I thought Howard had more of a character to play than Pratt did and I didn't expect that. Also I thought Howard's acting was good, it's the character that failed her. It's an annoying cliched character. Pratt is likable and looks great but he barely had a character in the film.

Just got back from seeing it. It was a "dumb" movie, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I quite enjoyed it. The first half of the film, outside a few scenes, was pretty rough, but once things got going, it was much better. I was pleased to see that a lot of the wooden dialogue shown in the trailers were replaced with better takes in the actual film. But even then, that only made poorly written dialogue just slightly better. 7/10 for me.

Some thoughts in spoiler tab below:

I'm pretty disappointed with the treatment of the T Rex. The battle was fun, but man, I think the Rex's appearance could have had much more of an impact.

For one, there were no "classic" or "hero" shots/moments for the Rex - nothing that will stick out as awesome moments for the dinosaur like in previous films. She is just suddenly "there", fights for a little bit then wanders off. Seeing the Rex return/appear for the first time should have been a crowd-cheering moment. Her treatment in the film was just far too casually for my tastes.

After waiting the whole film to see her, she doesn't even actually beat the iRex, in fact, she get's her ass completely handed to her. And then when the iRex is killed, THAT is the end of the movie and (as far as the characters are concerned), the end of the conflict. Sure, the iRex is dead, but now you have a pissed off T-Rex roaming around the park, yet everyone breathes a sigh of relief - champagne for every one.

I was actually surprised with the amount of humor - some of it was cheesy, but the stuff that landed made me laugh pretty loud. That being said, there were parts that I think were meant to be serious, but made me laugh the loudest (like the raptor getting hit with a rocket launcher after having a "sweet moment" with Pratt).

I was worried about how they were going to handle the raptors, but for the most part, I think they handled them fairly well. By the end, it was interesting to be rooting for their little pack.

I feel like E.T. is very "timeless", while with Jaws and Raiders i think those films were ahead of their times in a lot of places, but their age show more easily.

I also think E.T. offered more, with a sence of wonder and well crafted plot, i also think there's more to analyse when it comes to themes. I'm not trying to take away how good Raider and Jaws were though, all of these films are among the best cinema has to offer imao.

Spielberg really used to have a magic in his films that he hasn't had for a long time. Some say making Schindler's List really changed his worldview.

enjoyed the movie but at the same time I'm happy they are having a new director.

The single take in Tintin was pretty magical.

I know what you mean tho. Prestige Spielberg is really good, but I wish he'd floor everybody with a blockbuster again.

JURASSIC NARK
Just saw ‪#‎JurassicWorld‬ an hour ago and I'm still smiling about the big brawl-for-all at the end. The whole 3rd act is summer movie perfect.

To be fair to Spielberg he still makes above average films, he just gave so many classics that most of his recent films seem much weaker. But yeah, i wish he could pull off another major blockbuster now, though i gotta say that War Horse, Tintin and Lincoln were very ambitious.

My wife was shocked how much she cared for the dinos, and cried when they died. I was the same. I had a lump in my throat the whole movie. The return to the welcome center and the Jeeps was sublime. I think they were right to treat those things and the T-Rex as returning characters, rather than bringing back any more cast members. Wu is an exception. I also appreciated the slightly meta bit with the Jurassic Park t-shirt.

Chris Pratt. Man...talk about...man. That guy. He just owned the movie.

I have a few more critiques to issue and praises to sing, but I just want to bask in my enjoyment a little longer.

9/10

He still makes great movies. Catch Me If You Can, Munich, and Lincoln are all great to me for example.

But Jurassic Park was his last "Spielberg Movie" in the way people think about his older classics. He's tried since with The Lost World, and AI, and War of the Worlds, and Crystal Skull. The only one that was actually good (IMO) though is Minority Report. And even that is quite bleak and noirish when compared to his more optimistic and wondrous earlier blockbuster efforts from previous decades.

I feel like this film may have saved the summer blockbusters along with mad max and seeing what is still to come I may be right.

