They're not rejecting the character. They're rejecting the quality. Pretty much everyone was ready to embrace Superman once again with MOS. They blew a great opportunity for themselves and the character.

Wrong. Those opening weekend numbers don't lie. There was massive interest in a rejuvenated Supes.

Eh, just feel like Superman ain't going to be a billion dollar character, even with the right ''team''..Too much luggage on the character.

Summed it up perfectly. There is interest in the character among the general audience. Problem is, the people in charge of this character overthink things, which leads to the problems Supes has had in recent years.

did someone say it would make a billion if it was viewed better?

probably 800 imo

Sure thing, bud.

Frankly, you're delusional if you think it's a rejection of the character of Superman. If it is, then why did Justice League, which included Wonder Woman and Batman, fail at the box office? Why did Wonder Woman, who's basically a female Superman, succeed wildly on her own? Why do characters very similar to Superman (Like Captain America) succeed in the MCU?

It isn't the character, but the terrible movies he's in. People certainly aren't rejecting Batman, who's been wildly popular for decades, and yet the last two movies with him have been losers. And we can justifiably say that Justice League is more of a Batman movie than a Superman movie, given that Batman was all over the promotional material, trailers, etc., while Superman was kept a secret until almost the last minute, and yet Justice League is the biggest flop of the DCEU. Does that mean that people are rejecting Batman? Nope. Just the movies he's been in.

The problem is the quality, not the character.

Nothing a little rep rejuvenation can't fix. All it takes is one great movie to get the hype back up for a sequel.

I think pretty much everyone assume 700-800 mill was a given, it was what could it possible do beyond that in terms of having legs throughout the holiday season.

and those man of steel trailers were damn near perfect imo

the teaser during dark knight rises :hmr:

Yep. That's like saying that Batman would never reach those heights after the awful taste that Batman Forever and Batman & Robin left in the mouths of the movie going public. But then Batman Begins came out, rejuvenating the character, and Batman came back with two back-to-back films making over $1 billion each. Hell, people were saying that about the character in the late 80's, that the Adam West Batman permanently tarnished the character in the minds of the general audience, and yet 1989's Batman became the highest grossing film of all time. All it takes is one great movie to turn a characters fortunes around.

Yup, and Superman has been in perpetually terrible or mediocre films since 1983. Of course he isn't doing crazy numbers at the Box Office. The sad thing is, he could.

Yeah, great films change things.

That third MoS trailer might still be the best I've seen for any superhero movie.

He will. Hand the character over to Matthew Vaughn, or any film-maker who knows how to tell a story and has passion for the character, and Superman will be back.

So where would you go from here? A complete reboot or who would you bring in to direct?

I'm not saying a great film can't be made, but not enough for a billion, which is fine. Too much luggage for a bill. :oldrazz:

Now its to the point where no one even doubts the characters appeal anymore, even after the woeful Batfleck era.

MOS days many thought it would

Based on it's domestic and international opening numbers MOS would've easily made 800 mill + but thanks to our favorite director Zack Snyder the film's divisive quality sank it like a rock just like BvS could've easily made a billion instead of ending up making less than spidy's 2nd reboot.

My response was to Superchan, who likes to use language as being edgy. I simply dismissed it. I just don't bother quoting him anymore.

Oh come on baldie, was it the hair comments? Like I said before spike, the 'ignore' button is your friend.

Nah, Narcissus...I'm not about this whole dynamic where you take lame shots at me, and then every once in a while, you want to have a civil conversation.

Yeah, great films change things surprisingly quickly.
