I had read somewhere (probably BOF) that The Joker's Five-Way Revenger along with Batman #1 were being used as inspiration for the film. So, I decided to read the issue since I hadn't before. And, I arrived to several conclusions:

A) The Dark Knight starts exactly where BB ended. It will have Batman investigating The Joker's crime. Only to discover that these men were all partner's with Red Hood or Jack Napier (or whatever name they choose for him). That, of course, will lead Batman to Joker's final victim and the showdown--of course.

B) The Joker gets too crazy. . .even for his goons. So, they make a deal with new D.A. Harvey Dent and the police trap Joker. When Joker is send to jail he vows to seek revenge. Upon his escape he does just that.

C) The revenge story has nothing to do with the film and Nolan just got that cigar-explosion gag from the comic.

Sooo............ are you trying to slam the movie or not? It's kind of hard to tell.

What? I'm not even criticizing the movie. Just predicting the plot. Geez!

Yeah, I know, its right in front of you. lol. Well, anyway, lets get back on topic. So, have any of you read the comic? If so, what elements of the story do you think Nolan will include?

I have not read the comic - however I am an uber fan of Batman #1 and The Man Who Laughs and rank both above The Killing Joke.

Actually, I thought it was very clear that he wasn't. In fact, i'm having quite a bit of trouble coming up with how you could've possibly thought that.

Here is an description of the Jokers characteristics in "five way Revenge". Found it on a comic discussion board. The question was whether "The Laughing Fish/Sign of the Joker" or "Five Way Revenge" was the better or more important Joker story overall. The post is from May 04, so it was not TDK related at all:

"There is no doubting "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge" (1973) is notable for three reasons. Number one, it marked a return to form for the Joker. Under writer Denny O'Neil, this Joker was no longer encumbered by Wortham's stifling legacy (the original version of the Comics Code) or the stigma of the "Batman" tv program. He once again became the deadly menace portrayed in his original appearances, as evidenced by the re-introduction of the laugh-inducing Joker-venom. Secondly, the Joker regained his sense of humor, and actually became funny instead of annoying. This Joker was a far cry from the one in the 50s/60s, who was just a goofy, irritating freak (check out "The Great Clayface-Joker Feud"). He used style (the exploding cigar) and wit (the shark) and sly banter, instead of obnoxiousness. Finally, and most importantly, "Five-Way" established the groundwork for the entire Batman/Joker dichotomy that's become the core of the Bat-mythos: reason/rationality vs randomness/insanity. When the Joker clubs Batman into unconsciousness, the grinning gargoyle decides not to kill his nemesis; instead, the Joker pontificates about how any death for Batman must come solely from a battle of wits and madness--anything else would be cheap and pointless."

The think the plot will be Joker goes around ****ting on everything. Sidewalks, lawns, grocery stores what have you. And Batman works on a shark repellent.

I love KJ, but in many ways, so do I. The story does a great job at mixing a modernization of the Batman and Joker conflict and keeping in touch with the character´s roots as a masterful serial killer.

Can somebody give me download link for Joker's Five-Way Revenge?

I'm very happy with the fact that "The Joker's Five-Ways Revenge" is being mentioned as a reference material.

Sent a PM...

Thanx :)

If they're going to grab scenes right out of comic books I hope they have the scene where Joker takes over the newscast, after killing the reporter, and sends his message to the city. Stuff from The Killing Joke would best be saved for another sequel.

The Man Who Laughs would be 10 times better to take a lot of elements from.
