Just a litle of the religious intolerance in my backyard

EX mother @#$%ing ACTLY.

"Because those people aren't at war with America and our way of life", and "Islam is a political ideology as much as it is a religion, a political ideology that goes against what we stand for as Americans" are the responses that I have heard from the conservatives that buy into that stuff.

This nation isn't one to restrict religions if they are NON-VIOLENT. If you want to be restricted, you could glady re-locate yourself to a different country. Did Independence Day just sweep past people? Swiftly above their heads? Jeese.. :/

Critics claim that Islam preaches violence against non-believers.

"Infidel" essentially means "non-believer", and anyone who is familiar with the Q'uran will know what it says about infidels. To be short, it doesn't exactly say to give them flowers and chocolate.

which is far from the truth.

And I don't claim that it is the truth.

I am far from a scholar on Islam, in fact, I have only begun doing any research into the religion within the past couple weeks since I have heard about this incident, and I have read some of the passages from the Qur'an in question (I.E.: "Slay them where you find them") and have found that reading them in their entirety without chopping them to bits to manipulate the context, that no, they are not preaching violence against non-believers.

Did you say earlier in this thread that you are Muslim? I am interested in learning more, especially since I will be taking part in this rally this week. If you feel there are any significant passages that I should read to better understand this situation, please, PM me with some suggestions.

thats awesome

hmm, well I can suggest you some but i think its better if you ask a Imam. They can tell you more in depth.

It's not shocking but it's sometimes makes me sad/angry how ignorant people are about my religion. It's not shocking though because the Muslims that most white americans in the media see are darker skined and darker skin equals other/evil in the USA, regardless if some like to acknowlege their prejudices or not.

It's going to be so much better when this nation isn't a white majority anymore. And no I am not saying that all or even most white people are racists who are trying to lynch me. And no I'm not going to say some of my best friends and family are white because that is something a racist black or other ethicity person says to prove that they aren't racist.

It's funny how nobody seems to be afraid of all those white Christain zealots who murder abortion doctors and shoot up Holocust museums. I mean Christains have done plenty of f**ked up things in the name of their g-d for 1000's of years and thats swept under the rug for some reason. There are bad people in every religion but bigots in America won't acknowlege that because most of them rag heads are dark skined. Yee Haw!
First of all, it makes no sense to believe that anything will improve once whites are a minority in America, mostly because of the higher crime rates and lower academic success among blacks and Hispanics. Also, if whites wanted to oppress all non-whites, we could do it in the minority just as well as we could in the majority. Under the old Apartheid regime in South Africa, whites were the minority.

Secondly, all "white Christian zealots who murder abortion doctors and shoot up Holocaust museums" are punished under our laws, they're even (preferably, in my humble opinion) given the death penalty. And there's only been 1 Holocaust museum shooter, and only 8 abortion providers have been murdered in the 30+ years since abortion was legalized.

Thirdly, no, it's not because Muslims are dark skinned that has everyone upset. It's because they're trying to kill us.

Fi Amanillah.

"They", as in Muslims in general, are trying to kill us?

You really think a billion Muslims are out to kill Americans?

There are thousands of Muslim servicemen fighting for the US right now in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The fact that this even had to be pointed out is pretty sad. But as the last presidential election proved many people in this country somehow think American = christian...

I'm well aware of the fact there are thousands of Muslims in the U.S. military...and the danger that presence poses to the non-Muslim officers, e.g., Abdulhakim Muhammad, Nidal Malik Hasan.

Statistics which have more to do with institutionalized racism than anything else.

So the latest update - Lou Ann Zelenick, a candidate for congress in my distract, has accused the mosque of terrorist ties. The accusation specifically targets Mosaad Rawash, a board member who on the ICM website, is listed as just "member" with no specific position:

http://icmtn.org/Detailed/Board_Members_Information_2.shtml

The other tie that has been revealed is a picture on his MySpace that is identified as "MAS Summer Camp 2006", MAS allegedly being "Muslim American Society", which apparently is a pretty radical group (according to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_American_Society)

http://www.redcounty.com/steve-emer...l-agenda-icm-board-member-mosaad-rawash/41532

So I don't know how much of this is legit, and how much of this is grasping at straws. But the accusation is out there.

Why has nobody commented on this yet? I've heard and read this exact same thing in regards to 'infidel' in the qu'ran and muslim world. I'm not too sure exactly what to believe but it does make me wonder!

I commented about it in the thread about Israel. According to almost every religion, I'm an infidel, heathen, or enemy, simply because I lack a belief in their god-claims and will go to their "hell" after I die. Finding out another religion feels the same about non-believers is nothing new.

really? I mean, really? Those two statements you quoted are FACTS that have no need to be validated by "conservatives buying into them". Have you never heard of Hezbollah?

And "we" aren't killing any of "them"?
Last I checked, we aren't engaging in terrorist acts all across the globe, killing thousands of innocent people each year because they are infidels. We're fighting a war in hopes of stopping these actions. There's a huge difference and to try and say there isn't is just ignorant.

couldnt have said it better my self.

While I agree that the likely hood of so many muslim service men being sleepercells is unlikely, the fact of the matter is, there is no way of knowing. Sleeper cells are real, and a huge burden for the DOD in trying to locate and stop. To call someone "****ing ignorant" for stating a very real and legitimate possibility is not only uncalled for and an act of trolling, but, well, "****ing ignorant".

Maenalus insulted every one of the 5,000 Muslim servicemen who are fighting for the US right now in Iraq and Afghanistan by blanket calling them a menace to non-Muslims.

Calling that ignorant is not "trolling", it's calling it what it is.

Unless proven otherwise, our 5,000 Muslim servicemen deserve the same respect that we give every other serviceman putting his life on the line for us.

They aren't just killing infidels though, they're killing anyone who doesn't adhere to the strictest of Islamic laws. Last I heard the very large majority of people living in Afganistan and Iraq are Muslim and suicide bombers detonate themselves in markets and on buses, which has to kill non-infidels. These people shouldn't even be called Muslims, they should be called crazy f**ks, cause that's what they really are.

I find the whole thing about the mosque funny, these hicks didn't care about the 250 families practicing Islam before. Why do they care now because it's finally been brought to their attention, but they've probably been there for years without any terrorist acts going on.

^ That's a good point, the vast majority of victims of suicide bombers are MUSLIMS.

There were also Muslim victims of 9/11.

This is true, but we also need to be aware that there are different sects of muslims just as there are different sects of christians. Making incompatible claims about how to live in this world will lead to this sort of behavior.

exactly, the extremists are the few bad apples that made my religion look bad. Seriously we are basically any other religion with a few bad people that makes up look bad.

Whoops! You forgot that your statement is worthless without data. Your position has about as much value as me saying "I bet a ton of white guys quietly support terrorism! Not so "few" anymore, is it?" Think before you type.

Pick up a newspaper sometime and stop living in your cloud of political correctness. You might actually learn something every now and then. Polls have been taken over the years showing that anywhere from 20 to over 50 percent of muslims in various countries in the middle east support terrorism. Think of how many ppl that is. Are these the few bad apples Kane was talking about? I can't wait to hear your next argument about how muslims in that part of the world don't really hate the jews.

I love how you go from "polls show up to half of Muslims support terrorism" to "those Muslims hate Jews" without even the slightest attempt at connecting them. Bravo.