I really liked how this movie gave the middle finger to
JP3, having the T-Rex decimate the Spinosaurus skeleton.

Jurassic Park is a blockbuster masterpiece, one of my all time favorites, and Spielberg's finest film. I can't sing it's praise enough.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is HIS masterpiece IMHO!

Schindler's List is a close second.

That's crazy number! I knew that there were hypes for this movie, but judging from the reviews and the fact that we didn't have a JP movie for quite some time, I thought the OW will be good but not record-breaking. I'm sure they will fast-track the sequel right away.
I think not having a JP movie in awhile certainly helped the gross. This was the same point many argued in what made Skyfall the billion dollar gross it is today, because there was a thirst and drought of Bond films after Quantum, longer than the usual time span between sequels due to MGM troubles.

"Saving Private Ryan" is Spielberg's bridge film for me. The one that captures the two different periods of his career. It is also arguably his best effort.

I like the director Spielberg has become, but I can't imagine him pulling off what Scorsese did with "The Wolf of Wall Street". He can't go back in time and recapture his younger self so completely, and I don't think he really wants to.

See I never saw it that way.
Rexy was down from the blows from the Irex, but it wasn't long at all (5 seconds at the most.)after Blue jumped in and attacked, Rexy was up and dominating the fight again. I kind of see it like in a professional fight where the fighter gets dominated, then gets their second wind, rises up and is victorious. I think even if Blue had not joined the fight, Rexy would have jumped up and continued the fight. I don't think Blue's attacks did hardly anything to the Irex honestly.

One thing I do wish they would have did was use the longer, louder and more fierce roar that was used in JP during the first Trex attack . It was also used during the end of JP after Rexy defeated the two Raptors.

Yeah his attitude/priorities have changed. He still makes really good films, but they're different KINDS of films, which is fine. The two most "Classic Spielberg" like directors today are probably JJ Abrams and Joe Johnston.

I agree with him. That final battle was excellent.

Anyways, I didn't know what to expect after reading some of the reviews, but I loved it. The first half was a bit slow, but it began to pick up and I was completely sold by the end. Ultimately, I'm just happy that it was miles better than Lost World and JP3. I don't think I could've handled another disappointment

Saw it this afternoon. As many have said, not as good as the first Jurassic Park movie (and I didn't go into it expecting or even hoping that it would be).

If I had to rank them films I would probably go:

1. Jurassic Park
2. The Lost World (this is mostly due to my love of Goldblum)
3. (a very very close third) Jurassic World
4. Jurassic Park 3

With JW, I feel like the editing could have been better, the way it jumped around was kind of annoying/I think it could have flowed a bit better.

Pratt was awesome. The raptors were awesome ([blackout]though I was bummed that only one (Blue) seemed to survive - this film broke the 'don't kill the dog' trope multiple times, pretty much anytime an herbivore was killed and even with the Raptors at the end[/blackout])

BDH - I didn't really like her character - she was like every cliche in the book and it was grating. I just felt no emotional connection to her character

The kids - eh, my sister commented after it was over that the kids felt like total Spielberg-ian tropes ala Brand and Mikey from Goonies (little brother geeky-know it all. Older brother, can't be bothered/chasing girls)

I'd probably give this a 7.5/10. The action was fine and enjoyable and I loved all the dinosaurs. If some of the human characters had been a bit better written and things flowed a bit better I probably would have given it higher.

Side note: I personally would NOT take little kids to this (I was surprised at how many 6 or under there were in the audience) - with all the human deaths that happen and the movie not being terribly shy about using blood spatter...dang. PG-13 for definite reasons. Not to mention, the young girl behind me felt the need to keep a running commentary going :whatever:

I really want someone to take the climaxe's fight scene and plug in audio clips from WWE: like the Undertaker's gong going off when Rexie comes out, some kind of tag team references once the tag-team starts, and plenty of Jim Ross's "Oh my Gawd!"-style exclamations.

This would be AWESOME! Now someone has to do this.

So the Claire character went through all that mayhem while wearing heels? What the facepalm is that all about!?!?
