How this fun monster flick flopped at the box office and that p.o.s silent hill hit 1 I will never know...

It hit the UK a week ago and I just saw it.

Brilliant. My favourite horror film since Dawn 04. Gunn is the guy Eli Roth wishes he was. Funny and horrific in equal measure, it is a hell of a lot of fun. A great and game cast, especially Fillion, the leading lady and her husband. You feel for him as he turns into a monster yet who still loves his wife, and her since she didn't marry him purely out of being a gold digger. It's a good relationship even as it disintegrates there is some sort of bond.

On another board a long time ago I posted a speculative post on the Thing's origin, and speculated that the Thing was actually a living virus which took over planets by absortion. And that's what this basically is, and I was at one point thinking of making a zombie movie where the zombies are caused by parasites. this is the second horror idea I have had that's been made into a movie (other being Skinwalkers), so that is disheartening, but at the same time at least it makes me sure I have decent ideas now and again. Im not *****ing though especially when it come out this good, its just one of those things I know others here can understand. Just got to sit down and write the full script in future

Also two AWESOME horror references I caught: a shop called R J MACREADY, and a score lifted from Predator as they go hunt the creature in the forrest! I loved that.

I smell a sequel, too hopefully....he had sex with her shortly after becoming infected, and the origin made clear that he can implant embros by making his victims pregnant. Hmm...

fantastic fun though.

there're already a few Slither threads floating around somewhere on this board.

sorry :( pumped up on enthusiasm after seeing it, I couldnt wait :(

it was an awesome movie. too bad no one saw it.

Isn't this supposed to be the best horror movie ever made by man, better than any horror movie ever was?

So why did it flop?

Because it had a ****ing ****ty cruddy trailer that turned almost everyone off, including me.

Well, that trailer said that this movie was better than all of Argento's, Romero's and Carpenter's works combined.

Did it lie?

It looks like a more hollywood version of Brain Dead/Dead Alive.

It was made by the people who popularized running zombies, so f**k this movie.

Yeah, The Joker, but did you see the trailer?

This movie is better than all the great horror classics in movie history!

Yeah, the trailer was stupid too. The only thing that makes me curious at all is Captain Mal Reynolds is in it, but I doubt even he can save this film.

My point being: don't say that your movie is the greatest horror movie of all time if the end results ends up being mediocre.

Are you insane? You need to read some actual reviews and get your lips off of Wes' boots. :(

If anything all the reviews I read praised it for being just a good old return to simple, fluffy, "Ew!", fun-for-fun's-sake 80's-style B-movie form with some goofiness and tons of fun gore.

I have never heard anyone say anything even similar to "It's the best horror film ever".
I did however hear a lot of people saying "It's the most FUN I've had at a horror movie in years".
big, Big difference.

Also,(and this is a logical mistake made by many youngsters here, sadly)....I'll try to enlighten you.

uh.....financial success of a movie does not necessarily mean it was good art and it works both ways.
I'll remind you that Citizen Kane was a flop.

It's scientific fact that 89% of the population is comprised of morons with awful taste and that our very society is founded on stupidity, superstition and irrationality.

I'm much more surprised when a financially successful film is actually good.

his point was that the trailer was saying it was better than all these horror classics, then at best delivered a b-movie that will likely be forgotten in 2 months

Not the trailer I saw.
Well yeah, if a trailer actually said that it was "better" than the classics, I can only hope that it was a joke, like when housewives say that chocolate is better than sex.

I've read many interviews with the writer and director and a few with the actors and there's no way any of them thought it was "the best horror film ever made", no way in hell.

But my point about how flop doesn't necessarily = bad movie still stands.

Also I wanted to add Joker, AMEN to your earlier post.
Running Zombies are the worst.
They'd be more dangerous in real life, but they're nowhere near as creepy.

Wow no wonder people assume audiences are stupid...

did NO ONE realise that the statement wasn't meant to be serious? It's something called 'tongue in cheek humour'. It wasn't meant to be taken serious, but that's what happens when you over estimate the audience intelligence I guess.

And to the guy who said that it deserved to flop because the people introduced running zombies, you're a tard. No offense. But not only are running zombies more dangerous, that's just one of the dumbest reasons to hate a movie I have ever heard.

Just as I suspected.

from my point of view. it looks decent but it seems more of a dvd flim than one i'd go to the cinema for

it's flop, more proof that most people suck.

To be fair I had no clue this movie was coming out till it was already out and I was hearing buzz about it because it was bombing. It had a terrible marketing strategy and plus comedy horror seems to be a pretty niche market.

You should see it, it was a bunch of fun.

I'd probably dig it, I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead series and I like horror comedy. But I'll have to wait till DVD I'm afraid because I'm seeing Mi3 and then that flight 93 looks interesting. SLither simply fell through the cracks but thank god for DVD.

Maybe it was an ironic comment, considering it looks like it's going back to basics with horror instead of trying SO hard to make a serious drama with a really crappy story.

Heck, Horror is about cheesiness but not in the "Oh my god why!!?!?!"

it's more "Why did they do that?? I could see it coming but that's what makes this great"

That's what makes Peter Jackson's Braindead so great. I can barely watch it anymore because it's just GROSS and I mean I love gross. I really wanna see it because it looks like it will be funny but disgusting.

All the best horror films I have seen have NEVER taken themselves seriously. ;)

Think about that one.

Personally, I didn't see Slither for two reasons.

One; I disliked the trailer.

Two; it was made by the people that brought us Dawn of the Dead 04. Ugh.

I was creeped out by the trailer, which made me want to see it,but I haven't. I will at some point.
