the next film will no longer be about the islands but about people trying to stop inGen in more of a spy movie style. But, with dinosaurs.

Well they attempted a city in Lost World at San Diego, look how that turned out lol T-Rex loose on the city
